Deadpreacher
The other day at my gamecrazy i went in to chat with afew friends that work there. Just shooting the breeze really. Anyways we got around to talking about the PS3 and he was like we have 4 in the back and it's been 3 days since he got them in. He said they sold afew and had 4 left. Well anyways lets get to the funny part. Right before i was about to leave the store a young man walked in with a PS3 he got there from the other day. He had a game and his receipt with the PS3 asking to return it. Afew others in the store stopped looked at him and all started to laugh. He wasn't laughing and my friend started on the return thing for him. Besides the 4 in stock and now starting to get returns of the PS3. At least in my city the PS3 aint doing so well! Also from the last few days i been hearing many reports of other city's and towns with PS3 in stock. Is the hype over or is everyone still just broke from Xmas? Or is it just plan my City that don't want one all that much? Oh as for the Wii my store hasn't been able to keep any in store for a whole day yet still selling out in hours. Same can't be said for the PS3 anyways! The x360 is still the biggest seller in the store, but might soon get taken by the Wii if it keeps selling the way it is. Also last year for the x360 it toke until around June-July at my store before they had any on the shelfs and even still they sold out afew more times. Makes me wonder if the Wii is going to last that long? Than again the numbers seem to be stronger in the shipments for the Wii than the x360 had so time will tell. PS3 only lasted until Dec 2006 here before it had PS3 in stock for more than afew days and counting.

Sup
This is almost old news by now, but I guess it hasn't made the rounds to Ghostrecon.net yet: http://www.destructoid.com/playstation-3-k...se--28860.phtml
dporter
http://www.hdgamenews.com/2006/12/5-out-of...3-consoles.html PS3 was listed in times magazine as one of 2006's biggest flops
Deadpreacher
LOL I just had to say it not only becuase it aint selling, but only becuase of the guy returning it when i was there was a great laugh!
Rocky
I know there is a massive crowd who are just loving the failure that the PS3 obviously is, but to me it's a real shame. It's a shame there is no competition for the X360, and it's a real shame Sony dropped the ball - the Playstation name was HUGE, how could they let this happen? Sony must have some of the most talented and enterprising individuals in the gaming industry and yet this console has been a joke from the get go. I remember when I raced around the county here trying to secure a PS1 on the day of release - when there was only 2 or 3 titles actually available on release - one of those was Wipeout and that's all it needed. The PS1 rocked, the PS3 on the other hand is failing on so many counts it's quite breathtaking.
dporter
I hear that. Competition is great for the consumers. Better products, competitive pricing and at least a little bit of customer care to keep the fans on your side. I never owned a playstation 1 since I really wasn't into gaming at that time. I was in highschool, and it just wasn't the in thing to do. But I knew that that was the best system out there. When it came time for my wife to buy me a system for fathers day back in 2002 she asked me if I'd rather have a ps2 or xbox. I quickly replied ps2 becuase that was just the sytem I knew more about. As time passed a quickly realized the big differences in the consoles especially when I wanted to play online with the ps2. I had to buy a network adapter for the ps2 for around $50 which wasn't too bad considering I would have to pay $50 a year for the xbox live service (which I realized later was worth every penny). The ethernet port for the xbox was already on the system. Then I never realized the xbox had it's own hard drive making it easier to save games and get DLC. DLC was the real killer for me. I would have loved to have had extra content on a lot of my ps2 games. Socom tried but didn't do a great job of it. The real dominance of the xbox became apparent when ghost recon 2 came out. I hated it on the ps2 and then I went and played it on the xbox and it was a world of difference. Then there was timesplitters future perfect where the xbox palyers got a huge patch that fixed a lot of impotant things on the game and the ps2 fans got nothing because there was no where to store such a huge patch. I think the ps3 though has had a rocky start, but I think it will pull through and be competitive. For some reason I get the feeling that it is maybe a year or two ahead of it's time. Blue ray should not have been mandatory with purchase. Make it an option like the hd-dvd drive of the xbox 360 and you can lower costs and maybe get the system out on time since most of the problems were related to the drive. I think the spotlight right now is on Sony's mistakes so much because they have to play catch up. They are not in a good position but they are a huge company, and I don't think they want to lose the console wars without putting up a good fight. It will get interesting in the following year. Deadpreacher
I agree Competition is great as a gamer and in no way do i really want to see Sony fail. Yet i do want it to be struck down to size of the other systems also! If you ask me i really like to see a new system come out maken it 4 to choose from. I may find joy in some of Sony's down falls they haven and i know in the long run they may still take the lead, but it just brings joy to know at the end of the war it may be even for all 3 systems. This is why i love Competition with it all being even, they all get the support from Devs and at least Microsoft and Sony will be still fighting and given us the gamers all the extra features and option then we need until the very end! Also maken the next gen so much better still fighting by given us more for less! Got to love Competition and i hope this goes on for many many next gens. Last thing i want to see is anyone of them drop out of the race. Heck i love to see more companys jump in bring emm all on. Competition is great just don't want to see a clear winner is all and none drop out by given up!
