Anti-Cheat Group & Website

I believe that we are only working on getting something setup with the community in the terms of how to handle cheaters, not necessarily talk about the tools that will or will not be emplace.

The tools are just that, tools... It takes people to use the tools. But moreso, it takes the community to make a stand, and there is nothing wrong with getting started sooner than later.

With the next patch due out anytime now, getting a foundation started is a good thing, even if we have to create the tools ourselves to counter cheaters.

To reply to LightSpeeds question:

Trusthfully, I cannot answer that question as I cannot see how GR:AW will 6-12 months from now. I can say though that if it stays like this I won't be playing 2 months from now. I seem to keep finding myself playing either BF2 or [GR].

they were there for [GR] and may be there for GRAW if it ever takes off.

You called Zul. :D

Anti-cheat within GRAW isnt going to be too easy, first of all you have no real way of prooving things, SS isnt enough in my eyes a fraps video maybe better until replays come along *Please grin*. Then you will need to know exactly what too look for, this means your admins will need to test the cheats themselves and fraps it (no replays) and then look over the results and differences to normal game play. Your anti-cheat members that run servers will need to log all IPs and then store them all monthly in a database this minimises the risk of falsily accusing players. We at team SRS did this for years with [GR] behind closed forums, and the whole structure still exists. We gave public viewers the chance to come too us with replays for help, but we also gave them a Anti-Cheat open forum with alot of info on how to catch hackers, watch replays, stop servers getting boomed and questions to players and IPs were we could just from one players IP look at all the names he/she had used over the years, etc, etc.. I would be perpared to say that we were the biggest anti-cheat site ever for [GR], the people behind the scenes were known as ACC Members. We even had the big ladder admins come over often to look over whats new and too learn, replays were submitted often by them too. It isnt easy to run but if it make the game cleaner and more enjoyable then its payed off. All you server admins will need to run the same setup AC wise and you should all share the same ban list. "if banned from one server you get banned from them all".

Look how the Anti-Cheat forums are set up. I am no-longer with Team-SRS ( i founded them) as a player but any AC stuff for GRAW i would be intrested in.

If you have any questions or need help in setting it up just ask. I could make you guys a Graw Anti-cheat forum, one behind closed doors and one for the public :grin1:

Some other things that need to be taken into consideration is...

1) Who will get the website?

2) Who will maintain it?

3) Who will admin it?

4) Who will the moderators be?

5) How will the website be paid for?

6) Who will get the domain name?

7) Will we accept donations to pay for the site?

1. i can do that

2. /

3. /

4. /

5. i can do that

6. i can do that

7. /

If you are interested let me know. I don't expect anything in return. Just like to help, couse i hate cheating.

Not really sure if RA or SRS are going to do it... But, if we get the community involved and get the help of both RA and SRS, we will have a group of very dedicated people in keeping the cheaters out of our servers one way or another.

It's called................................. D-E-T-E-R-M-I-N-A-T-I-O-N !

If we aren't determined to make it happen, then no A/C in the world will work.

As for the site, Sunraa... Not sure about that myself as we haven't heard back from RA and SRS on what their plans are.

  • 2 weeks later...

Does someone know someone over there and ask them?

If not, then we are left to our own devices to figure it out for ourselves.

What does [GR] use for A/C?

[GR] used an anti-cheat called Kidsbu$ter by a group called MORPH if i remember correctly not sure if there still active or if the death of GR2 sent them on to other things..

just went and had a look over there

http://morpf.homestead.com/

it dont look like its been updated in a while, but if enough people hit there site they might show an intrest in the GR series again

Kidbuster was cracked within a month or less, was never updated and was totally ineffective.

Tools developed by Ruggbutt, I believe, helped to detect Retlock.

Replays were particularly effective for [GR] in the early days, but as the Cheaters became familiar with how it worked, they became much harder to detect.

Replays will NEVER be introduced into GRAW according to GRIN, so forget it.

GRIN must explain how it intends to maintain its AC - TO BE QUITE HONEST I FEEL LIKE GRIN DEFRAUDED ME OUT OF $90 AUS BECAUSE THEY LED ME AND EVERYONE ELSE TO BELIEVE THEY HAD A PLAN TO TAKE CARE OF THE AC. THEY DIDNT. AND THEY SHOULD GIVE US A TRUE INDICATION OF HOW THEY INTEND TO MANAGE IT.

