Dick Splash 23
I watched a great ninety minute drama last Sunday on the History Channel, called 'Killing Hitler'. Based on files that were only released in 1998, this was a drama based on those facts, about the planned operation by SOE agents to assasinate Adolf Hitler. The drama moved from re-enactment to a group of 'experts' sat around a table. The drama ended with the obvious question being put to the experts; What would have happened if Foxley had been implemented and the assasination had have succeeded. The drama was nominated in the 2003 BAFTA awards for a best in History award. There are now, even as there were during WWII, fors and againsts as to whether the operation should have taken place or not and whether or not it would have succeeded. I found myself afterwards comparing Hitler with Saddam, as I'd read an article after the first Gulf War and how it implied that it was better to leave him in power. He may have been a tyrant, but at least he created some form of stability in Iraq. Better the devil you know, so to speak. Anyway, after doing some research I've discovered a few links that might interest; BBC - The Foxley Report: Plotters against Hitler Do read the part about the sniper! Operation Foxley: The British Plan to Kill Hitler A coloUr reproduction of the dossier containing the plans to assasinate Hitler. A Few Of The Documents BTW, if you're in the US you'll get a chance to see it this coming Saturday [19th] DS
