Nutlink
what kind of a stupid lame topic is this!?! I think it's supposed to be more of a "what if GRAW was as good as everyone hoped and then some" kind of thought. If GRAW met the expectations of the community would people be willing to pay for a monthly subscription.
[99]-RedBravo
Why should I pay twice for a product that still doesn't cut the mustard? it still cuts the cheese once in awhile...does that count
NoQuarter
If they were actually to consider something like a subscription, they should just refine the mod tools once and offer them and the SDK as a one time purchase for say 80 - 100.00 through a download service off of UBI.com. Of course a TON of modders will be all up in arms for having to pay for the tools that have traditionally been provided free of charge in many past games. Well considering the hoops that modders currently have to jump thru I think that there would be a few takers of a standalone SDK. First on the block and all of that. Well, i for one hope that something happens so we can all be completely happy with the games we play. Maybe pay modders... Be careful what you wish for. I would hate to see (in an effort to offset the cost of above) the advent of Pay Per Map/Mod. That smells of capitalism.
Batic
what kind of a stupid lame topic is this!?! Yes and No, No because this game in my experience, is a standard quality game: ei, Its got all kinds of bugs and missing features. And Yes in a way because I wasn't here before the latest patch though, so keep that in mind, but looking at just a few of the patch notes, it looked like they were mostly addons. I see the same bugs, some things are very polished, others aren't. But my point is that all STANDARD AAA titles have problems, and this is what im talking about, basically sending more money to devs in some way IF they are willing to support the desires of the playing public. It seems sure based on this thread, game companies are going to have to show us the goods BEFORE gamers are going to pay dev bills. Im also running under the assumption that GRIN has maybe 2 or so people still working on GRAW, but thats just a guess. I'm guessing there all working on GRAW2 mainly. A 3D engine coder is one expensive dude to have hanging around working on a title which isn't making money. On the other hand, they are marketing the game on the new 8800 fan, so im not sure what their plans are. This article caught my eye from Blues News, is about consoles, but it has everything to do with what im talking about. FI_FlimFlam
FlimFlam Well, i think single player would be very tough, if not impossible, unless it played perfectly, such that no other game could touch its features and gameplay. But how would it be possible to satisfy the broad range of peoples desires? Thats what i mean about moddability, its the requirement for an individual game to satisfy the whole spectrum of players, without charging 200 up front per game. With mods, LIKE-MINDED people with the time and know-how re-create parts of the game with your preferences in mind. <SNIP> btw: how much would you pay for your ultimate game? I don't disagree with you about moddability of a game to appeal to a broader game taste. But you have to admit, the base game has to appeal to the person purchasing it. The number of people who would purchase a game to not play it out of the box but for the mods is very very small. That is why a subscription service with little or no playable content would never work. Sure some modders will pay for it, but that is an extremely small number of people and would never pay for the infrastructure alone for the service it's self not to speak of the salaries of the dev's. If all that is included with the subscription is basically mod tools, then there is the aspect of paying a subscription to be able to play community developed mods and maps. That wouldn't sit well with me either especially because then I'm paying a company for the privlidge to play maps made by someone not working for them. I have no Quality Assurance on the map or mod whatsoever to speak of so the quality could just be crap, a bug ridden pile or a decent one. It's a crapshoot and I'm going to have to pay for that. No thanks.
Fletch
btw: how much would you pay for your ultimate game? When games came out that I thought they were asking to much for I refused to buy them till they hit the bargin bin. But the most I want to spend if I know for sure the game is it, $50.00.
