DAZZA
I think the rule, "no spawn till everyone is ready" is good, those peeps with uber machines and lightning quick connections obviously have a greater advantage if they spawn before everyone else. Take BF2 for example, half the flags are capped before some poor fella with a lesser spec spawns. My problem isn't the unfairness with different connections and machines. My problem is that some guys got better aim than I. Guess what, life's a ######. But it is far better to play GRAW than setting in the GRAW lobby with 20 peeps waiting for the single someone finishing his dinner or whatever. I fully understand where you're coming from, but you must understand where I'm coming from also I think the "vote kick" is more than adequate to resolve your issue, don't you? If my memory serves me correct [GR] wouldn't start also until everyone was ready and sometimes the same issue you've explained would arise. It was a simple vote kick that sorted that I also think in [GR] the map wouldn't start until all peeps had successfully connected/loaded resolving the issue I explained
Peace
If my memory serves me correct [GR] wouldn't start also until everyone was ready and sometimes the same issue you've explained would arise. It was a simple vote kick that sorted that [GR] had the optional Auto-timer that got the game going a feature that was usually left enabled on dedi- servers Vote kicks are never simple because they are time consuming and normally require several attempts before somebody is kicked successfully... NOTE The issue with afk:ers keep popping up all the time proving that there is a problem in GRAW. There was a detailed thread in the beta forum about this and suggestions to solutions to this problem, but GRINs never responded. Roco has posted one simple solution to the problem: make the length of count down timer from when 2 players are ready to game launch customizable, Presently set to 5 sec, but if 20 or 30 sec it could act as a 'auto-timer'. Note it would have to affect the spawn (1st) at game launch only or Introduce an optional autotimer (visible) that (when reaching zero) launches the game for those that have xed up. Pretty much the same as above but allows perhaps more flexibility. In both solutions, the forced spawn setting (which is something different) will then force spawn afk:ers into the game. Permanent afk:ers can then be dealt with as usual...(vote kick, or afk auto-kick?) The important thing is the game gets going and that is what we want... But the kick limits are so harsh that you couldn't get him kicked with people not knowing what to do when voting, some obstructing the kick, some ignoring the vote, and some taking a dump or coffee waiting for the game to kick in. Better to have the game started and kick people who stands in spawn whit pistol only. (Those who are dead can easily take some time administer that). BPR_MiK
Thanks for the feedback so far everyone! It really helps a lot. The no. 1 server did crash yesterday There is a small programe called firedeamon that will automatically start any programe up whenever it crashes..You have to pay for it if you want it full time but get a 30 day trial..This might be usefull for the test servers ?? jessejames
Hi people, Some info for you who have been helping us. The server did go down again today. As you know by now we are doing some testing with a really slow server, so basically all circumstances are extremly bad (I've even put the lights out in the server room ). This helps us find some issues. We might put a server up again today for some more testing, I'm not sure. We will definately put one up sometime tomorrow though, most likely around noon (CET). BPR_MiK; thanks for the tip, but unfortunately we can't use this when debugging.
Chrome
JesseJames, If you need a faster server (or different platforms to do some comparisons) to test, I am offering up a server for GRIN's use in the US (full access). Being a long time GR player and also supporting several GRAW teams now, it obviously is in our interest to help this process. If you are interested (no strings attached), please contact me off-list and we can work out your needs. Thanks for all your hard work James Crooker Primary Target www.primarytarget.com james (at) primarytarget.com

jessejames
No Sui, it didn't crash actually. Although the laptop that was remote debugging the server did go into hibernation. This testing session is now over. Thank you all who's been participating, helping out us devs and having fun at the same time. We will let you know when we can use a helping hand again. That's it for now. GRIN out.
