Kakanater 0
I have no idea where this post should go so feel free to move it to the right location. I was wondering when will DX10 finally take dominance and become the norm in games. will it occur this year or next. When will I finally have to get a Dx10 capable gfx card. this is related to the other thread about how i might buy a new gfx card. I don't want to go into getting a card that will last a few months before it becomes completely obsolete. This is the one problem with PC gaming, the technology moves way too fast and one always has to play catch up or spend money out the ying yang.
ROCO*AFZ* 0
I would say in the next year it will be more or less mainstream or as an add on dx9 and 10 game. Company of heroes for example just released a dx10 patch to make it dx10.
Dannik 43
As Vista's install base rises, so will the need for developers to switch to DX10 as their primary focus. Bleeding edge gamers are already ready for DX10. Middle of the road folks like most users here, I expect, just aren't that interested in upgrading yet, for various reasons like cost, stability, need. Entry level or "casual" gamers, who make up the bulk of the gaming crowd, tend to buy a new Dell every few years, and as such will be entirely Vista in a very short time. There are already some huge name games that are exclusively DX10. Many other big titles are getting either a DX10 patch, or a DX9 patch, depending on their tech available. A few companies (go, Valve!) develop so that DX7-DX10 gear will all be usable, albeit with a vastly different experience for the gamer. I would agree with ROCO that you've got about a year left before you will be crossing your fingers that the new game you just heard about will work under DX9.
=warcloud= 0
I'd like to give vista a try but i'm not too sure, i like xp but time for a change. Well it looks like the DX10 platform is here and here to stay, i was put off with the upgrade to vista because of a lot of negative feedback at the start but i'm noticing gamers are switching over and the drivers are improving. I reckon crysis will be a big push for DX10 gaming, hmmmm! DX10 shader model 4 ..lol.
Kakanater 0
does any one have a list of DX10 supported cards.
Dannik 43
Nvidia 8xxx or ATI HD2xxx cards. Currently on the market: Nvidia 8800 or 8600 cards, and ATI HD2900 or 2600 cards are DX10 native.
Rocky 1,224
I've been looking at those, damn expensive they are.
Fletch 0
I jst bought a ATI X1950Pro that said Vista ready, thinking that it meant it would run DX10 was that a bad assumption?
Dannik 43
Fletch, yes. That's a late model DX9 card. It is Vista ready, since Vista can emulate DX9, but the card won't run DX10.
