GRIN compared to other game manufacturers...

Recommended Posts

I have the following games:

BFV

BF2

Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising

Joint Operations: Escalation

Joint Operations: International Conflict

Joint Operations: Reality Mod

Blackhawk Down

Blackhawk Down: Team Sabre

Commanche 4

F16

Armored Fist 3

Delta Force 2

GRAW

AA

And out of all these games, GRIN is the only company that I actually see visit the forums and help people. Most of these games are from NovaLogic... They have absolutely no mod support, no support in the forums from the game manufacturer and they don't truly support the product they sell.

I am truly amazed at how the GRIN team get in here and help people, talk to us, joke around and have fun with this community.

You are probably saying that I'm a fangurl of GRIN/UBI... Yes, I am. But, the point I'm making here is that GRIN does care about its community... They prove it by coming here and supporting us as much as we support them.

I am personally glad that I moved away from the other manufacturer and have found this community to one of the absolute best; in-game and in the community.

I know that many of us agree to disagree... You have no idea how nice it is!

Since my squad and I really don't play any other games but GR:AW, we have met some really nice people while playing. That says loads about the GR community!

This is probably one of the strongest gaming communities I've came across and I believe my squad and I will be sticking around for a long time to come! :)

So... I salute this community and GRIN for the fantastic job and comradery that this community has to offer! It's honestly a very pleasant and enjoyable change for us!

THANK YOU GR COMMUNITY AND GRIN!

I agree its nice to have contact with the Devs. The only other game I know/play where the Dev is involved is the IL-2 Series by 1C. Oleg Maddox pops into the forums often and asks for feedback, historical documents etc to help the continueing development of the series.

I will also add that IL-2 is probably THEE best supported game I have ever played. The original was released in 2001 and still to this day we have gotten 100s of MB of content that cost us nothing, maps, planes and even now we are getting 3 new add-ons for it which are paid add-ons but $10 a pop is a small price to pay for the IMMENSE amount of free content we have gotten over the years. It probably one of the ONLY games Ubi hasn't been able to mess up.(well okay they did get in some legal hotwater a few years ago by foolishly putting Manufacturers names on the Pacific Fighters box which kinda screwed us out some important planes)

You should have seen the community before. You wouldnt even know how to respond.

But, ya, I`ll give ya that much.Grin are definitley very involved in the community and they love their game. There is honour in that. Even though I may not like the MP side of the game. I still have a great respect for the Grin team for the amount of effort they put into the community.

Well, the GRIN boy's ain't the first developers that I've seen frequent a dedicated forum like this...but the other devs that do this and that I have seen is in a "closed" forum only catering to ppl that have indeed bought the game in question. The GRIN boys however do this in an open forum and I have to hand it to them for their dedication. :grin1:

Even as an [GR] modder I couldn't handle all the idiotic messages and PM's that I recieved on account for my "products" and these guys are taking alot more hassle than I ever did and still coming back for more! Had I been the one in the firing line I'm fairly sure the community would of got a "Stick och brinn!" (translate that one if you can folks :P ) from me!

So....GRIN guys...from one modeler to a whole devteam. I'll hand it to you for your dedication to your product. I'm liking it more and more every time that I start the game up, even though I'm so far an SP only player and always getting severely violated by opfor AI as I try beating the SP campaign. It wouldn't suprise me all to much if whoever made the missions and whoever coded the AI get a funny feeling of being cursed everytime I play the game...cause I've called them every nasty name ever invented...both in Swedish and English (and the few bad words I know of Bosnian, French, Spanish....and so on). :wall:

I totally agree, and I want to add that GRAW is the bet game that has been released since GR. It has the feel of GR and equals the tactical potential of GR. It allows you to think and make plans and movements to engage, and forces you to be slow and methodical, and rewards you for doing so. The SP game is extremely good and challenging, I am working my way through a second time, trying different plans.

Coop, especially with the right people, is great fun. The main thing this game needs is dedi servers and TDM, once the dedi servers launch, playing coop and TDM on comms will be outstanding. The only other thing needed for SP, and MP, are modded missions. Looking forward to all of the above.

For me, GRAW fills a huge need for tactical gameplay. The horizon of PC gaming consists of nothing but futuristic, single character arcade shooters like Prey and Crysis, there is nothing in the squad based, real world combat tac sim. The future looks grim for this niche game and the release of the PS3 will bring another flood of arcade games. I think most PC FPS games will be ports from either 360 or PS3.

To be honest...if it were not for Bo and the other GRIN team members providing information on these forums, I doubt I would have purchased this game at all. I know that I was one, after LETDOWN, that really didn't want any thing to do with UBI again. Bo sold me, and I'm guessing many others.

I can also honestly say that I do not regret purchasing this game and I am still looking forward to those things which will make GRIN MP the great game it can be.

Even though I haven't bought the retail version of GRAW and have been critical of the lack of SP gameplay modes and soldier switching. Having GRIN visit and support GRAW fans is a very big plus. :grin1: I might even get lucky somewhere down to road and GRIN and or modders will give GRAW some SP content that would add some sorely needed replayability to GRAW.

Hat's off to the guys at GRIN. Many many games do not see this kind of interaction. You guys are the only reason I still plan on buying GRAW. I still am holding to my "I'll buy it when the SADS files are relesed" stance but I can promise you that I will. The game is improving and I hope that you continue to (are allowed by UBI that is) to support it and make it better. You, GRIN devs, are the only reason for that, otherwise I would have written GRAW off and moved on. I have faith in you and you so far have justified that. I commend your efforts and greatly appreciate it. Cheers to you. If I ever meet you guys in person, the first round of drinks is on me. Thanks.

GRIN visit the forum - but does it make a difference?

That remains to be seen.

If they respond to the forum's wishes - which at the moment I belive to be TDM and dedicated server thingies? - then great!

If not, then that'll be pretty poor - GRIN came, they saw, they ignored.

Over to you, GRIN.

I know you are pretty knew here, so I will enlighten you just a bit on GRIN's behalf.

Ubi controls what we get in this game from here on out. GRIN could come up with an idea for the game and if Ubi says "No", then it will never see the light of day.

GRIN is in a way a "middle man" here when they dont have to be. In the end Ubi decides what we get and dont get.

On the other hand GRIN has spiced up the game according to what we have asked when it is possible. AA for example. it it true AA? not really, but it is the only thing that is close to it that would work with the game. We asked, they gave.

Better sounds in hit detection. Has some flaws, and I think they are looking into why, but once again, we asked, they gave.

There are other things that they have added as well that we asked for. Although they cant add everything we ask for, and for good reason, they do, do their best to give us what we want within reason.

So in short, yes they listen, they ask Ubi, and they go from there.

I think in the long run though, if we want to get anything major added to the game that we all think should be added, we need to go to the man himself and ask for it, and stop pestering the people who have no say so.

Kind of like buying a car. The salesman (GRIN) would love for you to buy the car, but you want a few options added to the car before you do so. Well the salesman has no say so if you get the options or not for the price you worked the deal for, it all comes down to the manager (Ubi) giving the go ahead, and that comes down to if there is profit to made still after said options are added. If not the manager says no, and then you make the choice after that whether to buy or not. Same with this game.

I used that anology because I sold cars for Toyota for a few years, and that is exactly how it works.
