I sent an email to UBISOFT

Recommended Posts

I sent an email to UBISOFT about my dismay about their direction of popular franchises. my email went like this;

I've been a gamer of UBISOFT products such as Ghost Recon: Advanced warfighter, Rainbow6 lockdown ,Splintercell all(but NOT double agent) and Ghost Recon (from 2001). As a gamer,I consider myself an investor in the sense of supporting UBISOFT by purchasing your games as well as those of other companies. I Game for recreation and relaxation. But lately I haven't been too thrilled with the choices made by UBISOFT in the direction your firm has gone about making games.

First, I'll start off with Ghost Recon from 2001. That game was new, fresh and innovative and REAL tactical. the modding community was like no other. then sometime in 2003, we got word that Ghost Recon 2 was in development for the PC. the entire community salivating at the chance to continue playing a game they loved. but sometime later, either that same year or the next, we got the rug pulled from underneath us and you pulled the plug on GR2(Ghost Recon2) for what ever reason without an explaination. This really upset a community who WERE ready to buy the game and continue the fun.

Next Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter(GRAW). this game released under alot of fanfare and people such as myself upgraded our PC's just for GRAW. we finally got the game and realised VERY quickly that the game had many flaws. lots of issues made themselves known mostly by multiplayer(MP) mode of gameplay and console feel of gameplay. fast forward 6 months today and we STILL have a game that is REALLY buggy and crashes consistently. I myself beta tested patches, looking for "issues" to bring to Grin/Ubisofts attention so they may be fixed. But as of today we are still waiting for news and release of GRAW patch 1.35. this game has been called a BETA due to it's incompleteness even still today.

Rainbow6 lockdown. This game is immediately known as a Console port from systems as Xbox, PS2 etc. this game franchise itself has been lost due to the gameplay and non tactical gameplay. People are certain as I am that this franchise is dead until you get it back to it's roots.

Splintercell franchise. this was known to be the last franchise of UBISOFT games that wasn't until the release of Splintercell double agent(SCDA) released. It is being said that SCDA is more incomplete than Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. filled with bugs and issues. Just read up in ubisoft forums and GR.NET, a respectable gaming community to see the displeasure of many about the game. Sure you'll find alot who love GRAW but you'll see more who are displeased and why. those who dislike GRAW do so generally under 2 reasons, 1) the loss of tactical gameplay and loss of it's roots from Ghost Recon(2001). 2) the console feel of the game. the graphics are nice but don't work for those who desire gameplay and replayability over pretty graphics.

I hope UBISOFT will finally head the words of the very customers who buy UBISOFT games as the crowd dwindles due to the feeling that UBISOFT has lost it's ability to turn out computer games.Who ever is in charge of making the decisions for UBISOFT in terms of what we like needs to be removed and open dialogue with your loyal fans needs to be established to bring back the masses who won't Buy UBISOFT titles anymore for these reasons.

Alot of PC Gamers are under the impression that we are becoming a dying breed. that we are being forgotten to console games. we would like to enjoy the games we have in the past. but UBISOFT seems headed in a wrong direction in this regard. What works on a console, doesn't work on the PC. PC's offer more horsepower and the gamers want more "tactical" when it comes to "tactical first person shooters."

Finally, we also need better game products. we need games that are complete and don't need more patches a half year after release. I'm asking for whoever is calling the shots for UBISOFT in terms of what we want to be removed as this person(s) have/has no clue what the true tactical gamers want. Ask us, we'll be glad to help out.

Sincerely,

Chris Jackson

I don't know what to expect but i felt i had to say something. this may get ignored, it might not, but something had to be said. I hope some sane minded person will see this and look at GR.net and ubi forums to see that things aren't roses that come from UBISOFT

For the Ubi side, you can't espect more than one guy reading the mail, and press delete after. In the best case scenario, it will be get to some manager or something inside Ubi's HQ, and make this guy rethink about clancy's franchise.

But, i hope more and more letters like this in the near future, showing to Ubi the real facts of what happends when they don't listen to the community, what feelings and :wall: people gets after some bad supported game.

If i get the enought time, i will write out myself about my toughts of what they were doing since they have take developing of buyed franchise, as r6 or gr.

Keep it going.

Also, making the same to Grin isn't a bad idea. Remember, still no linux ded server files yet.

how about you post what email you sent that too and make up a standard template letter and then we can all insert our own personal words, ideas, and complaints into it and pass it along. This is the biggest unofficial Ghost community out there. If they got several hundred emails from us alone not counting the rest of the world it might actually make it somewhere

Good idea, a pro-active response to your issues on the current style of gameplay marketed by the publisher.

Another idea, while too late for most of us (and those who will never ever buy UBI again(?)), is to check the "yes" box signifying willingness to accept E-mails, questionaires, etc., from the publisher during the registration process.

A week before the beta-test for 1.30 I recieved a 10 page questionaire from Ubisoft that was seeking input on what type of gamestyle players were looking for. I posted this sometime later with some of the most telling questions contained within it.

Why games suck?, could it be?

That the publishers ask for responses to questions like these in their questionaires...

All the time Most of the time Sometimes Hardly ever Never

I like to play games that are set in a fantasy world

I like to play games that let me show off to others.

I like to play games where I don't have to think very much.

I like to play games that provide instant gratification.

I like to play games that aren’t very complex.

I like to play games that have a lot of fantasy elements in them.

I like to play games that are like watching a movie.

I like to play games that aren’t too open-ended.

I like to play games that are really simple.

I like to play games that remind me of a action-packed Hollywood movie.

I like to play games that are easy to pick up and play.

I like to play games in which I can play famous movie or TV characters.

I like to play games that don’t have a lot of violence in them.

I like to play games where you follow a path.

I like to play games that don’t try to be too realistic.

I like to play games that have celebrities in them.

I like to play games that make me feel better about myself.

I like to play game where we’re not trying to beat each other all the time.

I checked Never for all of these. Problem is, others are able to check All the time.

If we don't get involved in the initial process of a games development (other than posting wish-lists before and complaints later in a 3rd party forum) we really can't expect the dream game to materialize.

Just a thought.

Great ideas guys. i think if UBISOFT would react to a slew of emails, meaning everyone write an email to UBISOFT someone would have to see there's something going on. But if we all went an email that could be hundreds or even thousands and that would get more attention then if we all made one. the email address i sent it to is;

ir@ubisoft.fr

although it's for the investor relations, it's the only email i could find after hours and hours of searching. if someone knows of a better one, please share that here. then we can hit it up with emails.

we can get more of a response from alot of emails than just one collaborated effort.

well a good thing can come out of this, 1) they'll change (however unlikely) and get the games back to what they were or 2) They'll ignore us all and thenwe know where we stand.

I'll get a hold of Rocky by PM on this.

Added:

I bet that will give them a good laugh at the ubisoft office.

erm perhaps mate. but only people who've reacted or took action get results in life. :rocky: be it good or bad

What would be a better department to send an email to? I've managed to find several ubisoft email addresses and could probably help get a petition to the proper area.

Send it to all of them.

I think that a mass email, signed by everyone would get the attention of someone for sure.

Someone could start a thread, and everyone would post his own email address in there, and one generic email would be sent with all email addresses bellow.

I'm hoping and praying ubi wont ruin the R6 franchise with Vegas, since I have high hopes for it.

I agree with you 100%. I am almost at the point that I will never buy another UBI product again. GRAW is so full of bugs it isn't funny. UBI support is absolutely useless. I am stuck on ver 1.06 because my D2D version cannot take any updates. I am fed up paying for crap.
