Map WIP - Help Wanted

sup , i started work on an island map , since island thunder were some of the more interesting looking maps throughout GR1 ...

also i'm asking any modeler/texture artist who has some free time to help out to speed production so it wont be unmanageable .

yeah , thz peeps ... i made the terrain in 3ds max , waitin for the editor to pop up ;

now i have the plugin and dont know how to export the terrain . also it appears as someone has imported the models form 3ds but texture application isnt functioning properly , so maybe a tweak or something ?

btw , still looking for modelers/skinners to make region specific buildings/props for the surrounding areas in the map .

Hi DimZ, im no 3DSM user but I can produce VERY easily like in a matter of seconds Fractal Procedural terrain maps with a 3D application that allows me to export as .obj format I can also texture the terrain very quickly again (but it would need some work) as they tend to be bland in 3DSM when exported but possible a great starting point.

This may or maynot be of any help to you. Ill post back shortly with some shots of what I can create.

These are low res samples of ENTIRE planets that can be patch exported as required with the texture. Unfortunately the water cannot be exported.

I can also create sky maps & starfields. The largest render Ive compiled is a 12,000 x 12,000 starfield at 10.2mb .jpeg format.

You can get me at the TRT forums almost everyday.

It fractal math terrain... You plugin a fractal set it to Slope Altitude etc etc, blend multiple fractals build the textures in the same way with coulours to values & WALLAH...complete worldfile.

making terrains in those kind of applications is not a bad idea at all, just remember to optimise the number of polygons before importing to the engine!:) hehe

hehehehe..yep the polycount can get into the upper millions pretty quickly, ridges can also create glitches, But its a quick fix for creating some undulating terrain very easily that can then be tailored to your needs in most 3D apps.

Apps: 3DSM (noob with it), Mojoworld Pro3.1 (BetaTester...ooops did I just breach my NDA), Vue 5 Infinite (can also create terrain patches & using Nurbs tool some interesting rock arch formations with materials), Hexxagon2 (Novice), Poser6 (crap prog) & MayPLE (noobed again) ;)

Of course another option is to import .dem files to create terrains from satellite images :)
