I am quite active on this and on the ghostrecon.com forums, as a true GR/GRAW fan I try to help people, straighetn up flaming posts about UBI and try to help people find solutions to their problems. Since UBI support doesn't answer calls! The fact that GRIN reads these forums better than the UBI equivalent speaks a lot for them, constructive discussions are most common here, and it is clear that GRIN got a lot of Ideas to better the games from these forums.

I do understand that company policies can be jeaopardised by enthusiast GRIN developers showing more than alowed, but I cannot remember any post that has been taken back because of too much info, on the other hand, GRIN has a good standing in posting just enough to keep our attention, and keep buying their/UBI's game.

Yhough it hurts me to say this, but I hope GRIn will find another publisher to sell a "sequell"of GRAW to, maybe they can coöperate with Blackfoot..... (oops)

Well thus far my word, I say HAIL GRIN and hmm UBI think again please.

I know Grinners have been posting, so the ban has been ipso facto lifted, but can an admin confirm that the gag order is OFFICIALLY lifted?

It is lifted, so we can save the French jokes and full on assualt for another time :pirate:

And what about the news of this '4 week patch limit'? What can they really fix in 4 weeks? What about AC support? Still alot of questions need answers before I run out and buy this for MP.

I agree, i didn´t buy this game just to get a new RS: Vegas fiasco. Suport the games you make and stand by them since they reflect what you are. Show that you are a grade A publisher and not some nickle and dime POS company.

The 'distance' that UBI appear to maintain from their customers surely does nothing to promote brand loyalty. To further aggrevate that by making such ill advised decisions can only mean one or two things.

A) After GRAW2 hits the shelves UBI do not want to invest further in the product by long term support!

B) They do not see the PC lasting for too much longer in it's present form!

C) They don't consider that the genre has the potential to support a successful third Graw!

I must admit, it's difficult to visualise what the theme for a third GRAW would be without it becoming just another sci-fi game.

[GR] brought me into the world of online gaming at the age of 43, now some years following [GR] we finally have what looks like a brilliant game as a follow on from [GR] we have people getting political, for what its worth i think GRAW2 has what it takes to be a world beater, BUT there has to be communication between the community and the developer, if this is gagged, the game will die, just like everything else ubi have tried so far as a replacement to [GR], what do you guys think? I personally am gutted

I am on my second disk from the shop and it still wont install

Nice to hear Grin is not actually bound and gagged in their basements!

Tech

I have suspected ever since purchasing GRAW1 and especially since installing the GRAW2 demo Belial that something is strange about the GRAW installer. Both GRAW1 and the GRAW2 demo would not defrag after installing without a 3rd party defrag tool (O&O) and a very time comsuming double defrag.

None of the other 60+ titles I own have this problem. Direct, concise explanations of these kind of tech problems without unecessary discourse is vital to keeping us informed as to why such things happen. Hopefully Grin will now remain ungagged.

Personal overview

I know it is not likely common that a publisher thinks or cares much about those insisting on waiting for confirmation a title will work well and/or be patched proprerly, but the fact is it's common for some customers to wait until they see a price that matches what they've seen/heard regarding the state of the product at the time they decide to buy it.

Despite the many preorders and volume of sales, the fact is if you were to take away the many purchases that are made after proper patching is done, most of these top selling publishers would be seriously hurting.

UPDATE

The word on the street, as they say, is that things are about to turn around :)

So, get down the store, buy the game (unless you are in the US  ), post up what needs fixed and start enjoying it - I know I am!

Day late and a dollar short. This whole stupid thing is the straw that broke the camel's back. I'll buy GRAW2 because of GRIN. And I'm still not gonna buy another UBI product after that. Without customers, the stock still fails.

Pesto 4 UBI president!

errr... ya, ok tired going to bed.

VOTE PESTO!

I second this nomination! Even if Pesto is now resident of a DICE household, as I recall...

Glad the gag was lifted, but the fact that it was ever emplaced at all is, as Metal_Jacket pointed out, sad. Within reason, of course. I don't expect a publisher to let their developer talk to the community in unofficial forums about any old thing, especially specifics of what's coming down the pipe. Got it. But GRIN's interaction with THIS forum has long been a wholly positive thing. It has led to the resolution of many a problem that made it past in-house QA and play testing. It was likely (though I can't verify this) a major influence on more than one game mode in GRAW. GRIN is a developer that likes to listen to US, and that is an example the publisher would be well-served to follow.

Unlike with GRAW, I don't have a reserved/preordered copy of GRAW2. I still haven't even decided to buy it. And it's entirely because of Ubisoft's involvement...

Ubisoft seems to be yet another dispointment as a company to the same lines

of EA Games

Pushing out sequal after sequal , focusing on graphics over game play ,

consoles before PC games and each game being buggy without proper

standalone dedicated server software for games that DOES NOT NEED A COPY

of the retail game period

Gag order lifted: Good. Nice to see common sense prevail.

I'm still rather miffed at Ubisoft for their treatment of Rocky and GR.net. GRAW2 wouldn't be half the game it is (so I've heard, haven't tried it myself yet) without this forum and its interaction with the developers.

I think an official apology from Ubi is warranted. It would also prove those calling Ubi "arrogant Frenchies" wrong.

Are you familiar withthe expression "Pushing your luck"?

Well, wrong in this particular case then...

Besides, if Ubi doesn't apologize, they'll be proven right

  • 3 weeks later...

So the Gag order has been lifted. That doesn't mean UBI hasn't restricted GRIN's responses. Maybe they have been told to respond to general chat (to prove the gag is lifted) but not to specific topics, so the flak is taken of UBI. E.I. "Please don't mention the war!". Or am I being a bit to suspicious?
