EricJ
Nice. @Chems: The gun looks nice, but does the remaining stuff remain solid? as it looks like a trigger when you look from the top left/right? And speaking of that BTW, how do you add an alpha layer? I'm starting to work on a project, and it's looking like it will come in handy. Chems
Ive never created one from scratch but I belive its quite easy. the priciple is the darker the colour the more see through it is, I think. So if its black thats see through, white is not see through.
Incubus
I can paint you a camo map if you want.
swartsz
thanks for the offer,Incubus, i will keep it in mind, but i really want to give it a try myself first, so when i get the hang of it i will be able to use it on other models. i made a bit of a mistake in a earlier post, the polycount with optimizing is 942. Ruin
What I would do for the camoed version Swartsz, is change the gun tog reyscale, adjust the brightness and contrast. And then use it as a layer that is overlaid or multiplied atop the camo. That'd make it look real good IMO. Leaving off the foregrip purely for aesthetic reasons. swartsz
tnx Ruin, will give it a try and off course i will show you the results right here!
swartsz
made some further changes to the 'woodland' camo for the mp5. toned it down a bit and used less camo on it. it even looks good in nightvision now. have a look and i going to leave it as it is right now, next up i will be making / texturing the 'plain' mp5 and M4, a desert version of the M4 and i going to try and make some tactical goodies to put on the weapons. @ Ruin, thank you for explaining me your camo techniques, getting some good results for the desert camo. Raven[BAD]
That camo looks a lot better Swartsz. Nice..
swartsz
this is a bit off topic, but i think you will like this, the last couple of days a lot of people have been asking for high res M4 pictures for textures. i found a little gallery with high res M4 and other pictures, hope this will help. http://www.pbase.com/batman/aegs Edited May 14, 2003 by swartsz
swartsz
work on the camoed and uncamoed Mp5s has finished. desert versions of the mp5 and the M4 will follow soon, i hope!
Aggressor
The weapons look great swartsz. Will you be releasing the new guns along with your M4's? The tactical attachments on the weapons would be sweet.
swartsz
tnx Aggressor, both the M4 and the mp5 will be in the Silent Warrior 2 mod. The tactical attachments on the weapons would be sweet. ah, yes. the tactical attachments, well whatever i seem to make, a flashlight or a laser or something, they just not turn out the way i want them to. so i will be working on them but will only attach them to the weapons if i can get them right. swartsz
Have a look at the newest edition for the Silent Warrior 2 mod, the desert M4. the texture was made by Incubus, for which i am very grateful. all that is left to do is to open up the ejection port. Incubus
It's looking good. I still think the camo is a bit overpowering, and washes out some of the detail of the gun. If only the game could render it as nice as 3D Studio. Hopefully the MP-5 will look a little cleaner. I think I might go play around in Photoshop some more with the M-4, and see if I can bring out the details in the gun.

JTF-2
well, their might be a better way but... 1. make a n-gon with 8 sides. extrude it to the length you want. 2. to create the rails just make rectangles and place them on the n-gon at the top, bottom, and sides. but the real trick with these things is having a REALLY good texture...and maybe Alfa blending for the holes? hope that helps. PS, can you post a pic of the DOAR? it sounds interesting. Edited May 20, 2003 by JTF-
swartsz
tnx JTF. here is a pic of the DOAR, i am not sure it is officially called the DOAR, basicly it is just a modified M4. i am making it like it in pic, but with a integrated suppressor. ( maybe you will remember, there was one in one of UO mods of the DTD team, my favo weapon in those days )
swartsz
here is the first picture of my model of the DOAR. as always it is still a work in progress, but i just wanted to show it to you guys and gals polycount at the moment is
swartsz
made some changes and added stuff like the vertical handgrip and the handguards. please let me know if you see anything i should change.
JTF-2
looks really good. The only minor thing I would do is make the forward grip a little thicker.
swartsz
@ JTF, already ahead of you changed a little bit, hope this is more to your liking. new polycount: 864 Edited May 22, 2003 by swartsz
Chems
Well my way of doing this funny thing would be to draw the end shape you want with line tool. Extrude it to your length then make cyclinders going through were you wnat holes and then boolean it, easy.
swartsz
tnx Chems, have been trying different things with the boolean tool, it looks great but on the other hand it really raises the polycount. so i am not sure i will use it or try to solve it with the texture.
