For those of you who dont like GRAW

Recommended Posts

Ok, as was almost certainly a good choice on their part, the powers that be deleted my previous uh..... more 'forcefully' phrased post. So here is sort of the same thing, just worded vastly differently

Ok, basically I know a lot of you dont like GRAW. Personally, while I think the game itself is good, I dont actually 'play' it much because I think it lacks replayability, plus it doesnt run so well on my system.

But clearly my approach to the problem is different from many of yours. When I come onto this 'PC version' forum I suddenly feel a negative atmosphere, and it seems like the most posted in threads are those that either bash the game, bash GRIN or bash the bashers (and frankly while to some extent I agree with those bashing the bashers, please DONT).

So what I want anyone who considers themself open minded and interested in the future of the GR series to do right now-

Either-

A. Go help ToW-Angel and the rest on their Advanced Manual.

B. Get Nemon's bundle extractor, extract your bundle, and go get modding (and dont worry, its easy to learn, even I can do it and frankly I'm an idiot. If you are having trouble just post, and most likely GRIN themselves will promptly respond). Either fix problems you dont like, or if you arent sure what you want to do go visit the modding forums for ideas, or just make some skins/maps/etc.

C. Come up with your own constructive GRAW related project.

And please please please lay off GRIN, anyone who thinks they arent interested in the future of the game, dont know what they are doing, etc obviously hasnt spent time over in modding. Without GRIN's incredible assistance nearly all of the best modding work that has happened so far wouldnt have.

This applies to both sides, quit sitting around bashing each other and get to work!

great advice. modding a game can be just as fun as playing it. it can be addictive even, and could involve wasting hundreds of hours to complete a worthy project... which is where common sense comes in. how many people will ever try the mod? who will host servers with your mod, if it ever gets to that part...

there's no certainty with GRAW. too many factors add up to make the game very difficult to enjoy in MP. without a solid playerbase for the original version of the game, producing mods is basically pointless, because you will never have enough people using them.

Its easy to like game you dont play. Play it and then come here and say its good, without laughing...

About mods, I dont get the point of those. There were/are 2000mods for [GR] and they all suck so much. Are any mods legal for laddering or other competive gaming? I played [GR] late 2001 to christmas 2003 and tried couple dozen mod and any of them made no sense. We played original and thats the way it should be. Modding itself can be fun but dont expect us to get involved that kind of useless activity.

"useless activites??" modding? are you serious, half of the people I know in the gaming industry got their jobs from modding. there is nothing useless about modding, its educational, forces you to use your brain in new ways, and in the end , hopefully lets you play a game thats suited excactly to your wishes!

I would be surprised if millions (yeh millions) of GR mod downloads would have been burning download servers for the past 5 years if they sucked. Of course you are entitled to your opinion, it's just that uhm, it kinda sucks

There's a name for a sentence like that, bit I can't put my finger on it....

@ insane snyper, I don't think your orig. post was deleted, just edited to comply with the rules and locked to prevent the inevitable

Mayby GRIN should have done only mods then? I found it very annoying while [GR] I needed to have 6 mods running at the same time to get in server. And then they were playing some Alien Invasion with lazerwpns and green slimemen? Sure its fun.

I hated [GR] with a passion until I played Alpha Squad.

Alpha Squad did put the umph into it, i have to say that!

Navvy Terrek, my personnal all time favourite mission.

2ND was Dodging Clockwork.

Inspired others to go on.

:)

9MS Server holds many mods but rarely ever needs ant more than 3 active at any time?

Same with most good servers.

just because people dont do mods that is to your liking, doesnt mean modding is bad.The pc community(the entire pc gaming community, all games included) would be alot worse off if it wasnt for mods such as Day of defeat, CS, etc.Mods keeps the pc communities alive and sets them apart from the much more passive console communites.creativity is bliss.

and besides, mods are free.and you dont _have_ to play them.

me, I bow to all those who mod!:)

I dare you to tell Serellan that modding is useless. The Rooster got his job with RSE due to his modding of Rogue Spear. The 2 kids that made Counter Strike were hired by Valve. There are more too. What you seem as useless is far from useless.

Of all the [GR] mods I ever played, I thought the AlphaMod's were the best-executed and most professionally finished products out for the game. Their maps often put the original game to shame. THOSE folks did a bang-up job, and I truly hope we can expect the same of them with GRAW. The community would be a lot less exciting without their support, IMHO...

Not all mods are free. Visit the MS Flight Simulator community sometime and check out Capt. Sim, PMDG or Level D. They all offer payware aircraft (mods). There are also payware sceneries such as Fly-Tampa and even environmental effects too.

Good point. I have a good friend who paid handsomely to d/l a more realistic AH-64D, AH-1M, and AH-6 for MS Flight Sim. All aftermarket by folks experienced in flying the REAL deals.

On the other hand, THE VAST MAJORITY of mods are free, including those for PC MP FPS's. Fair enough?

true whiteknight, but as stated by someone else, most mods are free:)

I also got my first job in games from modding, and most of the people I know have some sort of modding history.its the best game dev education there is!:)

:o Ok I have to tell you this is a development I didnt envision.... Is it just me or has this thread turned into an argument about whether mods are a good thing?:o:wall::wall:

Let me make this very simple.......

If you dont like the game, then mod it.

If you dont like the mod, then fix it.

If you dont like the fixed mod, then fix it again.

There is absolutely no reason anyone should ever have to play a game/mod that you dont like.

Oh, and add 'arguing about whether mods are a good thing' to the list of things that people need to stop doing so they can start modding :rofl:

LOL, as reinforced by your company's website. In lieu of a real job experience reference or even resume, one may submit what mods one is responsible for to be considered for employment with GRiN. Thought that was cool...

haha you are right, its kinda silly..sorry I get over-zealous sometimes ;)

I adore that. Not sure about Europe, but in the US it's what you can prove on paper that matters in hiring. Gotta have a degree or certificate to get the job. Forget someone who's got years of experience with great feedback from past supervisors and coworkers. THAT is the way of hiring here most often. So someone who takes practical results and gives weight to them in place of some paper beautification is OK in my book...

A great mod can give games added life but for a mod to take off number one the game itself needs to be very popular or the game needs to be near the end of it's run needing a lift. The only problem with mods for GRAW at this point is there are at the most 200 guys playing online at one time. The GRAW community needs to grow big time before a mod will make it. Maybe I'm wrong but thats how I see it.
