noob Q's

hello all,

i just started playing GRAW. my story goes like this...i've been looking into building a new computer, but it's not in the cards right now. which is fine considering all the new stuff that's coming out, i'm better off waiting a bit anyway. my old PC finally stopped working, looking back, i think it was the PSU, but my father-in-law gave me one of his old PC's. he's a software developer for his company, so he's got about a half dozen PC's. it's by no means the greatest rig, but it'll hold me over. i downloaded the GRAW demo, and it ran surprisingly well. so i bought the full game.

i'm having a problem with the text, both the menu text, and some of the in-game text doesn't display properly. i'll get a couple of letters that are readable, then a couple that are missing, then maybe a couple that show up as multi-colored tiles instead of letters. i've updated all my drivers, and i've tried both omega & ATI drivers for my GPU. i also downloaded 1.35 patch. any suggestions? does this sound like the GPU isn't getting enough power? i was thinking about going and picking up a new PSU. i'm not sure what PSU is in the PC right now, but that's the only thing i can think of. i get decent framerates in-game, the only problem is text issue. oh, and i'm playing on med/ low settings, if i bump up the settings to high the text gets a little better (i think), but it's still not exactly readable, and the fps becomes too low to play. any other thoughts on why the game would run fine except for the text being displayed?

my other question is about the MP community. how is it? friendly? not so friendly? active? i've been playing America's Army for a while now, and i love that game, but i'm looking for a change of pace.

thanks

Change your resolution in game and see if that makes a difference - especially at a lower resolution or try changing aspect ratios if you are using widescreen.

If it doesn't have the same graphical problems at a lower or different res, then it might be the specific settings you are using (res and refresh rate).

Take note of the refresh rate of your monitor or vid card settings and double check if you are using a non-standard one like 85hz or something. Try 60hz or 75hz and see if it helps.

Of course it could be a problem with power, but usually it manifests itself in more pervasive major graphical issues and or lockups. This is usually a sign of an insufficient PSU for the card or a PSU that is beginning to fail. What wattage is your PSU and what are your system specs (cpu, vid, card and other drives)?

Please list the system specs.

Mainboard, processor, system ram, vid-card etc.

then we might be able to see what'd wrong, though I never heard of this specific bug before.....

thanks for all the replies.

well, last night i loaded up AA 2.7. i was getting sick of not being able to read any of the GRAW menu/ text. i had some strange issues with AA as well. all the menus were a strange translucent yellow color with some pink lines at the bottom, and all the drop-down menus were screwy. in-game i had to turn off the decals, because everytime a bullet would hit something, or a frag or flash bang would go off, the place where they would explode would go all technicolor.

after playing a couple of rounds i decided to get rid of the drivers and start fresh. i skipped the CD, downloaded the latest omega drivers, installed them and everything is running great.

thanks again for the help.
