oh noes need some help

Recommended Posts

ok well, i dled the demo just then, then bought the game 2days ago  and i found out it hardly runs half decently....and im kinda angry that i spent $50 on a game i cant play to well, im thinkin is there some sort config that reduces graphic settings? that i can use to increase 50 fps, this game has got some hope for me, now my computer specs are as follows:

Nvdia 6600 graphix card (AGP so u know)

1gb ram

3.0 Ghz pentium 4

thats really all you guys need to know?

i know im a really smart person by buying the game then downloading the demo >_< can i be pointed into a direction where i can increase fps? (EVERYTHINGS down all lowest as possible) or something else...

and whenever i start up the computer my graphix card gets an error, its happened from the very begining when i got the computer heres the error:

To protect your hardware from potential damage or causing a potential system lockup, the graphics processor has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operations.

as i see it there it says something is either not connected in my video card to wherever its connected to in the computer? because if its lowered its performence then i guess if it fixed itself my fps would give me the boost to make it playable  does anyone know how to fix that error and make my video card run normaly, or do i find some sort of config to make the game run smoother.

thanks for your time.

Dont wish to dissapoint you, but i dont think you're going to see 50 fps with that set up, I'm running an x800xt AGP overclocked with 2.5gb ram and AMD64 3400 and only get about 30fps....mind you i am running everything on high at 1024 x 768 but it seems smooth enough for me and it's still a great game.

Have you overclocked card ? cant seem to hurt trying (but only if its well cooled)

Have fun.

I had a GeForce 6600 with 256 MB of vidRam and 1 gig RAM with an AMD 3000+. Game ran fine. Not everything on high. Alot on medium. That is why I upgraded to a GeForce 6800 XT, 512 vid RAM and another gig of RAM. Game runs on high in everything. And, my video card is AGP. :)

Upgrading your video card would be a good idea. The 6600 series is fast becoming obsolete for newer games. If possible, I'd look for a 7600GS or, even better, 7600GT. Those cards are fairly good, and relatively cheap. Oh, and their both available in AGP as well :)

Here is the 7600GT

And the 7600GS

Screw the 7800GTX, go with 7950GT's if you have the money for SLI.

Save up and beg Santa GRAW for a new PCIe mobo w/ twin 7800GTX cards. Then you should pop the proverbial smoke like no one's business on this game.

FTR though, I'm running 2 6800GT's with 2GB RAM and a 4200+ dual-core AMD. No problems running medium to high details and resolution with smooth gameplay, but when it was a single 6800GT... well, that was a fish of a different color...

Update the driver and save your pennies.

ok thanks for all the help :D buying a new video card sounds good, i bought this computer roughly as year ago, and the 6600 was about $300 o_O so........i have $320 at the moment, im 14 and work at maccas XD so i can save up a few bob for a new vid card, how much would the "PCIe mobo w/ twin 7800GTX cards" be? they sound good ^.^ how much roughly would the motherboard cost and the cards ???? thanks for the help :D oh, and how do i install new drivers? its really weird, i don't know which driver to download, i don't know how to install it but when i do install a driver does it overwrite the old driver? im really confused about that, cna anyone show me which driver to download, and how i install it? thanks :D

Go to your control panel, then add/remove programs. Look for the nVidia display driver and uninstall it. After you uninstall it, then download the new drivers (link below) and install those. Voila, new drivers :)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.47.html

And I still think you'd be better off either staying with AGP and getting a 7600GT or getting a whole new computer.

My SLi setup is getting around 50-60 FPS when there are no moving vehicles or explosions happening, and I don't think I've seen it drop below 23 in even the hardest physics. Mind you, that's with a grand total of 512 video memory, and the program only recognizing half of that.

Marky, the PCIe mobo thing was more of a joke, as you're talking around $1k for the whole shebang installed. With what you say you've got in your wallet right now ($320?) that 7600GS should be a snap. I saw them on the shelf earlier today at Best Buy for the mid $200's, and you should easily be able to snatch the likes from Ebay for less than $200 even. Your AGP mobo should still pretty easily support a pretty sweet rig for this game, as mentioned above by other players. So...

What else have you got in the background while GRAW is running? When's the last time you did a full-system virus scan? Do you have any good spyware/spamware protection, like SpySweeper or something? Are you running any P2P filesharing software (even if it's OFF while playing GRAW) like KaZaA or LimeWire?

Maybe you're already knowledgeable on this stuff, but maybe not. No offense if you are. But GRAW is pretty intense on the CPU, so anything else you've got running (ESPECIALLY if you're on a single-core processor) is gonna slow the game down BIGTIME. CLEAN is the name of the game here. Be sure you're superCLEAN next time you fire-up GRAW, and you SHOULD be able to have a decent run at it. Nothing stellar with that card, but playable at least...

That's bad news. I'm not as familiar with LimeWire as with KaZaA, suffice it to say that LimeWire DESTROYED (I mean physically damaged beyond economical repair) a Toshiba laptop I used to have merely 32 days after I bought it. I DO know that KaZaA uses some really sneaky (read: trojan horse) stuff to put all the 'GAIN' ads on your computer. In the EULA for it, it states that the only means of removing the GAIN adware is to uninstall KMD, however even two weeks after uninstalling KMD the GAIN stuff was still there, and I had to format C: to get rid of it. **Even Symantec AV and SpySweeper couldn't pick-up the TH virus that was giving me all the GAIN stuff.** I suspect LW to be much the same.

If you absolutely MUST have P2P filesharing stuff, I'd at least recommend you keep it on a separate partition on your computer and isolate that partition from the rest of the system. Of course, setting that up is well out of my limited scope of computer knowledge. Good Luck!

Unless limewire has changed, it's full of ads and only 2nd to kazaa in the amount of mess it creates... unless you have a lite version. drop lime and look for ares.

also run ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com personal edition) and spybot search and destroy.

Neither should be ran while gaming as p2p programs are resource and bandwidth hogs.

LimeWire wants you to THINK it's not actually running, but in fact it IS. Clean-up the system registry and startup. If Windows doesn't need it to start up properly, then neither do you. Also, if you've got a newer HP printer installed, be sure to shut off the HP Imaging Center (corporate-sponsored spyware at its best there, I tell ya... last HP I buy...). It's crap anyhow, all you need are the drivers.
