Gamespy req. for Internet?

My original intention was to setup a game and have a friend or two join my game over the Internet, but to not use some third-party server. Is this not possible with PC GRAW? I do not wish to hold public games, and the idea of holding a LAN party with a bunch of 35-50 men just isn't worth it when they are spread around Atlanta. lol Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Hamachi. You can set up a virtual private network with your friends and play a "LAN" game.

Otherwise, host an online game, password it, and if your computer is beefy enough you should be able to play and host a few others at the same time.

Thanks for the information. Actually, I thought I was going to be forced to install some silly gamespy software, but that wasn't the case. We did exactly what you suggested (password it) and it worked fine. Having spent so much time on the 360 version, the PC version was a lot of fun!

How beefy does the computer need to be ??? I'm also intrested in playing coop with a mate but i've only got a computer that runs GRAW ok (and his is no better).....its not like i have processor power to spare! can i use an older computer as the server or must it be the one with the game installed?

Are there any threads with the idiots guide to setting up a private server and getting a coop game going ?

To the best of my knowledge you cannot use a dedicated server to co-op missions, but you can do [GR] style co-op.

Theres no official system requirements for the dedicated server, but it is CPU and RAM intensive as it does all the same physics calculations. Basically you're looking at at least an athlon 64 or intel equivelant, and 1 to 2 gigs of Ram depending on how long you need it to run stable =)

I personally have an older Athlon 2600+ box I use for whatever dedicated server my friends want to play that night, be it OFP, GR1, etc. It does GRAW stand alone server OK but not great. It constantly pegs the CPU at 100% and hits the harddrive like crazy...

I haven't tested this yet but look at the server_shared (it has to be run as standalone to use this... note the bold

Change it to false.. it think this will prevent detection on gamespy. Now what you have to do is add the ip address of the server to your favorites.

This should work for OGZR Co-op

If you can't run a seperate standalone, then i would suggest just passwording it.

AMD X2 3800

2 gig ddr (4x512)

Geforce 7600 GT silent

4 mb down 1 mb up ADSL internet
