Crash Problem <split moved>

THIS THREAD SPLIT AND MOVED TO RELEVANT FORUM. Rocky.

I have been away from playing PC games for a while. Got hooked with Call of Duty 2 and Brothers In a Arms.

I was totally stoked on the high quality, crisp resolution, Audigy high quality sound etc.

So I was fearless of jumping into the PC gaming Band wagon and decided to try GRAW and for what it was.

After running zillin times Antivirus, Spywares, stopping services, endless hours in the eventvwr, msconfig, cmd...

I tell you my PC could have won Updated PC of the Year, Windows updates, GRAW, patches, BIOS updates, GPU updates, back to back teardown PC cleaning from dust etc etc.

After precious moments in front of the screen decided to seat down and enjoy crashfree GRAW, well after all this updating thing I sure deserve one mission crash free, but for what?

3 minutes later with a hot cup of coffee in hand and phones disconnected the fabulous black screen was in front of me again.

Impossible, cant be, no way, thats crap!!! What? What? The scene from Office Space where the clerk slams the computer desk against the floor flashed faster than an Intel Core Duo 6700.

"Hell with it"... fresh clean install, XP drivers and all this time, but 5 hours later the black screen AGAIN, YEs AGAIN!!

Advanced is the many times the game crashes, advanced is hoe lame this game is in the middle of 2006 I got to take all this crap. A useless game indeed, it may be pretty, but it sure does not run effciently.

LAstly, I could not blame it on the computer, on the tool behind the mouse so I went and played for a few hours Quake 4, Rainbow Six and Call of Duty 2... Fabulous games, happiness, the light at the end of the tunnel, the only reason why my PC is not still in the trashcan and I have not retired from PC gaming. As for GRAW, very poor engineering, a game that was never totally revised and developed to its full potential.

By the way, now I have to go to a shrink to remove a brainwash I went thru when in one of tyhe missions the soldiers, would say non-stop, Wait I have to reload, reloading, wait I have to reload, reloading,

What about shooting the enemy 4 feet away and hearing no shots. Tanks that dont follow instructions, helos that dont crash, tires that go flat whenever they want to, soldiers looking against the wall after shots fired, etc.

Sept. 3rd 2006 is not resurrecting a thread. Even the oldest ones are a few months...

Like always the typical admin wannabe with useless replies.

I read the thread and does not state in specifics and many just cover fragments of it.

Dont feel bad I talk trash about the game.

I am not trying to look for hints on how to finish a specific mission.

The game crashes all the time the moment I reach El Palacio Nacioanal. I decided to choose this thread for your information because this thread is about that mission. The forum must have many other threads, so far admin have no issues, the thread has NOT been resurrected, last post is barely one month old.

Please dont mess up the thread with a useless argumant.

The game is lame, it may have awesome graphics, but it sucks in engineering development. I will contact Ubisoft to see if the will give me my money back or another copy of GRAW. Its BS that I have to see my less than 5months old computer crash.

It has all the updates, even a geek friend passed by to double check, the system has the lates patches from XP, GPU, BIOS and GRAW...

Norton Antivirus and internet was disabled to see if maybe that would help a little. Installed an extra fan in the motherboard to run extra cool. I know how to play, in fact I shot down the helo with bullets, no ZEUS etc. Find plenty of ammo, I make it to the Palacio with 5 cartriges after picking up in the Plaza. Once inside the building it crashes all the time.

:wall:

And I opened an account to discuss how lame the game is, any questions?

First off, welcome to the site. :)

Secondly, the purpose of this thread is to discuss problems or ask for help with this particular mission.

Finally, you are free to voice your displeasure about the game, but it would be helpful if it was in one of the other threads about how lame the game is. This is what Nutlink was trying to say.

I reached this thread to find some light on the issue.

I put down what I have done so as to not stumble into the same useless fixes.

Users blame it on spyware, others on RAM, patches, GPU performance.

What other thread you want me to use than the one who is about this mission.

I am stuck on that mission and is because it crashes EVERYTIME. I did a Google search and stumble into this.

Well, I am new this forum which I dont need the friendly approval or friendly replies from everyone to be part of it..

If you have a solution for this insanely bad bug for GRAW, please HELP?!?

Its like reading a Clive Barker book and the last chapter is written in COBOL...LOL

hmm black screen... let me take a stab at it... you have one of the FX (5000) series Geforces by chance?

