Evilducky
Hopefully someone from grin can maybe, JUST MAYBE come in and give you a hint. You seem to have gotten farther than anyone has tried, and what you have come to is good. Just looks like you need that little push in the right direction from them and you can just well have it. Keep it up man! I wish I knew how to use 3dmax or maya.. I tried 3d max but never got to far. Edited March 17, 2007 by Evilducky
Brettzies
Just doing some texturing work and getting the mag in there. Some more pics as I try to clean things up.
Brettzies
Added the tactical grip and silencer. The original socom silencer still works for the other weapons.
Yorkshire Sniper
that looks awesome m8.... you planning any other weapons into your mod? like maybe a SPR?
rookie
Wow this looks awesome. Amazing to see what people are capable of in their free-time. I don't know jack about modding so it really is incredible to see what can be done in a game that is a pain to mod. For me, being a mod-user, I just hope you think about releasing your hard (at least it looks that way) work in the future.
bat21
Holy Toledo!!!!! Must have, Please must HAVE!!!!! Awesome work. Your attention to detail is amazing. Snows M4 has a challenger.

Brettzies
Thanks guys for all the nice comments. Since snowfella already release an excellent M4sopmod, this hasn't been as big of a priority for me to finish. I was also disappointed by not being able to line up the sights correctly which is why I started experimenting with the character rig. However, it is fun so I've decided to try and finish this weapon, even with the high scope and non-lined up ironsights(they arent' too bad to use though). that looks awesome m8.... you planning any other weapons into your mod? like maybe a SPR? Actually, I hope to do something like that. Since an M4 was already released I would like to bring something new to the table. Someone suggested an M16A4 back in the summer, and it looks cool so that is my next goal after finishing this one, with the SPR to follow that one since they are all similar. Ideally I'd release them all together, I think that would be more fun for people. However, given how long it takes and how easily it is to leave for weeks at a time, I plan to release them as they are done. Unfortunately the M4 will have to be first since I haven't built the other two. There are a few things that make custom weapon modding difficult in GRAW, but more then anything it is just tedious and prone to errors. Lots of redundant xmls and folders everywhere. On the other hand, to GRiN's credit, everything is very organized and there are few exceptions. By the time I got to the silencer, I actually made no mistakes and it came in clean the first time with the correct texture and everything. I have to say, even though it takes more time and a few "key" bits of knowledge prevent true customization, the attachment system in GRAW is probably the best I've seen. I remember people playing Raven Shield were crying for multiple attatchments, I don't think they even got it in Vegas.
bat21
I really don't think it is too high. Looks pretty damn awesome. One question. I have seen the xml files and gui for the g36 that the AI use. Why hasn't that been done yet? It would seem that it would be easy since most of the files are made. I wouldn't even know where to begin with 3dmax. IS there something that GRIN did to prevent it from being used?
Yorkshire Sniper
you kinda multiple attachments in Vegas.... you can pick the sight you want and the silencer aint a seperate attachment you can attach it to the weapon seperatly....
Brettzies
Even though I don't use gL's much myself, I figure I should put one in. Didn't have much time to work on this, but did manage to get it in minus the reload anim.
Yorkshire Sniper
looks good m8.... are you gonna add on other attachments and red dots? just the side rails kinda give lots of attachment opportunities
Brettzies
looks good m8.... are you gonna add on other attachments and red dots? just the side rails kinda give lots of attachment opportunities Thanks. Not sure I'll do any other addons right away, maybe in the future, but I just wanted to get the ones that people would want or use most first. Doing the m203 forced me to learn how to use the skin modifier in Max(I'm not a max user so it's all foreign to me). But I just got it working and the reload anim even hooks up correctly. At first I was baffeled by why it wouldn't close correctly, then I found in the xml a start time in decimal form as to when to begin the "close" action. Mine started at frame 6(after i experimented with eyeballing it), so 6 / 30 = 0.2 Works great. <var name="bolt_reload_start_time" value="0.0"/> <!-- Tube open --> <var name="bolt_reload_end_time" value="0.2"/> <!-- Tube close --> <var name="bolt_chamber_start_time" value="0.2"/> Now I just have to texture it and do the lods for the other attachments Edited March 20, 2007 by Brettzies
Brettzies
Texturing the gL attachment. And a mid reload image. Almost done, though I noticed the grenade shoots from off center and back a bit. Might be missing a null or have it in the wrong place.
