It seems everytime I saw him run fast someone was fireing.Then he is guilty huh.Just like nobody in there right mind would release a game on friday.lol He also could have been a loud mouth punk downloading porn while playing the game and was lagging and couldnt figure out why sos he made it up lol.Or not.lolHes flying though.

Whoa, now that guy was totally hacking. Why they couldn't add punkbuster to GRAW 2, but added for Vegas, is beyond me.

He claimed he was hosting the server. If true, then I think it's reasonable to infer that AC was turned off, therefore (probably) not a Grin issue.

well first AC only deals with altered files. not in memory checks. so this could run with or without AC on or not.

good thought canga. probably so. but the game is essentially the same. so some slight of hand and you got a GRAW2 speedhack adapted to GRAW2

I have absolutely no clue on how hacks even work. I think the biggest hack I've ever done is removing the intro movies to Tiger Woods 2007. lol

Holy cow word gets around! That's the vid I shot. If anyone wants to see it higher res then here's the link. Understand, this particular clip was taken in a private server. I was on this dude's team and originally spotted him in one of Gamespy's servers. It was one of the 3 respawn servers, I don't recall which one. Later that night we hopped in (what he said was) his server (Ghost OC3) and I had the wherewithal to exit the game, fire up fraps and take vid. I set fraps for half res and for 20fps. Fraps showed me that I was getting 20fps when it's recording function was enabled.

Understand that I originally contacted Rocky and Colin (at UBI forums) about this. I didn't want to publicly post this for the reason that I gave the GRIN'ers a hard time for the previous release and I didn't want the fact that this guy was hacking to be undermined by previous opinions. Those of you that know me know I helped put a huge dent in catching these losers during the GR days. That's my sole reason for making this vid. If GRIN can put the kibosh on this before GRAW2 goes gold then that would be great.

I love GRAW2. We're already discussing dedicated servers (we have one for Lock On) and we'll be renting another.

Hey ruggbutt, no probs mate. It isn't an issue that means Grin sucks or not. world of warcraft has a speedhack as do many games but no matter. grin has done excellent work with GRAW2. they could be the ones that fix that issue

Thanks pal, that was a real eye-opener. I've been playing computer games for 10 years now, but just recently tried some multiplayer stuff. Truth to be told, GRAW 2 demo really hooked me and I was wondering if I should "go multi" and do fancy stuff like buying Battlefield 2 and joining a GRAW clan But after seeing this, I wonder if it's really worth my time.....

Or some speed so he could keep up with music that was being played at the [illegal] Ghost Recon rave a few blocks away from where the player that shot the videos was standing. Although, judging by the vid, I'd say the rave started about half hour prior, therefore the guy is late (which will explain why he's running so fast). Come on, you know this is the most logical reason.

Clowns with obvious hacks like that shown don't bother me so much since he really isn't trying to hide it ....find another server IMO.

What does bother me is if one can alter the game to that effect, then they can be much more subtle in they're changes like taking just a hair more damage so they win every surprise shootout, or altering weapon traits or adding gaydar.

The small advantages are the worst because your left wondering if the guy is a cheater or not, but you can't come right out and nail em.

Maybe I missed it. Was the AC acutally circumvented? Was it off? Anyone know? Because it makes all the difference in the world if it was or was not. I'm not disputing that he's cheating, but I'm interested in how or why he could. Certainly it could be a 3rd party cheat, but more likely he's abusing the poorly implemented "mod" system of GRAW.

GRAW1 had the same thing with out the AC. Many people who use certain "ahem" mods can zoom across the map at mach speed. We see it all the time in COOP. So enhanced player speed is nothing new. The question is was the AC enabled on the server? If it wasn't and it was his server, sure he's hacking in the sense that not everyone else is running the same mod, but it's not been proven that he's actually circumvented the AC.

If he was running a similar mod as the so-called 'legitimate" one I mentined above, he still shouldn't have been allowed to play with "modded" files in the first place with people running the vanilla game. But that is what you get for catering to all the people who have cried for the backwards handling of "mods" in GRAW because it was similar to how GR did it. Most games now do not support the mix and match concept of mods in games in a way that would even let them join a vanilla server regardless of anticheat or not. They wouldn't even see them in the server list. Now what you have is a situation where someone can host with modded files and then people without mods can join and are at an immediate disadvantage. Or vice versa if the AC is disabled - which should NEVER be allowed in MP no matter what IMO. You should only be able to play with others running the same mods as you - otherwise someone is at a disadvantage. Addittionally, it allows for a HUGE window for someone to abuse mods to cheat. There have been so many arguments regarding mods=cheating as a result. Of course if GRIN hadn't implemented mods in the way they did, 99.9% of that discussion would be non-existent and there would be no doubt as to what "allowed" this player to do what he's doing.

flimflam, the AC only checks for altered files NOT resident in memory hacks. my thinking is, it (the hack app) resides in memory to alter the movement speed of the player using it. just a best case scenario guess.

That's the whole point Papa and Jasgripen, we just doen't know.

We do know that it's based off the same engine as GRAW. Therefore it's a VERY good chance that player movement and speed are handled the same way. It's just as likely it's the same thing as the GRAW 1 "mods" that enhance player speed as it is a 3rd party memory resident app changing it. Infact since it would be easier for him to "mod" his game files and then host a server than to identify the direct calls in the game engine and write an application to intercept them and replace them. That's ALOT of difficult work that would take some time to accomplish. Couple that with the fact it was a home host&play server it's more likely he's modded game files.

If so the AC should block that. BUT again, no one has confirmed if the AC was enabled or not. So it's more liktly it wasn't. However, as I state before, if his system is modded, 1) he should NEVER be able to even see vanilla or differently modded servers in the first place, and 2) No one should have been able to see in the server list or join it because they weren't running the same mods. However with the mod system (er lack-there-of) anyone can play in any server without the AC no matter what mods they are running - leaving open a large window for cheating. This hands down should have been changed and was reported to GRIN many months ago.

perhaps that should be installed when we install the game. let it check before hand for altered and in memory hacks.

I'd be willing to wait for a patch to address this issue. then Grin can secretly implement an AC that the app looks for memory hacks and either shuts down the game. this would probably require an algorithm memory check to see if one is working. I mean a hack is basically a small application that tells GRAW2 in this case, to alter the running speed right?