pz3
dont suprise me. I think nintendo has the right idea and while im not a big console fan im actually considering it myself. WhiteKnight77
While I rarely venture over here, I found this enlightening as I found this today about the PS3 and it's poor sales record so far. 5 Reasons Why the PS3 Isn’t Selling PS2 is too strong. I think anyone will admit that the PS2 won the last console race and there are still great games being released for it so if you are a Playstation fanboy what reason do you really have to rush out and get a PS3 when you still have a very capable system and a huge collection of great games available? The Wii is simply better than the Gamecube through game mechanics and the Xbox 360 has been out long enough that if you are a Microsoft lover there is no reason to stick with the original Xbox besides to play games that aren’t backwards compatible. There is more to the article including about people choosing the Wii over the PS3 not to mention people are not really wanting Blu-Ray either. Nonsense. The PS2 sold because the PS1 was strong, not in spite of it. Infact, almost all of the 'must have' PS2 games when it first came out were actually ps1 games. I don't see why that should have changed. Still, interesting read, nice find.
FA sear
I say let Sony suffer. I have suffered with their poor customer sevice for years, and since 2000 I have not bought a single Sony product. I just don't like the way Sony treats their customers, and I for one could not care one bit what happens to them. Although I am not a Nintendo fan, I am glad to see that they are doing well. It certainly would be nice to see some more electronics manufacturers jump into the mix.
Rocky
I caught a gaming show on TV yesterday that was looking at next gen console titles for next year. Some of it looked amazing, there was one rally racer for the PS3 that looked absolutely photo realistic, stunning. There was also a winged serpant fighter sort of game for the PS3 that looked "alright", but - and get this - will only be available for HD tellys! jsonedecker
I'll throw in some of my loose change here...... I have said since major details of the PS3 came out that Sony could have just made a new and hugely improved rev of the PS2 in late 2005 and been in pretty good shape. Then they could have just ping ponged release schedules with MS and Nintendo and released the PS3 in 2008 or something. The PS2 had some serious power to it, but a few crippling, but major, deficiencies. For the cost involved they could have gave it 1gb ram, a built in HD, tweaked graphics "drivers" and most importantly better SW tools. They already had the manufacturing costs down as far as they were going to get and those few additions would have easily added another few years to it while they perfected the PS3. The PS2 totally sucked to develop for, but had a ton of raw power inside of it. -John
Sup
Speaking of RAM, it seems curios the PS3 has so little. Everyone in the game art business I've discussed it with says you have to be pretty careful with texture size when working on it, which seems counterintuitive on a lot of levels. Everyone in the game art business I've discussed it with says you have to be pretty careful with texture size when working on it, which seems counterintuitive on a lot of levels. Yeah, I know. You can even see it in some of the screen shots.... low texture resolution. Now, the 360 suffers as well, but it seems not as much. The PS3 has 512mb ram, but it is in 2 main chunks... VRAM (Framebuffer, geometry and textures) and Main RAM. I'm not 100% positive, but I *believe* that leaves only 256mb for your framebuffer (720p is a few mb), and all the stuff that needs to go to the GPU like textures and geometry etc..... The game and all it's code and supporting assets go into the other 256. Conversely, the 360 uses a unified pool of memory and the developer can balance things out as they wish. That is a simplistic explanation, but helps to show one of the major design differences between the two. Personally, I would much rather have a great looking game with nice crisp high res textures and good lighting than a lot of these coming out that have low res textures and cover everything up with chic post processing effects and crazy shaders. Try turning off all the effects and post processing on R6:Vegas and you'll see what I mean. Not knocking it, just using it for an example of the importance of texture memory. Yeah, you can definitely see the downsizing on Gears, and some other big 360 games, before they were released. That's a normal enough problem with consoles, though, isn't it? The PS3's issues seem a lot more detrimental, at the level they are. I definitely agree, anyway. More room for painted or photographic detail seems a lot more important than the limitless 'NEXT GEN' bloom/lensflare techniques the PS3 can surely run. Sup
Edit: according to game informer: The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted. I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over. Just say, This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it. The happy story is the Wii. I'm betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii has a larger installed base than the 360. Other people think I'm crazy. I really like everthing that Nintendo is doing. I take it you heard about the launch party in London - where they gave the first 100 people in the PS3 queue at midnight a special surprise gift - a 46" Sony Bravia LCD Telly, and the taxi fair home!
