Diesel Plugin --> exporting

I'm having some problems trying to export a mesh using the diesel plugin.

I have one object parented to a root_point dummy. When I export the "scene," it says "Materials definition file for object not found; please select one." So, I put a materials.xml in the dir I'm exporting to, following this format:

<materials>

<material name="m4v2" src="diffuse">

<diffuse_texture file="mysweetgun_df"/>

</material>

</materials>

When I pick it, it contiues but fails and says "Export failed due to an unkonw exception"

Should it even be asking for a material? One other thing, I'm using Max8. I suppose that can be the problem, though I've used other Max"7" plugins with v8. Anyone using Max8 had any success or is this really the issue?

Is there a Max8 plugin coming? How bout a Maya 6, 6.5, or 7 one?

Bummer.

it's the wrong max version.. the plugin only works with max7 for now

Thanks for the confirmation. I was able to get a 30 day trial version of 7 last night. I exported the model, but it still asked for a material.xml, I used the one I had previously made. I edited the scar_L xml to test it out, but the game crashed on loading the mission. It was too late to experiment any further last night.

Is there any way to view the model without going through the game. Can you look at it in the map editor or something? Just trying to find a faster way to debug then going through the whole process and verify it exported as something useable.

The reason why the exporter complains about the materials.xml file not being found is because it needs it for optimization purposes. But you don't have to point the xml out, it should export fine anyway.

What is causing the unknown exception I don't really know... try unlinking the mesh and do a reset xform on it, relink it to the root_point and export again.
