Stinger 0
Last night I was chuggin along merily on my computer then stumbled across making disc images and since it was something I had wanted to get more into I read it. After reading I remembered that with my Iomega HDD I recieved a Norton Ghost full version so knowing that I format once a month or so I went ahead and installed it. I told it what partition I wanted an image made of and it told me to restart the system so it could do it. So off she went. When restarting the prgrm kept getting an error and couldn't make the image. So I figured oh well it was free anyways and plucked out the cd. I restarted and when the computer was loading I kept getting a "Missing Operating System" msg. OH NO I said I dont want to format no . So I grabbed an XP disc and went into Recovery Console. I attempted to fixmbr with no luck and it made things worse. I then remembered that I dual booted (yeah sometimes you forget important stuffs)! Assuming gay old Norton had trashed my boot.ini NTLDR and NTDETECT.com files I just reinstalled 2k3 Server and it repaired all the files. Now both are working Great! While installing I saw that Ghost tried to make new partitions on its own that were larger than my HDD. Oh well my computer works fine again and I have a Norton Ghost cd in about 100 little shards. DONT USE GHOST!

Urban_Tiger 0
This is not a "Told ya so" incase ya think it is, cos it ain't m8 lol...... ......But I did try to kinda subtly warn ya about "some of" the Norton stuff (not all by any means) a few days back NM......hopefully you'll get to the bottom of it and have it totally sorted soonest ! Stinger 0
I didn't see the post or I forgot I still like NAV, but PF is a bit annoying (doesn't know ###### a network is) and Utilities is okay I spose but mainly just takes up space.
Urban_Tiger 0
LOL.........You definitely can't remember it can ya hehehe !!!!! That was the very post I was saying that I use Norton for many things but the Norton PF itself sucked the big one......you replied it was great in the subject post on it LOL !! Remember as well, that's when I said try out the McAfee Firewall 4.0 (when you nearly jumped outta ya chair at that word hehehe), when all is said and done Norton's stuff can be very good but I wasn't posting that info to read it maself m8 lol, I was genuinely trying to help ya out ! The NAV is awesome which I do use and I often use Norton Utils for some bits and bobs to great effect too ! Honestly tho, McAfee Firewall 4.0 is actually very good, very easy to use, has some cool advanced features built into it too and if you use the advanced features you can set everything up for the maximum or minimum protection where required and it's learning process's are very good too ! It also gives more than 50% outright protection than the Norton PF too and you don't get any of the greif that you have mentioned this time either!!! I know it's a personal preference thing and we all have em, you don't like McAfee fair enuff (neither do I for many things), but D'load the trial version and evaluate it m8......You may be suprised...... Hope it helps ya out this time anyway m8 hehehehe !
Stinger 0
Now I remember, my opinions on Norton keep changing cept NAV. I have McAfee Virus Scan 7.0 Professional and it has Firewall and whatnot in it, but I hate it to death. I don't *NEED* a firewall as my acess point has one and all but for awhile is was fun to have 4 firewalls too. As I wrote this in my edit, NPF just started telling me about bloody TCP Flags again! I dont give a rats! Stupid NPF doesn't know when to shut up even if I already told it. Edited April 27, 2003 by Stinger
