Job hunting SUCKS!

I hate looking for a job! I can't find anything that I couldn't have gotten just as easily without a degree (like waiter). I'm so sick of this. Everybody wants someone with experience. HOW THE ###### AM I SUPPOSED TO GET EXPERIENCE IF I CAN'T GET A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall::wall::wall::wall:

I really want to retire already. Unfortunately I'm not a multimillionaire.

Lol... I actually use what I learnt during my degree perhaps... up to five days a year. But I'd never have gotten this job had I not had the degree in the first place. Go figure.
Sounds about right.

@ calius: If I thought I had a chance in hell of getting away with it. . . But not with my luck. :D

What did you go to school for? As in what was your major? I switched my major from foreign affairs to accounting just because I knew how much easier it would be to find a job after school. I had a family so I needed to make sure they were taken care of. Luckily I had about 4 job offers after I graduated.

Good luck with the search. If you are having trouble findin anything you might be able to use a recruiting group such as robert half who will do the looking for you.

I majored in geology. Unfortunately every job I've found has wanted a master's degree AND experience. I have neither, and will never have a master's, since I'm done with school.

I switched from business to geology because of the accounting classes required for any business degree. God, I hated accounting. Double entry bookkeeping is evil.

Good luck with the search.

Polite applause.

Congrats on graduating, and best wishes on finding something in your field. Geology is a very specialized field, but I have to imagine that thinking outside of the box could find you a position that's not what you expected, but still relevant.

Assaying for an oil company? Heck, running a desk at a company that does assaying. Even something with civil engineering, doing surveying. It's not exactly using your degree to it's fullest, but it's a possible first step.

Best of luck!

Are you willing to move? I have a geologist friend in Ohio that is looking for help.... or is it the geologist friend in Colorado? Anyway, I know someone who is looking for someone to help them out.

Steady on, Dannik, there's no need to get so desperate so quickly!! Suggesting civil engineering really is plumbing new depths of despair!!

Erm... there's no members here who are civil engineers are there...?

I never finished college. :(

Got disillusioned with the education system in general and the job market wanting experience and all that crap. I'm very depressed with the idea of having to take out yet even more college loans just so I can have the privilege of getting what ultimately would be...a dumb, mind-numbingly boring, drone workerbee type, soul sucking job.

While my current job does suck (its a city job) at least I have a lot of freedom (A LOT OF FREEDOM) that most people in a regular job simply does not have. LOL I mean I REALLY get to get away without a lot of crap! So for now I guess it satisfies me. Eventually though I guess I would be going back to school anyway so I could attempt to find a more fulfilling job.

Not sure what though. Time will tell I suppose. :(

Thanks everyone.

I have/will be sending resumes to anything that my education is even remotely related to. I minored in biology so I'm also applying for biology jobs. Mostly I've been going to websites, searching by state and applying to anything geology or biology related or anything that doesn't list an experience requirement.

Are you willing to move?
God yes. I have no intention of staying in Texas any longer than I have to.

Colorado will work. I was hoping for Montana, Wyoming, one of the Dakotas or Vermont but Colorado will do.

Geology? What you wanting to specialise in?
Anything really. I'm not picky, just greedy.

Is one of my co-majors. Though I doubt I am going to do this mumblemumblemumble sedimentology....
Sedimentology is fairly easy. What I HATED was petrology. All those rock classification systems drive me nuts.

Good money in it if you can swing it right though.
I'm hoping.

@ Stalker_Zero: Aren't you a ray of sunshine? :P But trust me, I know the feeling.

I grew up in Montana before I moved to VA 7 years ago. I took my family back there last summer for camping and white water rafting and it was a very memorable trip. I miss it a lot sometimes but it definately lacks a lot of things I like about the east coast as well. Mild winters for example is a term not used in Montana. If you like peace and quiet and absolutely no traffic (biggest thing I miss, damn you D.C. traffic) Montana is a great place.

Ryan, Go to Newmont.com and check out the openings. If you apply give me heads up so I can alert my friend to your application.
Thanks! I haven't yet, but I can tell you already that I will be applying to at least the "Denver Corporate Office - General Expression of Interest" link. I don't have much time left on my home internet this month. (I have a free Juno account limited to 10 hours. This wasn't a problem when I was a student. I just used the schools. Now. . . :( ) So anyway, next time I go to the library I'll apply for whatever interests me and I'll PM you and say what I've applied for.

Sounds like my kind of place.