There shader 2.0 is limited and not compatible. When you start mission you will get a black silloette but not be able to see anything?

We need system specs to help you and if it actually crashes, reboots the pc or shuts the monitor off.

System specs would be

#1 Processor

#2 how much ram

#3 Video card (very important for GRAW)

#4 DVD or CDROM? Burner?

#5 Sound card (onboard, audigy, xfi?)

#6 if you don't know these, the model # of your branded computer.

Thanks.

It would help if instead of going on about all of the negitives you find in GRAW to narrow it down to the specific problem/crash that you are experiencing and are seeking assistance for (if that was the intent of your post). The more information you can provide the better, there are alot of variables to consider.

Another thing you might want think about is that if you intend on posting in a similar manner in the future...

Well, I am new this forum which I dont need the friendly approval or friendly replies from everyone to be part of it..

that others may respond in kind.

Prescription lapse?

First off, its a GeForce 6800...

I have played all the game almost to the end. I have completed all missions with no glitch issues.

Glitches:

- sometimes the soldier stays on a loop saying "I got to reload"

- When shooting there is no sound from the weapon. Sounds like if it is very distant when in fact I am shooting close quarters inside a bunker (for example).

- At some points the game is grainy and is not in the scrambler missions.

The glitch that bothers the most is it crashes on Fierce Resistance a lot.

The computer was reformat complete, fresh install to cross out virus, spyware issues.

Its an XPS 400

2.8 Ghz

1 Gg of RAM

160 Gb SATA

Digital flat screen, 19 inch 1907 model

I did all the patches offered by GRAW, updated BIOS, XP, GPU drives...

Its a Creative external sound card, it crashes so I decided to use the internal one and it crashes as well.

So it does not matter if it is 2.1 or 5.1 internal or external

I have BIOS A06 for XPS 400 Intel Chipset 945 family.

All other games run fine, Quake 4, BIA, Half Life 2, etc...

So far the game is gathering dust cause I cant complete it do to the bug.

What type of crash is it; you've stated that you are looking at a black screen, can you still hear the game in progress and access the game controls ( a video freeze), or is it a hard lock-up or CTD?

If it is a video freeze this may help...

Other users have reported similar issues that were resolved by adding another gig of memory, if you have the slots (and/or the willingness) to upgrade your system, that is a possible solution. XP Pro and GRAW will tax 1GB system memory heavily.

One note (and unrelated to your problem); the patches from 1.16 upward are cumulative so if you should have to re-install in the future all you need to do is run the most recent.

Good luck!

Its a crash that while I am playing it a black screen will show up.

Yes, I can still hear the game in the background, but is totally black.

XP seems to fall in Safe Mode because the Display settings fall into 256 or 16 colors something like that.

In eventvwr states GRAW.exe had an application error.

Once the black screen is shown and the sound of the game is in the background quickly shows the window SEND, DO NOT SEND report to microsoft bla bla ...

I click no and once I am on my desktop the RAM according to MEMINFO is on 990 on the red zone.

It seems to me something on the game is sucking up RAM besides just the regular graphics because; why didn't it happened from the beginning of the game. Other games are very demanding like COD2 and Quake 4 and I dont face those issues.

Like if something in the programming just eats up memory...

I am swapping for a new 7950 GPU so lets see what happens. If I upgrade in memory, Does it have to be in pairs or can just go up 512 MB of DDR?

Ahh issues are in single player then. Haven't played the campaign much so i'm not sure if i can help.

1gb of ram should be fine... what else is running with GRAW... if you are eating up that much ram there must be.

(check your task manager, processes and arrange them by memory

The 512 increase though will help. Is your 1GB dual channel (2 exact chips) If so your 512 should be bought as a kit as dual channel performs better then single.

:zorro:

Guess what?

I received my new video card NVidia 7950 GX2 and problem solved.

No more crashes and the MEMINFO does not peak to 990 like before. I played all the way to the black limousine and got shot... no crashes, no black screens!!!

So far the 7950 GX2 is silky smooth, clean crisp, no bouncy screens nor black screens.

Lets see if I can finish it today finally!

GRAW-THEEND.jpg

Awesome game after all the problems and frustration.

It leaves me with a sour feeling to keep playing it for hours and hours.

The issue was the video card, its strange because I did not have problems at the beginning.

Seems that the added helo and multiple scenarios was to much graphics for the GeForce 6800.

Now I want to see if I can play in teams etc etc...

I have never played it online with other people. How does it work?
