I played GR two nights ago and it was working fine. i tried playing it yesterday and when i place the cd into the drive and click play on the menu, it kinda starts but then nothing happens, i have left it for as much as 20 minutes and nothing happens. when i hit ctrl+alt+del i can see ghostrecon.exe in the Processes tab. i tried all three cd's and it does the same thing.

i did a fresh install and cleaned the registry using jv16 powertools (reg cleaner). the installation (game & patch) went smoothly, but the same issue happened, no matter which cd i used, the game would not run.

i'm not running any burned cd's or any stupid stuff like that. i use a cd-rw to install the game and play the game since last year and have had no difficulties whatsoever. other cd-roms work as well so i don't think its the cd-rw. i don't know what else it could be, i have done fresh uninstalls and installs before and this has got me confused. :(

i'm already feeling the symptoms of GR withrawal, need GR STAT :D

Are you clicking play when the CD autoruns, or are you using the .exe on your programs menu, or a shortcut?

Try going right into the GR directory on your HDD and clicking on the ghostrecon.exe there. If it works, then you know you have a corrupt shortcut, and you need to delete the old one and make a new one. If you are clicking when the cd auto runs, and it's not working, but it works from the GR directory, then most likely is a scratched cd, or your cd drive is going kaput.

Trying the .exe right from the GR directory should tell ya where your problem lies.

If it doesnt work from the GR directory, then something got corrupt, and you might want to try a reinstall of the game.

i have tried both the .exe and the autoplay from the cd. it works sometimes and sometimes it does not  i tried installing Rogue Spear and Urban Ops and they both work. maybe its the stupid pc. i checked all my cd's and they are not scratched, well the IT has a few hairline scratches.

Thanks

yeah i was using the IT cd, but before, the GR and DS cd works even when i had installed IT. none of the cd's work when i want to start the game, although the installation is flawless (i check the programs folder and see the ghost recon folder with mp1 and mp2 installed.

when i put the cd in my drive, the splash screen comes up and i select, play island thunder, or ds or gr (depending on which cd i use). it looks like its loading up but i never get to the main menu in the game, the desktop stays the same.

i will try another install again later on today. i'm just confused on whether its the cd-rw drive or the cd-roms. like i had mentioned, the installation for gr, ds, and it goes smoothly with no problems. and other cd-roms work as well. but when i want to play the gr, i click on the shortcut on the desktop but it does not launch the game, i tried the .exe and that also does not work.

yeah the hp only came with a cd-rom/rw combo drive. its really annoying. i have never had probs until this week. i've been playing gr since last year and have done numerous installs and uninstalls on my pc and have never had probs. i'll see if getting a cd-rom drive fixes anything. i have run out of options at the moment :wall::stupid:

thanks for all the help :) .

Problems with the SafeDisk copyright protection may be rearing it's ugly head I am afraid.

Why now?? Why me??? :D

Thanks for all the help :D I'm getting one this weekend since you need a regular cd-rom drive to install new games such as Splinter Cell and RvS.

I'll try one last install, maybe it will work

If I could answer that question I would. Hardware does what it needs. I bought a DVD-ROM to watch a video DVD from 3 Doors Down that came with a CD I got. I had to revert back to older drivers for my vid card in order to watch it due to SafeDisk protection. :sheep:
