Poita Posted December 18, 2006 Share Posted December 18, 2006 (edited) I've been negative on princple with GRAW since watching all the vids and reading all the reports. I couldn't play it as my card wouldn't run it but i finally bought a nVidia 7600GT to go along with my Athlong XP 2gig and 1 gig of ram. So now, six months late it finally runs. I downloaded the demo and played it and i looked around for a cheap copy of the game and found one on Ebay UK for 4.99 pounds. Not bad eh. I bought one for myself here in Korea and one for my old GR1 mate in the UK so should be up and running the full game in a week. Well, of course there is a long list of things i really don't like about the game but some of them will get fixed when i have the retail copy patched up and running such as not having the lean on sticky, maybe a better graphics performance than the 1024 768 low setting, no post, no anti aliasing and anistropic. Still despite those things i found the basic bread and butter of the game, namely sliding bhind cover, leaning and fireing, capping mo fo's from a distance on single shot setting etc was just as great at is was in GR1. Better in some way. The gameplay and feeling of the demo felt to me to be what BF2 'should' have been. Precise and reactive. I'm also glad to see that it's a bloody hard game. Well as i wait for my retail copy to arrive i have some questions maybe you guys can answer. 1. In the downloads section of this site there are two hud mods. Can you explain the diff to me. Which one is the more sparse and what each takes away and moves and where i can see screenies of each. 2. Please lordy tell me that one of the HUD mods does something with that abboration that is the MP chat window blocking the top of the screen that i've seen in some screenies. Can it be done away with or put at the bottom? 3. I read there is co op missions and [GR] coop. Whats the difference. Also, can the main campaign missions be done in co op? 4. I saw loads of mods in the downloads area and downloaded a bunch to be ready. If i install many of them will they conflict. For example if i put the blood mod on, the de yellowing thing, the draw distance extender, the sopmod weapon, the clean hud, some co op missions, some maps, etc . . . . can i have them all on and running and will they conflict with each other and can i use them in sp, co op, MP dm and TDM etc. please let me know about each one. 5. Why hasn't someone modded the silly sniper scope view? I mean, do we 'really' need to know the distance in meteres 'and' feet and isn't that orange cross hair just a bit dramatc? Is it that it can't be changed or is it that no one is bothered about it as i am. 6. In the demo i can turn the hud mess off so it doesnt highlight the enemy but i cant stop it from diamonding the ai and i assume co op real world people. Is this togglable in the 1.35 patch or does it get removed in the clean hud or another way? 7. How is the ladder/tdm scene now the game has been out a while. I cant seem to find a list of teams in the combatzone site. GR1 was really picking up speed at this stage in its release but i havent heard much about the clan scene. Also, how is the openserver population in TDM's, does it have a healthy number of players? 8. Please tell me that online play isn't ruined by cheater scumbags? 9. Is it just my computer or does this game not have a 1600 1200 res setting? Not that i'd be able to run it on that or anything but that's a first for a game that i've heard of. 10. Final question for now but . . . just how much of a drubbing am i gonna have to take here after all my biatching about GRAW, now that i've finally played it and am (provisionally, having played the demo) 'into it' . On another note. I was thinking of how GR1 had two elements that i liked. One was city battles and one was foliage battles. Having played Armed Assault a bit i realised that i'm gonna get the same GR1 experience but with two different games. GRAW in my opinion does the 'Embassy/Vilnius/Red Square etc type maps very well but not so good at Country side ones. And ArmA is a bit clanky in the city but excells in more natural surrounds. So i'm just gonna have to alternate between the two to get the complete Ghost Recon experience. Edited December 18, 2006 by Poita Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
sui317 Posted December 18, 2006 Share Posted December 18, 2006 1) no idea as they can not be used for online play on publick servers unless some one hosts with that mod 2) can be turned off by pressing "u" 3)coop is the mission part of graw / [GR] coop is firefight on some maps and recon, and editable with ingame editor 4)mods are SP or LAN only unless a server has mods installed (has anyone seen one ?? ) 5)no new scope for as far as i know 6)only in a mod for as far as i know........ 7)i can not say because i am not into numbers 8)little to no cheaters for as far i know, or have seen, if a copy deviates with the server they can get kicked by server anti cheat check 9)it's there if the gpu can handle it or the monitor 10) don't ask me, i think it takes a lot of curage to openly express enthousiasme have fun playing hope to see you online Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Pritzl Posted December 18, 2006 Share Posted December 18, 2006 10. Final question for now but . . . just how much of a drubbing am i gonna have to take here after all my biatching about GRAW, now that i've finally played it and am (provisionally, having played the demo) 'into it' . I applaud your honesty. GRAW isn't perfect, but then again, what game is? If you approach it as the long-awaited [GR] sequel then you're bound to be disappointed, esp. if your focus is MP (pre-patching) and/or your rig isn't up to snuff. OTOH, if you come at it with an open mind as a game unto itself you will be pleasantly surprised. The AI is competent, the cross-com revolutionary and the gameplay very entertaining. In that respect, I think Gamespot's review was spot on: While the PC version of GRAW offers the most impressive and expansive campaign, the extreme system requirements and multiplayer headaches make this tactical shooter feel rougher around the edges than it should. Not much. Now i got a new one (GFX card) i tried it and i can't even begin to tell you how much i hate it. Honestly though, you are far from the first person to come to the same conclusion after giving it more than a cursory attempt, it is a grower for sure, enjoy it Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NoQuarter Posted December 19, 2006 Share Posted December 19, 2006 3: Co-Op=original campaign missions with a total of 4 Ghosts (you and any combo of human/AI teammates). [GR] Co-Op=3 stock and numerous modded maps with a total of 12 (16+ modded) Human players...no teammate AI running 2 game types; firefight (kill them all) and recon (get to extraction-Zulu). 5: You can easily comment out (<--*-->) either of these objects <place object="scope_distance_meters_text" scale="1.00" at="0.45 0.6 32" align="1.0" alpha="190"/> <place object="scope_distance_feet_text" scale="1.00" at="0.61 0.6 32" align="1.0" alpha="190"/> (<!--<place object="scope_distance_feet_text" scale="1.00" at="0.61 0.6 32" align="1.0" alpha="190"/>--> for example) and edit the RGB value <xdefine name="crosshair_color" value="255 85 0"/> to whatever floats your boat in the crosshair_scope.xml PATH- Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter/local/english/gui/crosshair_scope.xml Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

NoQuarter Posted December 20, 2006 Share Posted December 20, 2006 Is there a way to make the game start with the chat window disabled? Like edit some xml file. Well one way to do it is to exclude the following objects in the hud_mp_chat.xml <layout name="chat_box_spr_layout" size="800 600"> <!--<put object="frame"at="0 0 -1" at2="0 0 -1" size="400 72"size2="800 144" /> <put object="history_frame"at="5 5 -1"at2="10 10 -1"size="390 49"size2="780 98" /> <put object="input_frame" at="54 56 -1"at2="108 112 -1"size="341 13"size2="682 26" /> <put object="chat_text" at="56 54 -2"at2="112 108 -2"/> <put object="chat_table" at="7 3 -2"at2="14 6 -2"size="386 40"size2="772 80"/> <put object="all_chat_icon" at="5 55 -2"at2="10 110 -2" size="16 16" size2="32 32"/> <put object="team_chat_icon" at="25 55 -2" at2="50 110 -2" size="16 16" size2="32 32"/> <put object="logg_text_field" at="7 3 -3" at2="14 6 -3"/>--> </layout> PATH: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter/local/english/gui/hud_mp_chat.xml Default view If you pull up the SS and squint hard you'll see a small placeholder (square) that I haven't fiqured out how to lose without a CTD. A single "U" keystroke will get rid of it and 2 will disable the text. There might be a better way but I haven't found it and ...it works. The text could also be disabled but I wouldn't recommend it.
