firefly2442 0
What's the best free program for windows for downloading files. An accelerator that can open multiple connections and resume partially downloaded files... something like DA or Getright.... what's the best one? Thanks.
Ruin 17
GoZilla is what I used when I was on dial-up. I got transfer speeds of 10KBS in a place where I usually ran 2KBS.
Avey 0
I use Download Accelerater Plus (DAP) which does the trick. I haven't noticed much acceleration but i don't care, i can pause and resume downloads which is all that matters after trying out tons of programs which didn't work. Stinger 0
No program can actually speed up your downloads. Its never gonna happen not possible. I used DAP for awhile and liked it alright.
Rocky 1,224
No program can actually speed up your downloads. That's not strictly speaking true. Some Download Accelerators work by finding the same file at different locations, and downloading them at the same time. So, say you are downloading a file from Server A, and Server A is a bit overloaded, and is only sending it to you at 3Kb/sec, and I have DAP running, I might be getting it at 12Kb/sec because I am getting it from Server A B and C. It's a while since I looked into this but I believe that's how it works.
Stinger 0
Strictly speaking I guess it would work that way, though DAP hasnt ever done that for me. And I'll laugh at you when it skips over some of the download because the other Server was tasked with recieving it and was confused by DAP etc. and you get a corrupted file. DAP is too crappy to handle that well as are most. And on 56k it wouldn't matter. Nevertheless let me correct my statement; No program can actually speed up your downloads while downloading from the same server. Its never gonna happen not possible. I used DAP for awhile and liked it alright. There is a small tweak in the registry for Broadband users that helps them to dload faster (not hardly noticeable) and lets in more TCP packets at one time, though it can clutter your TCP stack and screw up the dload. firefly2442 0
Anyone know of any that don't have ads? I looked into DAP and the free version uses ads to support it. I need all the bandwidth I can get on my modem connection.

If so those files can be easily removed to make it fine. I used to use DAP and it did seem to accelerate my downloads Hmmm...do sugar pills help you recover from a bad cold?
