Singleplayer Preview

Recommended Posts

So now all gaming-sites post their previews to the Preview-version of GRAW 2 and talk about the same regards. But this seems to be the first review where they criticise the lack of AA.

Come on devs - today's PCs have the power of a small volcano, so start using it.

Well, I couldn't care less since my rig sure as hell won't go beyond 1024 res with low/medium settings.

But once again an interesting read, thanks for the link! (No new screens. :( )

Now all I want is a SP-demo to convince me buy this game.

Ouch, :(

..., and we were also very surprised at the severe pop-in of objects. Tut tut. Come on devs - ...

Hopefully that is something that isn't gonna frustrate in time.

[edit]

Where did the good times go, where you would get a computer spec for each (p)review?

The Horror...!!!

Someone should do his homework there at IGN. GRAW2 uses the diezel engine for the lighting and you can't have FSAA with the deffered lighting. Although i think that under DX10 path you should be able to use FSAA+deffered lighting as Epic said that it's possible

Honestly I want to slap the guy for continually holding it up to the 360 version like it's the readheadded step child that for some reason has surprised him by actually doing something well.

Good god, we as PC gamers don't want to hear about how aspect of this game compares to the 360 version. It's almost as if this momo doesn't know about the first PC version or the original GR series on the PC. Has he been living under a rock for the last several years?

I was first amused by the keyboard in the face comment but then his arrogance towards the console games while continually laying praises to the 360 for graphical superiority and 360 this and 360 that seems quite contradictory. It makes me sick. It's a PC game for gods sake. Just say it shares some assets and be done with it. I want to know how it compares to the GRAW on the PC and other PC games NOT the console version and other console games. In fact I got the distinct impression he's a console gamer and reviewer attempting to cater to the PC crowd.

While there was some new specific information in the article, he did a pretty poor job and didn't touch on anything except 1)it's different from the 360 which almost seems suprising to him 2) The drone is almost isometric view 3)You can control temmates from command view 4) and finally there is no AA. I mean come on this is so anorexic it's almost sad. What's the AI like? How about the usage of the ROE? How about environmental effects? Sounds? To quote an old TV commercial "Where's the beef?"

If anything, this review only turns me off a bit. I agree with Cangaroo, it's definitely NOT flattering to the game.

Nothing new here really. "Nothing to see. Move along".....

Wow, what an uninformed hack. He doesn't know much about GRAW PC and didn't even pretend that he was too lazy to fact check. The "pop-up" thing does raise a flag for me, but nothing else in that preview was worth anything. It was basically just, "Hey those PC guys are getting GRAW 2 now and there's some cool extra thinky stuff we didn't get but the graphics are teh suk." This is why I never listen to critics.

I have come to the point with this network where I dont believe a thing they say.

Bassically because of the comments above and the fact they cant get there facts right about Graw1 and what it could or could not do.

A lack of or a late in appearing graphics objects is not why I am buying the game, its game and tactics, and every one knows the 2 rigs are furthest from each other in this department. So why compare in the first place, pathetic.

Its one of the worst previews I have read in relation to how it is written and its factual content.

Which leads to a very interesting idea.

Wouldn't it be interesting if a web site that we trusted always spent a couple of weeks reading the main forums before doing a preview?? And developing ideas on what to look for in the preview by listening to what people wanted. Maybe even join the forum (in cognito if need be) and then interact with the players prior to writing in order to get a flavor of the desires and dissappointments of the past to help guide ones eyes and thoughts while performing the preview. Then one could even quote the web site the previewer got questions and ideas from without directly using the posters name (to stay clear of legal issues) but at least the readers would then know where he got his ideas from and it would show background work and "due Dilligence" prior to just picking up the game and writing some perspectiveless preview.

And maybe unicorns will fly and their horn will be made of sugar candy.

Boy you hit that one on the head... I will need an SP demo (not bloody likely at this point) or a lot of you first-day buyers on GR.net will have to really LOVE it and post that before I plunk down the cash this time. Don't get me wrong, I'm PRAYING it's a win for the GR crowd... the memories from last year are a bit too fresh for me to run out and pre-order or anything.

