EricJ
Carrying Zoomed/Scope View Judging from the pics of me doing the anims, it's more "pulled" back rather than "raised" as normally, it should be I guess. If it helps, not sure, but gives an idea since you are using the SCAR-L anims anyways. That's one reason why the EOTech doesn't work. SnowFella
Doesn't really help all that much unfortunately, as it seems for the model to be able to use the eotech it needs to have some certain animations "set" for it. Right now, after adding some stuff for testing, I'm back to square one again with crashes everytime I bring up the commandmap. Oh well, least this thing is but a test and the final will have it's very own setup.
EricJ
Yeah as it seems there are some specific anims set up specifically of course for either scope types, but that can be only an assumption. Though it's really odd that GRIN didn't offer a wider range of scope options in the first place, which would have solved some issues and made it of course easier. sui317
try the sniper scope anim maybe it is about the same height ?? don't know if you can switch anims and scopes seperately ? *ignore me if it does not make any sence *
SnowFella
OK, I've now got time on my hands to delve further into this little project and have started remodeling selected parts of the M4 to look better ingame. After some struggles with 3dsm, and one crash that cost me about an hours work, here's the latest look of it. Forgotten is the CQBR...and it's now a full length M4 instead. Still have to add in some detail to the M203 launcher before I'm satisfied with the model and can move onto the texture.

Matter of fact it acted weird, but may be due to it actually being a scope anim... which really didn't work too well. I think the anim has to move it "down" for it to line up correcly. THen again it may be just the resolution and screen. Mig1, who added the EOTech to the SCAR-L, said he had no problems, but I never have gotten it to work unfortunately, so I'm not sure. Looking good SnowFella
SnowFella
Well, looking through the animation files there acctually seems to be evidence that a 3rd sight was planned for the SCAR's as I'm finding references to more than just the now usable ironsights and combatsight. I'm going by memory right now as I'm not at my own computer but in the ghost_machine_scarl.xml file there's reference to first scar_ironsight, then scar_combatsight and something named scar_scope. As for the Eotech, at the moment (and near future)I'm holding off from even trying to get it working as I'll be to busy getting the M4 model finalised and textured aswell as figuring out the intricacies of new attachments. But if Mig indeed got the Eotech working properly it should just be a matter of checking how he did it and duplicate that.
Viper
Very nice indeed, it's a testament to one's skill when you can make a model that looks that good without a texture. Only (small) gripe ... where's the mag release on the left side of the receiver? Should be a cut-out for it ... I cannot wait to see her textured Clark
Danish1705
woohoo..the most wanted weapon of all M4A1 good job snowfella...cant wait to get my hands on it once u done with it. good job dude
SnowFella
@Viper: The mag release on the left side will be textured on with either just the colour map or also normal mapped onto the reciever, although it is in an area that won't really be seen from a 1st person perspective. I've been doing some simple normal map tests here today with a new KAC M4QD suppressor model...not yet perfect but it's slowly getting there....pretty reasonable results as it's the first time ever I'm playing around with normal maps. scope
Nice work on the M4, will be a great mod when its finished, kudos to you SnowFella! Any chance of an L85A1 mod in the future? Would go great with the British Army skin mod =p
SnowFella
Well....an L85A1 is out of the question but it's remotely possible that I in the future could add an L85A2 but that would all be depending on if the already done animations will work with it. After all I do already have the below model made and collecting dust on the harddrive

scope
Another problem is that the animation to change the mag is for the SCAR's etc not for bullpup rifle. Can you mod the animations? Suppose you could maybe use the animatio for the MR-C? LSW would be pretty cool too =p.

Even modding a weapon already in-game causes issues to an extent, so no offense man, but it's not as cut and dried as people might want to think. SnowFella knows his crap, so if it's slowing him down, n00bs like me can't help but just hope he gets it.

After all I do already have the below model made and collecting dust on the harddrive I'm just surprised that they(GRIN) haven't even commented on how to line up sights or import new character animation into the game. At this point, we all have fairly educated guesses on how it works, but the modding process with GRAW is so slow, it can be a pain to actually test things, lots of crashing. They did provide a character rig, but no refrence poses or tuts on what to export/import as far as I can tell. It could be the whole rig, or just parts of the rig. It is more complex then most games since they're doing the whole body and not just the arms with a camera. There are not too many "fakes" in this game, which can be both good and bad. I suppose I should just sit down and try some thing but it sure would be nice to have an outline of what does what. Swat4 had a pretty good tutorial covering the entire process. Still left you with holes and questions, but at least it covered the entire process. Nice L85 though, looks great. ps. if anyone from GRIN is reading this. a max 8 exporter would be nice as it supports fbx better then previous versions. makes going between apps a lot easier. pz3
Oh well, shouldn't take me all to darn long to finish that last weapon. I've got the high LOD about 70% textured now and just need to make 2 additional LOD's. And I've got the setup for the M4 more or less finalised on paper, in the end run I ought to be having something along the lines of this. Using the Aimpoint for sight currently as I can't figure out how to get the Eotech to work fully. just realised somthing... add a top rail cover to everything but the 203 and suppressor. Should cover the top rail then
SnowFella
@Redstarsov: The scope is already made as you can see...so separating that from the rest of the model is a 2 second job. But as you say it's the animation for the scope that's the tricky part, aswell as the zoom....I could work around that by skipping the scope and doing a version with ironsights instead. But at this stage anything but the M4 is far off. @I've been thinking about that aswell mate, could also place a rail protector on the bottom rail to cut the need for modeled rails all together. I'll first test this thing and see how it runs ingame at it's current polygon count of 4200....I have had a weapon model of around 6500 polys ingame for testing without any noticable slowdown. SnowFella
I had some time to once again work on this thing and managed a smallish bit of progress. The KAC M4QD suppressor is ingame Although it's for the moment still mounted on my messed up M4CQBR instead of the newer M4A1 model that I'm working on. (Click for fullsize 1280x1024 screen) Now I just have to figure out how to make it work properly as it at the moment doesn't suppress either sound or muzzle flash. SnowFella
I've had a bit of a standstill for the last few days unfortuately as my computer went and crashed. All files are savely tucked away on a secondary drive though. Had to go through a complete format of my C: drive and haven't managed to get all my programs back in yet. And there's still a risk there was more to the crash than just my operating system....if a clean install doesn't fix it all I've either got a screwed CPU fan or a screwed motherboard
