Microsoft Cross Platform Shadow Run

Recommended Posts

“Perhaps the best news is that it was impossible to tell which players were playing on an Xbox 360, which ones were using the PC's keyboard-and-mouse setup, and which were playing with a controller on a PC. We played a bunch of games, and no one had the upper hand thanks to their chosen setup.” – Gamespy.com

I'd be interested to know how they came to that landmark conclusion.

They probably noticed the scores were just about average with everyone?

The gaming media has done specific tests before, too; with a game balanced for console play (such as halo, pc/console) most good controller players are just as capable as mouse/keyboard players.

Obviously, certain games are designed to rely on the speediness of the mouse (PC shooters, for this reason, tend to have heightened movement speeds) but as long as it's a console game at it's core adding a mouse to the mix shouldn't unbalance anything.

Consoles usually have some help with there aiming...

Rocky, I may have the answers you seek as posted on the C:/> Prompt: Allow New Column To Install? page at GameSpy. The writer used to work for Computer Game World which now is Games For Windows Magazine (at least here in the States). and wrote for his first article about crossplatform gaming.

Basically, we'll probably never see a pure FPS match between keyboard/mouse or a pure fighter brawl between the two, because games will inevitably compensate their rules to balance/handicap the interface it wasn't designed for. Since the hardware is unlikely to change, that means that the continual tweaking of game rules in the name of balance for the two control types translates into fanboys forever saying, "well, duh it works for you, they had to dial my controls down to accommodate spazzes like you."

Seems as if games on the PC will be hobbled (dumbed down?) to allow for crossplatform gaming and then there will be an even playing field.

I guess this is leading a FPS gamer who loves his tactics and Team Play to buy games from Only Small Dev Teams.

This CP stuff is just polishing off dedicated pc gameing from larger companies.

Well you know what they say, what goes around comes around. The loss will be theirs.

They said just the opposite. What needs to be done is for the developers to add more depth to the game, so either play style can operate effectively.
