A Few Questions.....

Recommended Posts

First: How do i get the mini map to show the zones and the whole map properley?

second: When i render it, whats the difference between high, medium, low and draft, and also what are the passes?

third: Is there any other way to edit the white zone box with the 2 spheres on, apart from in the zones.xml, cause that takes ages!

Please if someone can answer these before i render my map.

I haven't made a Domination map yet but there are zones that can be placed via the multiplayer menu in the editor

2.draft; is the worst level of rendering/export of your map. use that for testing your map without the nice lighting and the other higher options give your map better lighting but require more system resources to export and time...Rural hell and sniper city took about 1hr 20 minutes with 3 passes at medium for deathmatch.(Grins reccomendation)

3. as i mentioned at the top not sure but ask Ted smith via message and maybe he can help. :thumbsup:

Questions 1 and 3 are actually the same question. That white border that you alter in the zones.xml file is what controls what shows up on the minimap. If it doesn't encompass the entirety of your map, then the zones in your map will not show up properly.

I'm assuming from this that you've already placed all your zones through the multiplayer section in the editor interface right? If so, then it's just a matter of resizing the white border, but unfortunately I don't know any way to do it from within the editor, only the xml file method. If I do find a way I'll let you know, but I can't promise anything.

ok... I'll help you out with the zones sizing thing for yer mini map... as I spent bout an hour the other day figuring the damn thing out in the xml file...

it looks like this... tho yers may have different numbers...

<borders tl="-10000 10000 5000" br="10000 -10000 5000"/>

ok... now we'll number these sets to make it easier....

<borders tl="-10000 10000 5000" br="10000 -10000 5000"/>

______________1_____2____3________4______5____6

1 = direction left or right, negative numbers go left, positive right

2 = direction up or down, positive numbers go up, negative down

3 = not sure... this and six didn't impact anything I was doing so....

4 = direction left or right, negative numbers go left, positive right

5 = direction up or down, positive numbers go up, negative down

6 = not sure... refer to 3

now... if you look at yer map from the top down... you see the spheres... you need to figure out which sphere is the top left... and which is bottom right... once you do this... it's easy... TOP LEFT SPHERE is numbers 1-3 and BOTTOM RIGHT SPHERE is 4-6.

I believe these spheres coincide with how your player is initially positioned when you first start a new map... so bottom left I think is where yer player is at that point.

So when adjusting these numbers... you are adjusting them according to where your player started at the beginning of the modding...

I hope this helps you out bud....

ok thanks for the replies, 1 more question thou,

On this image:

http://img236.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitled5gr.jpg

I want to be able to make my map, so that to capture a zone you have to stand on the actual buildings instead of any where in the area. However i want it so that when u capture it, i dont want the building zone just to appear captured on the map, i want some of the area surounding it to appear like that to. Is this possible, Thanks

Might be able to alter the z-coordinate for the zone so that the lowest part of the zone is the top of that building. Then just have the zone as wide as you want and unless people are at the top of the building they won't actually be in the zone.

It would look a little odd to people wandering around in what the map shows as the zone area but not actually being inside the zone.

Not sure if this is entirely possible or not, but I don't have time to check at the moment. Give it a shot.

Please if someone can answer these before i render my map.

this is how i edited my zone.xml file to have the white border around the play area of my map. create a new zone. make the new zone around the play area of your map, i.e. where you want the white border. save the map and exit. go to zone.xml and change

<borders tl="-10000 10000 5000" br="10000 -10000 5000"/>

to whatever coordinates that zone you just created has. go back to map editor and the white border will be where you wanted it.
