Tinker 1
Hi Little issue here. While backing up some mods and stuff to disc, i thought why not buy 4.7GB DVD`s instead of the normal CD`s i use. Insert disc, right click file, send to drive... Windows encountered a problem while trying to copy this file? Tried on the other and same. Even with just a jpeg. Any tips? Tinker I need to do some practicals here, and need to back up everything i have before i begin. Seems a better option to use 4.7GB at a time?
Dannik 43
While XP has the built in ability to write to CDR's, it doesn't have the ability to write to DVDR's. You'll need some 3rd party software to handle writing DVDs. There are free, open source solutions, such as InfraRecorder.
Tinker 1
Thnx Dannik Works fine. Don`t suppose you could explain this for me in simple terms?: Some drives don`t like fixation in simulation mode The disc was successfully fixated! Tinker
Dannik 43
I wish I could. The term "fixation" is frequently used, but with little explanation. From what I can tell, fixation is sort of like tracking on a VCR; it means the drive, computer and media have all shook hands, and are ready to work. If you're having troubles with fixation, a common issue is your IDE channel(s) may be in PIO mode, when they should be in DMA mode.
Tinker 1
A little like the English / Irish / Scottish / Welsh all agreed on something, and went ahead with it? Thnx again Tinker
CR6 0
While XP has the built in ability to write to CDR's, it doesn't have the ability to write to DVDR's. You'll need some 3rd party software to handle writing DVDs. There are free, open source solutions, such as InfraRecorder. Dannik is right. XP licensed tech from Roxio to have built-in CD writing in XP, but there is no support for DVD-R/RW's. Most agree the best burning software for XP is Nero, but unfortunately it doesn't work in Vista (yet). Vista has built in DVD burning capability, but I'm waiting for a better 3rd party app.
