bugkill
ok, i might be a bit picky here, but i'm a stickler when it concerns military bio's. the bio's of the ghosts is absolutely horrible. there are many of us in the military and it would have made sense for one the guys from GRIN, red storm, or whoever to ask us to come up with a realistc bio for the characters. the characters are SF operators, but their bio is completely jacked! so, i did an edit and if it is not too late to update the breifing.xml file, i hope GRIN can be able to use this as the bio for each ghost. here is the layout: SCOTT MITCHELL\n\n<c=txt_pos1>DATE OF BIRTH: <c=txt_pos7>08/13/76\n<c=txt_pos1>AGE: <c=txt_pos7>38\n<c=txt_pos1>RANK: <c=txt_pos7>Captain\n<c=txt_pos1>SERVICE: <c=txt_pos7>US Army, 7th SFG\n<c=txt_pos1>POSITION: <c=txt_pos7>Ghost Team Leader\n\n<c=txt_pos1>PROFILE: \n<c=txt_pos7>Scott Mitchell is a professional soldier. WhiteKnight77
The only problem is, being a Green Beret and assigned to a SF unit is not a temporary assignment via TAD or TDY. It would be a PCS type of duty.
RAbbi_74
PCS isn't a duty type. All of this talk of what real SF folks do and do not is useles until it's addressed by folks who ARE or HAVE BEEN real SF. In the meantime, though, cheesy Hollywood bios are as annoying to those of us age 4 and older as are the cheesy cinematic sequences that played in GRAW in-game. The general's uniform was cheesy (either general- take your pick), the lieutenant wearing a suit was supremely cheesy, and the rank confusion with Ramirez (was he a CPT or SFC- depends on when you read/listen) was simply a pathetic lack of quality control in Ubishaft's LA studio, which purportedly kicked out all the common animation and sound. All I need to know to fire those dingleberries from ever working another Clancy title again is the GRAW demo. That alone should have justified their being fired, beaten, and hanged. It was like 6th Grade again, when we had to write our first piece of fiction. Horrible. And if there's someone reading this who's involved in the nutroll of bios and cut scenes and video sequences and voice scripts, then yes it IS my intent to offend. Y'all deserve it. Ubi clearly cares as much about realism as I do about Chelsea Clinton- NOT AT ALL. But aside form these SMALL, TINY little nuances (which I hope we can cut out of the xml script somehow) this SHOULD be a better game than GRAW was, based on the reviews to date. Let's hope... I beg to differ, but these forums aren't the place for such a discussion as it would be very off topic.
Traveler
I don't know much about military jargon but the bio seemed pretty weak. I thought part of the UBI's strategy was to get us more invested in the charters. Oh, did I hear the narcom right when the general said that he did not want to blow sunshine up Mitchell's ASS. I my just be getting old or missing a joke, but shouldn't it be smoke? Edited July 6, 2007 by Traveler

It would be a PCS type of duty. ok, let me clear this up for you. i felt that the unit should have been a specialized SOF unit that draws it's personnel from different branchs, not just the army. the basis for making the ghosts did not stack up and i felt that the ghosts were more of a unit with a diffeent mission than being standard green berets (direct action seems to be their specific mission template) and the use of all of these futuristic gadgets is a key indicator. this is what i envisioned and i feel that it makes the ghosts more realistic. also, i tried editing the .xml file, but it won't work. i would appreciate it if any of you guys could edit for me with the info i posted and PM me. Compare them to the bios written for the characters in the original R6 or GR games. http://ghostrecon.3dretreat.com/grspecialists.htm GRIN does not create the background for the GR characters, they use assets already created by Ubi for the 360 and plug them in to the PC version. Saddest thing is that Ubi DOES have access to authentic "real-life" Ghosts through contacts from Red Storm - consultants in the military who are more than happy to provide authenticity info, but the game designers refuse to use them in favor of sticking to tired Hollywood stereotypes. WhiteKnight77
While I have not read the Bios on Mitchell and the others, I haven't even downloaded or installed either demo, If they need boosting some then no problem. We know that the Green Berets in the past did help with training and such, but if one recalls that our old 5th SFG friend HF said that even the GB's are moving towards more direct action type missions. Maybe GRIN could fix up the Bios, but as it is, the Ghosts are in an Army unit and outside of the specialists in GR which were a fluke to begin with, assigning anyone even if temporary from other branches of the services is a no go. Ths also applies to those who want weapons from everywhere under the sun. Sure, there may be times when an SF unit uses weapons indegineous to a country to help blend in, they still have the typical Army issue weapons from the US arsenal. Sure, there may be times when an SF unit uses weapons indegineous to a country to help blend in, they still have the typical Army issue weapons from the US arsenal. dude, the direct action (meaning going after high level personnel) mission is not up to SF. there is alot of politics involved and they (USASOC and USSOCOM) are the ones that will decide what units will do what. now, there are moments when SF units will get to do some form of direct action, but not on the level of "tier one" units. the reason i felt that the "ghost" unit would be better suited as a TAD unit is because the mission of the unit appears to be on the lines of a specialized unit for specific purposes, much like CAG. SF units have a wide range of uses in theatre and there is no other unit in the military that can do their mission like they can. it's easy to make a tactical game and consider the unit SF, but the missions that the unit conducts is not in anyway like true SF. you don't get to train indegious personnel and lead them on an attack or meet up with locals to gain favor. in this game it's all DA (direct action) and hunting down bad guys, which is not SF strengths or main mission. by the way, i responded to your email the funny thing is that i'm one of those military types and i've always extended a helping hand. i was in SOF and i know a great deal that could have been fixed in the game and the bios is a big one to me. there is nothing worse than playing a military game that is completely inaccurate on background info on a character and the way our uniforms look (they got the tactical gear right, but the general's uniform is a mess). like i said before, GRIN can feel free to use my bios for the game (i know it's wishful thinking and it may already be too late) and i sure hope that someone is able to edit the .xml file for me, so i can use it myself. bugkill
ok, for the damn record. i have served over 14 years in the US military (11 yrs active duty). i have served with the 82nd, 101st, NATO (netherlands), 1AD (served in iraq), and 1SFG (served in afghanistan). i used my ako when i was approached about my service and it showed that i was with SF during that time. i no longer am in SF and now i'm back to being a grunt/paratrooper in a LRSD (Long Range Reconnaissance Det.). whiteknight, i sent you a PM and that is the last one i'm gonna send on this issue. i don't make claims about SF, i only share my experience while i was there. i was a SOF support soldier, but it makes no difference because my mission was the same as the green berets and the mission did not get done without one of us. i did not sit on my ass at the FOB, i did many missions over there that required me to fly all over eastern afghanistan or doing tactical convoys with SF operators, that's all fact. @snowfella, what up dude!!! it's been awhile!!!! i'm doing good and things are moving along just nicely. If the bios are easily changed, someone should come up with something more fitting and post it up.