And the lack of an SP demo really does ###### me off, the more I think about it...

Fair comments at ign, i thought the mini review was ok, looking forward to their more in depth review at the end of the month.

IGN says .."While we've got a few issues with the visuals, it's still a solid looking, if not mind-blowing, engine, especially in regards to the highly-detailed character and weapon models".

Mind blowing engine.

Go Rocky Go!

Anyways, being jaded after all these years of reading p/reviews, I kinda ignore them now and play the game myself to decide. However, I found this quote funny in the IGN preview:

Let's face it - PC gamers are simply smarter than console gamers. The scientific proof of this is the fact that they can afford the ridiculous annual upgrade sums necessary to keep a gaming PC in shape. Therefore they must have high paying jobs, ergo they must be smarter. Either that or they're elitist prats with rich daddies.

Don't mean for this to go off-topic, so this is a rhetorical question: could the fact PC gamers lilke me spend more money for upgrades mean that I am not as smart?

Actually, I have both PC and console ... and if Ubi gets me to buy both versions, they are likely the smartest ...

Console guy wrote the preview, which is easily seen in the last sentence (The bolded one). None of the PC editors of IGN are like that.

Maybe the IGN reviewer not have a high level PC , for run at 1920 X 1080/ 1600 x 1200 or more vhitout many jaggies . The engine is diferent , but at 1600 x 1200 or more , without many jaggies , for my looks better . In PC version the HDR is FP16 - FP10 in the 360 - , better precision, but the implementation not is espectacular . The shadow resolution in GRAW1 , in the 360 version is better, and the models are better , with more poligons. But the PC have better textures- more resolution - , more draw distance and AF - this is the most importan problem of the 360 . But the PC version dont have true AA.

But at low resolution and without anisotropic filter , GRAW looks bit crap , like in this new preview in french

http://www.clubic.com/test-jeux-video-7649-0-fiche-jeux.html

- bad framerate

- Enemy AI issues

Jonelo, the pistol SS with the ejected casing is a great one:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/jonelo/graw27ap9.jpg

This screen is of the multiplayer demo ;) Nice textures and great draw distance with the famous GRAW blur edge :D

In the french preview , two new gameplay videos

http://www.clubic.com/video-jeux-video-764...rfighter-2.html

The 1 video is nice gameplay video, a low resolution video . The softshadows have more resolution than in GRAW 1 ;) . This have a perfomance drop ever...

Jonelo, I don't mean to be rude but you're gonna have to get Captain Mitchell to translate that for me cause I don't speak a word of French. Atleast he speaks passive French. I agree with FlimFlam about them trying to compare our version to 360. They're almost nothing alike with a long wordy thanks to GRIN that I can't think of at the moment. And I don't know why but I've always had 1024 by 768 for my res. It just looks better to me I don't know why. But then again I've had this monitor for I don't know how long. I'd say atleast since I was 14 or 15 ad I'm now 21. Same with my keyboard and speakers. I only use my speakers when I wanna show somebody a video though. Otherwise I use my headset. And I just read some of the preview and just exited out. I'm sorry but I find that ###### to be very unprofessional. Constantly comparing the two and at times it seemed as if he was putting it down. I've played the 360 version of the first GRAW and the graphics were nice and the maps were wide-open but it left much to be desired. I really would love to express just how much I hate the guy writing the article but I don't wanna get banned so I'll just say two things. First of all "Get bent" and finally "Let off some steam Bennett!"(Arnold Schwarzenegger from Commando)

Well, I watched both videos, and here are a couple of obervations:

1. They kept calling him "Captain." I thought in his bio he got promoted to "Major."

2. That was a horrible representation of what most people here belive the way GRAW is supposed to be played:

a. He repeatedly charged blindly into firefights. Who would do that?

b. Did he understand that he had a team? I didn't see a single instance where he used his team in any manner that could be considered tactical.

c. He didn't use the tactical map once.

d. The second video ran just over 7 minutes. I think it will take me well over 20 to cover the same ground.

Based on that video alone, I would not want to buy the game. Good thing Grin produced at least 1 trailer.
