First weapon model

Recommended Posts

you got a point there, Argyll.

:wall::wall:

oke there will be one more model in the silent Warrior 3 mod, a mp5 with Aimpoint. all i really need to do for that model is to figure out how to make a scope mount for the aimpoint, give me a couple of days!

WOW!! how cool is this? Just to think almost 14 years ago i was sitting behind my pc thinking about trying to make my first weapon model. really awesome looking through this thread again after so many

The way I do it is to take the weapon view in 3dsMax that faces the weapon to the left. Under rendering/environment, set the background to solid white, and under global lighting, set the ambient and tint to solid black. When you render the scene, it will be a black silouette(sp?) against a white background. I save the render then edit it in Photoshop, trimming the canvas size as close to the weapon as I can to get the 3:1 ratio used by the kit icons. I then reverse the image to make it a white silouette on black. I then re-size the image to 54x18 pixels, and you know the rest.

BTW-I have some pics of a Holo mounted on an MP5 (courtesy Lancer) and the Aimpoint CompM2 model I made also is set on a HK-type mount. If you want the .max file and textures, let me know.

no i dont think so.... still working on it, but it looks like something i would make in my early days of modding. it would compromise the overall quality of the mp5 model.

You have come a long long way my friend good job

I admire those who have the patience to persevere. I uninstalled my copy of Max many many months ago - and I'm willing to bet I'm healthier for it as well. :shifty:

thanks Whisper_44, but i can't take full credit for this model, Lancer and Thumper1518 where so kind as to send me a copy of their Aimpoint model.

the mp5 is mine, but the Aimpoint is theirs and they deserve the credit for it, because it is beautifully done!

last night i activated the first model i made for GR and thought "OMG, it is so ugly.....God, i could change this and that"

but i am still amazed it has only been like half a year, if i had known then, modding was so must fun, i would have started back in the Rainbow Six days.

Like swartsz said, not mine. I haven't gone back on it for awhile, been designing some missions and stuff, so the 3D work is not for now. Besides 3DSM is acting funny with my weapon models, so I've kinda kept it on the downlow.

a little update to let you know the mod isn't dead or anything.

i am still working on the mod, currently finishing the Kit icons and after that i will start on finishing the MP part of the Silent Warrior 3 mod.

so give me a couple more weeks to finish it and i will release as soon as the Beta guys give the OK!

thanks Pantera,

all the advice i can give you is to take it slow, don't expect the be the greatest modeler within 2 weeks and look at other models from others modders and try to figure out how they did their stuff.

and like the old saying, practice makes perfect!

plus there are a lot of people who are willing to help you at any time, if you have a problem, just ask and there will always be someone with a answer.
