juuungle
Hi all. This might get a little long-winded, but here goes. I am wanting to upgrade the RAM in my system for the upcoming GRAW2, but I am a bit stuck as to which type to get. Firstly, my system specs are as follows: AMD Athlon64 3800+ CPU MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard (supports up to DDR400RAM) (supports Dual Channel RAM) 1GB RAM (1x512 generic DDR266, and 1x512 DDR400) Nvidia 7800GT Videocard Okay, so what I would like to know is if it is worth getting 2GB of dual channel RAM to replace what is already in there, or to buy 2GB of single channel RAM (i.e. if there would be a big difference in performance between my two options). Also, what sort of performance jump would I be likely to get? I'm currently playing GRAW1 at 1280x1024, with most options turned to low or off, and average around 35-40fps (I would rather get rid of jaggies than play with all the fruit turned on ). I expected a little better than this (my aiming also feels a shade laggy, maybe I've just been spoiled by CS:S), so I'm assuming my current RAM is where the bottleneck is. Also, I read that there were some XML tweaks to increase performance with those with 2GB RAM or more, so am hoping to utilise that. Any help here would be much appreciated! Thanks, G. Forrester
the ram you have now works in single mode, the ram should be of the same make to work in dual mode, and with the current memory pricing I'd suggest you buy 2x 1 gig ddr400
juuungle
Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, what I'm already intending to do is get rid of the RAM thats in my system in the moment, and replace it with 2x1GB dr400 sticks of RAM. What I would like to know is if I should get dual-channel RAM or not. Thanks again. G.
Sunraa
Check this PDF : http://www.kingston.com/newtech/MKF_520DDRwhitepaper.pdf On page 9 you will find Benchmark between normal and dual channel RAM. It's a bit old document, but there is good explanation.

pz3
Yes you want to get dual channel ram. You will want Twin sticks aswell... that MSI board hates using anything different. Also do note .... You should setup your RAM manually in your BIOS. If your running dual channel at 100mhz you wont see any difference then running single channel... PM if you need help since I have the same mobo as you
