EricJ 0
I remember the other discussion about it, and it got me thinking on how to achieve a see through effect, well I got this: Back view Front View I own an Aimpoint Comp M/ML personally, and used it as a basis to figure out how it would look. Generally, those scopes are see through at the distance the screenie was taken, so I got it spot on, and as for distance, it shows the effect that is normally seen. Of course, the dot is the problem, if someone can show me how to do that bit, then I'll add it. Here's the max model shots Right now that's the base texture, just so I can get the effect I wanted. Though if someone has a better texture, I'd appreciate it, and maybe make it a public mod (max only) for "upgrade" style stuff. And I have to work on the rear tube (and delete a whole lot of polys too) so it's more closer to the real thing, but I like it so far anyways. But who knows..... Ruin 17
Looks incredible, I'm assuming you used Alpha Channels in the RSB?
Marcinko 1
I'm not sure that thats a trick, theres a tutorial around here somewhere that tells one to make a alpha layer when makin scope textures, anyway, it looks good man.
Argyll 1
But it does look sweet though!!

EricJ 0
Looks incredible, I'm assuming you used Alpha Channels in the RSB? Nah, used the same file as for the Trijicon reflex site ("iv_truckwindow.rsb"), just added a red layer for the front lens. But here's the latest: I've read the same tutorial, but this model is infinitely a little more complex than the one is presented. Also you have to make sure that all the vertices match up or it won't export properly. First I thought when 3DS crashed, that it was polycount, but it turned out that it was the vertices. So I just made the model and saved it. Then exported it into it's own file just to make sure it did it properly. Edited April 30, 2003 by EricJ
EricJ 0
Well, I figured out how to achieve the dot effect. What you have to do on the RGB layer is make your dot (or triangle, such as for the Trijicon), then use the eraser tool on the Red, Green, and Blue layers around the dot (as per this example), which produces a solid dot such as this: On the real system, the dot isn't seen on the front lens, as the dot is projected just forward of the rear lens, and I would assume that the coloring is just that, so it's not seen (least during the daytime, and the numerous photos, but in darker light it can be seen at that distance, but what the hell, I can only do so much. I had to redo the rear body, and design some thumbscrew texture, but it's looking good now. Edited May 1, 2003 by EricJ
EricJ 0
And here's it again with the final texture: I'll probably retexture the mount itself, but if there's anything to add...
swartsz 7
very nice, EricJ
Soryu 0
That is one of the best scopes I've seen yet. Good work out there. @ EricJ: You say you have an actual Aimpoint? Did you take good pix of it and use it as the texture? i'd like to ask how to get the scope for a MOD, or better yet what Mod's will there be with your scope? Soryu... EricJ 0
@Soryu: Not really, all I did was draw it on paper then did the final model through constant trial and error (I've spent some time on just this one).... As for the texture itself, I had to search online, as it's still fairly new (haven't used it yet unfortunately) so it would just be black, and kinda difficult to see. I'll post a new screenie that has a modified mount so you can see that, as well as the tightening screws for it. As for the Mod itself.... I'm currently just putting up the max file (3.1) and let people add it if they wish (or remodel it). I'll probably make some weapon and put it up, don't know when though. EricJ 0
Well, I've messed with it enough: http://562.50megs.com/GR/AimpointNewExport.zip As stated in the Readme, if someone happens to make a better texture, feel free to let me know, or just let me know that you're using it for a future public mod. Also, it was saved in 3DSMAX 3.
Soryu 0
@EricJ - Thnx for the Export, when I make my weapon for my MOD I'll use that one. When I work on my first Weapon I'm hoping to use a real C7 textures. I have an MP friend on Base where I'm posted and I want to use very nice textures, and with my digital camera I could get some nice ones. I've seen BjB's C7 weapon, and although it's very nice, I think the texture could be more. Not to mention there are some things that I don't like about it. Hmmm... now that I think about it, the Coyote they made is also missing somethings, I showed my friends the screenies and they looked at it closely. They tell me that it's very good, but they forgot to put somethings on, and othes things are not in the right place. These guys used to drive the thing for a living, so they would really know. Ummm... I'm just babbling now... but again thnx for the export file. Soryu...
EricJ 0
No problem. Though I've honestly haven't considered any M4s since the whole community has done one version or another, but I may change the mind. Though I've considered doing one with a PVS-14.
Argyll 1
Very nice Eric, though the poly count is a bit high, still not a prob for my P4 2gig and Gforce 4 440mx!!! I have an M4/203 combo running in game @ 5500 polys and see no(see my website) difference to the quality at all!!
EricJ 0
Yeah, that's the only thing, the polys. I've so far put it on one weapon, and even with my laptop running 447 MB and 1.6 Ghz, I haven't noticed too much of a framerate hit. Only when I kill tanks does it become a problem. BTW, checked out your M4/M203 combo, and it looks pretty cool, as well as your Delta stuff (downloading right now).
