rupper
Hello all, I've just bought this monster and I'm not very satisfied with it for now. Don't misundestand me, it runs smoothly most of the time, at high levels, but when there's enemies nearly, sometimes fps drop to levels over 28-30 frames, at 1280x1024@70 My specs: AMD 4400+ x2 3 Gb ram ddr-400 dual channel x-fi fatality ed. Windows xp driver v. 97.92 (released january, 10th) I know there are a few posts regarding 8800 gtx performance, but I think it's better to have a new thread about this. could anyone post his impressions about it based on his own experience? Thanks and regards
Nutlink
Strange....when I used a single 7900GTX I never dipped into the 30's (lowest I think was 43 or so on heavy areas). Now I have 2 7900GTXs in SLI, and running the game at the same resolution/settings, I get around 60+ fps almost everywhere. My specs: 2x 7900GTX (in SLI using 93.71 drivers) AMD Athlon X2 4800+ 4x512MB Corsair Value RAM It may be drivers, or it may be your CPU (although mines not much better). What power supply do you have? It might not be able to power everything. Make sure you check the amps on the 12v rails. Oh, and I run the game at everything on high @ 1680x1050
rupper
Hello Nutlink, What power supply do you have? It might not be able to power everything. Make sure you check the amps on the 12v rails. It's a thermaltake PurePower 500v, so I think it's ok for a non sli configuration. Reading the PSU manual, 12v rails are able to give about 18 amps, if i'm not wrong (I'm not at home atm) Thanks.

DeathDad
Not sure, but you guys might be CPU throttled. I have Evga 8800GTX w/C2D 6600 O/C and run the game at 1920X1200, all detail maxed except shadows. Get anywhere from 70-100 FPS. Your CPU may be holding back the full potential of the 8800. JASGripen
Not unlikely. I got an AMD +3800 (2.4 Ghz) and a X1900XT, I get usually about 65 FPS in 1280*720 with everything at max. I could also have Power supply problems: 450Watt SmartPower 2.0.
rupper
What about the temperature? Might be the card is slowing himself because of this reason? I'm gettin around 80-90ºC while playing. Anyone noted this? Just installed ASUS SmartDoctor and it says "VGA chipset is overheated! Contact with ASUS for help" Anyway, these levels were normal with my 7800 GTX... Regards. Edited: Asus SmartDoctor must be setup after installed: there's a setting regarding tempeture alarm that should be put in the desired report level, so it looks like this is not the problem. JASGripen
For my part it is only the NB which is the problem and it is about 75 c degree, not that hot in other words.
kram_2006
a guy in bda has 2 8800 gtx cards running SLi, they have the same framerates as running 1 card, no performance boosts. Dont make the same mistake!!!! SLi also currently not supporting dual monitors.
Rubleman
I'm running this game on the following rig: AMD 4400+ at 2.5g NF4 DFI Utra motherboard 2gig ddr500 ram NVidia 8800GTS, latest xp drivers Fatality X-FI soundcard 700watt OCZ PSU I run graw at highest settings at 1900x1200, very smoothly. With the above setup and with ATI 1900XT, I was able to reach 1680x1050 resolution, all else on highest. 8800GTS is a much smoother experience. Just make sure you have AA and AF set to application controlled in the NVidia 3d control panel, and also turn off transperancy aliasing there (I think that's the setting). rupper
Hello Rubbleman, With the above setup and with ATI 1900XT, I was able to reach 1680x1050 resolution, all else on highest. 8800GTS is a much smoother experience. Just a question, which game mode did you try to see those results? It's not the same playing an online game and playing single player or watching another player while in online. i.e. I get 90-120 frames while watching another's game but I keep in the known limits when playing online. Anyway, nVidia control panel uses applications profiles to optimize many games, and these settings are ok after reviewing them. Thanks and regards. Even with GRAW application profile, you may want to try different settings. I have not checked my frame rates for figures, but certainly no slowdowns at all.