'nuff said re: GRINS AC.

There was a Latino Clan they developed an AC for [GR] recently which was quite effective - cant remember the name offhand but they might be interested in helping out (Im sure someone remembers the clan name)

In addition PGL Progaming leagues I think, has a random SS Checker which sends screenshots remotely to a Website I believe while a match is being played and shows what is seen on a players screen. They would also be worth contacting. It may actually be BQL, double check that.

Thats my .02c, unless the game improves a lot for me though, Ill be off to ArmA in 2-3 months when its expected release date is.

GL, Lighty out.

RA is still planning on getting involved, all the admins are getting together Sunday to discuss it.

After that then we will see what GRIN offeres us as far as tools. If they dont give us much to work with the isnt alot we can do, so the ball is really in thier court!

Basically the ACC was composed of squad leaders from about 20 respected squads. We distributed IP tracking tools that parsed GR for player info, and it included IP's for player, server and the last router the player connected thru. Once these tools were in place it was easy to track people who were smurfing or hacking. Last time I checked we had about 30,000 entries in our IP database, and I converted the database to Excel format so it would be easier to find names, IP's, etc. One of the MB leaders put up an online database with the same info. We used Tommy's Tools and set up web servers so that squad leaders could pull replays from other squad's servers. Oftentimes I'd get a message from Zu, Goose or Dust who'd tell me they pulled a replay and dude was hacking. Oftentimes the hacker would still be in the server after we confirmed he was hacking. It was always fun to have 3 or 4 of the guys in the server type into chat that dude was busted thru replays, and often times before the ban people were thanking us for being present and giving them a great place to play. It happened on all the ACC servers that way. ;) My Server Admin Tools program helped to catch these cheaters, as well as the replays we got from Nemon that had hacks running. Those replays were invaluable for training the next generation of "enlightened" server admin. ;)

The idea of getting all the popular server admins together works fantastic. We had a squad show up once in our server and were getting worked. Then they got mad, called us hackers and toggled on the cheats. After it was all said and done, they were banned from any of the large bandwith popular servers. They came back and begged us to undo the "global" ban. Sometimes when someone is acting out beyond having a bad day the power of all the good server admins can straighten things out.

SRS did a great job of expanding upon what the ACC started. They put up public forums and another set of private forums and expanded what the ACC was doing to other leagues. We taught others how to watch replays, and showed them that some of the glitches in the replays weren't a cheat. And Undertaker is correct, ladder admins would ask for our opinion. No one ever got "convicted" of being a cheater if there wasn't 100% agreement. No one was ever hassled by another ACC member because his opinion on the replay differed from another. It was a killer setup. If ya'll are gonna go with a squad heading this thing up, Undertaker is the man for the job. If he wants it of course. I don't think I'm speaking out of line if I speak for the other couple of dozen ACC squad leaders when I say that Undertaker and SRS are highly respected because of their honesty, fair play and their commitment to catching hackers.

There was a Latino Clan......................... but they might be interested in helping out (Im sure someone remembers the clan name)

Not a good idea getting involved with LT. I banned all IP's from South America once because of them. PM me if you want the skinny.

I know about that one... i think AOD can enlighted this topic as they were a victim.

Hmm.LT = nono. Thanxs for the kind words Rugg!. If it wasnt for you and your tools we would have never got that far anyway. Christ i miss the [GR] days. :(

It was CDN, XCal, AOD, OSS to name others as important in this whole process (and I left a dozen or so more names out). My tools helped for sure, but I went back and watched some replays that we banned someone for before I created my tools. It took me 4 hours of watching that replay over and over again to figure out dude was retlocking. I went back 6 months later after creating the tools and only had to watch a small section of the replay twice. I was right, but the tools made our jobs easier. Entity from XCal was amazing with his IP logger. IMHO that logger was every bit as important as my tools. Then it was the squads that stepped up and worked with each other to clean up our servers. It was funny in a way because all hackers ended up back in the UBI lobby because we'd chased them all from the popular clan servers.

We did a great job with an Anti-Cheat group and only had one small incident in 3+ years of it's existence. If any of you want the scoop on what works and what doesn't, ask Undertaker or PM me. I'm willing to give you some insight to help you avoid some of the pitfalls that may present themselves.
