Cpl Ledanek
XCM 360 adapter. anyone using them? I not coordinated enough to learn these gamepad and is very curious to see how many ppl use them. -is it an easier transition to console gaming? -does the console game almost feel like a PC game with it? -what games do you find it easier to play with. -what bonuses not mentioned in XCM website did you find? -does the cost pays for itself? -did the number of hours playing increase when you added this? -did the quality of gaming increase? hmmm I'm not sure if thats the word I'm looking for PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS THREAD INTO A CHEATER/ADVANTAGE/HATER/KB+MOUSE-BETTER THREAD. I'm merely trying to get a feel if this is a wise investment for me. Since upgrading to a higher end PC to meet these recommendations are getting unrealistic + publishers greediness. Rocky
Yes, I am very interested to hear any thoughts from anyone who has tried it. And just to reiterate the Cpls request above, this is a product review thread, not a KB v Controller thread - so don't blame me if you stray off topic and your post disappears. CR6
Just reminded me that I wanted to post about a new USB dongle MS has released so you can use the Wireless X360 controller on a PC BTW, topic moved to console corner as it's a "general console" topic - hope you don't mind Cpl Ledanek

dporter
I have never used the one for the xbox 360 but I did buy one for the playstation 2 called the Smartjoy Frag. It plugged into the controller port and looked similar to the one in your link. My product came with a guide on how to program the keys and it also had 8 preset setups for certain games like socom and quake. You just hit F1 through F8 on the keyboard for whatever game setup you wanted. I used it mostly for Socom. From my experience I thought it was a wonderful piece of equipment. My sniping skills became a whole lot easier with the mouse and I had a little bit better control with my movement and coordination ( I think this is where some people get the whole "cheat" thing from but to each his own). Some of the downsides to it though were that the ps2 remote is pressure sensitive, i.e. the harder I press the right one button, the farther I threw my grenade. With a keyboard you can't get the same pressure sensitivity so this meant that when I threw grenades they would always go the same distance every time. Kind of moot point for the 360 product since it is not a pressure sensitive controller. The tricky part is making sure you have a game that you want to use with the adapter that you can easily adjust your look speeds with. On socom I had to turn my look speeds way up to make it so I didn't have to lift my mouse up three times in order to complete a simple 180 look behind. I never tried it with a g5 mouse though so I don't know if you can adjust the look on the fly or if it's stricktly game side adjustment. Sorry, I know that doesn't really help you that much since it isn't the same exact product but I thought I would share anyways. Tinker Try this link Tinker: http://hardware.teamxbox.com/articles/xbox...FRAG-Review/p1/ It's the xbox equivelant to the item I used for ps2. Same maker and concept. The review in the link is great as well. I know for a fact that it will work with ghost recon two. From what I know about the people who have used it with ghost recon 2 for original xbox, it's easier to walk around in first person mode with the keyboard and mouse then the 3rd person view so keep that in mind. Another thing to be careful of are knockoff's. Here is an example of one. http://cgi.ebay.com/XBOX-PC-MOUSE-KEYBOARD...1QQcmdZViewItem It looks exactly like the Smartjoy adapter but made by another company. You'd have to research that product because I don't know anyone that has used that version. Actually looking at the picture again it even says Smartjoy in the item description which is wrong since that one is actually made by "Max Shooter". Smartjoy is a pretty reputable company and I know their stuff works so they are safe. Sorry one more thing. I was messing with mine last night to remember how I was able to adjust look speed and I remembered there is a function on the keyboard that increase look speed on the fly which makes it nice. At $28.90 plus shipping Should be arriving soon! Thnx for the link. Your other comments about movement, i heard spinning on a center axis with the Mouse has issues? Is this what you mean by fixing the look speed? Thnx again Tinker

Your other comments about movement, i heard spinning on a center axis with the Mouse has issues? Is this what you mean by fixing the look speed? Thnx again Tinker The guy in the linke explains it better then I can. Here is a good brief on adjusting the dead zone (look speed): Probably the best feature found in the SmartJoy FRAG is the ability to adjust several hardware settings. The first one is the deadzone, which basically stores a value for the sensitivity assigned to the mouse acceleration. A low deadzone value will require you to make big and long moves with your mouse to look up/down or turn left/right while a high deadzone value will require just short moves with your mouse to achieve a corresponding movement on the screen. You can adjust deadzone between 0 and 99, with increments of ten being assigned by simply pressing ESC and the corresponding number key. You can fine tune with the ESC and +/– keys. So, let’s say you want a deadzone value of 34, the sequence to would be : That alone is a great feature of the adapter. If you don't like the sensitivity you can adjust it midgame. $28. That seems kind of high to me. I paid $19 new in package off of ebay a couple years ago. Still worth it though I think. cajun47
i have the smartjoy k/m adapter for xbox. overall i don't like it. it works alright for some fps and not so great for others. its no where near as good as a k/m on pc games. the XCM for 360 looks like its not much better but i haven't tried it myself. search for videos on youtube. the splitfish ps2 and soon to be ps3 mouse caught my eye: i was excited about it but after watching the video it looks like its harder to aim than with a controller. not a replacement for k/m on pc. imo the only thing that will work is ps3 shooters with full k/m support built in. sure some ps3 fps will have this just like SOME ps2 shooters had k/m support. very few. im not gonna waste money on hopes. im not buying the 360 or ps3 and these 3rd party mouse things. i'll just invest in pc hardware and get the controls i want....all the time.
