PS3 HD issues!

Recommended Posts

All you owners of HDTVs that can only do 1080i, we've got some bad news for you. Sony Computer Entertainment America's head honcho of Corporate communications, David Karraker, apparently retracted -- or at least backtracked -- on Sony's previous statements about the increasingly infamous 1080i issue (the one that won't let PS3s play games at 1080i on HDTVs that don't support 720p). According to GameDaily, Sony cannot actually confirm this issue can be fixed via a firmware patch (although they're not denying it, either), and that they are "looking into the issue and haven't stated any actions that will be taken regarding it."

:o

How the hell does somehting like that get passed QC?

My HDTV does it all and plus i'm skipping the PS3 for afew years if not forever so it don't matter to much to me.

Yet i know afew people myself that have one of the HDTV's that are 480p/1080i sets. 2 of them got a PS3 and i just can't stop laughing that they paid $600 plus just to go back to 480p. Last i heard i think they both said they putting there PS3 on Ebay and staying with the x360!

Also RFOM devs reported that the hardware for upscaling is not in the PS3 and Sony is still yet to say if they ever going to do anything about it or even can do something. Is it to late or are they going to have to make as many games as they can to 1080i and forget about 720p/1080p altogther!? I may be mistaken, but from the way all the Sony Fans are cring even the 1080p games get down scaled to 480p on these HDTV sets instead of down scaling to 1080i.

Edit

Sorry i think i just learned the PS3 don't do 1080i altogther. So i guess that does mean anyone with a 480p/1080i set is only going to get 480p unless Sony can do some kind of update to support 1080i!

I have been on the sony forums a lot the last few years, mostly on the socom boards but I have followed the ps3 excitement for awhile and I must say there seems to be a lot of dissapointed fans, and of course those who are staying true to their system.

This 1080i issue is a huge deal on those forums. Another important issue that seems to be happening is that people are unable to play their ps3's on a lcd monitor using a hdmi to dvi adapter. That is one of the things that drew me towards the xbox 360 is that it could be played on a monitor. It is still early in the game for sony and who knows what they will be able to pull together but at this point I think they have swayed my decision towards getting a 360 even though I have to pay to play online. I just don't see a bright future for the ps3.

Thanks for the info dporter, I don't have time to visit other forums so its cool when folks bring such news here.

It does sound like a real bad day for Sony. What gets me is, if Sony can't get it right what chance does the consumer have? :wall:

To add more fuel to the fire, here is an interesting development at sony.

Kataragi removed from job in Sony Playstation management shakeup

I was really dissapointed when the xbox 360 had it's overheating problems but it seems as though that has been worked out. It's just scary to see these things happening at sony. It doesn't really give a buyer a lot of confidence to go buy their product.

I have a hard time even justifying the purchase of a $400 xbox 360 (which is why I'm waiting for a price drop). Most of the people that I know that own a ps3 were only able to get it because they got two and sold one on ebay to pay for the other. I just can't see the average consumer buying this equipment for that price tag. Don't get me wrong, it is a impressive machine with a lot of technology, but is it $200 better then the xbox 360? I would say no at this point.

Just another FYI. There have been several complaints coming out about the blue tooth controller recently and loosing control of your player for about 5 to 10 seconds during online gameplay. It only seems to happen when playing online matches so the theory has been the the wi-fi internet is disrupting the blue tooth signal but people have reported the problem when they have been connected both wireless and wired to the internet. What I mean by loose control of their character they describe it as trying to turn their guy another direction and he just keeps walking in a straight line, or all of the sudden people's characters have turned a complete 180. For someone like me who has no need for a blue ray player, I just can't see how this product is the one for me.
