Kakanater Posted June 14, 2006 Share Posted June 14, 2006 This is directed to everyone in this forum, Do you guys pick up a game and play it for a couple years like GR or maybe GRAW or do you play a game for a couple months and then pick up a new one. Just wondering because sometimes it sounds like some people play one game for three years. Maybe you play one game mainly and other games on the side. Just curious. Damolee Posted June 14, 2006 Share Posted June 14, 2006 I am hoping ill be playing Graw in a couple of years, I have it panned out to be my next focused online MP game but that entirely depends on what GRIN come up with, with regards to patches and MP support. I've not bothered a great deal with single player, as that's honestly not what I bought it for. cdnsniper Posted June 14, 2006 Share Posted June 14, 2006 (edited) If it is an exceptionally well done game I could play it for around six months straight everyday (the two games that I do that are America's Army and Rise of Nations), and then go on and off from there until another game replaces it. But usually I'll play a game for maybe a month and put it on the shelf. With that being said, I haven't really played a game for a couple of weeks (played maybe 2-3 days of Runescape and that's it). P.S.: Main reasons I'm not playing is I'm drawing near my Pre-Calc final exam which I really want to get exempted in (exemption is 78% and I have 77%), and it's summer time with parties to take up my time. For shooters I've only played the Clancy series, I was with Rainbow Six from the first one until the series was dusted by GR1. I played that untill the release of GRAW. Every now and again I pop in my EA sports NHL titles or NFSUG but mostly wargaming. No I do not plan on buying a PS3...I'd never play it.... I quit consoles way back when. Even tho it does have issues online, I still enjoy it. I started playing [GR] when it was first released but I didn't play it long due to having dialup as my only connection. I loved that game but wasn't fun by myself. I then picked up "Black Hawk Down", which was suggested by a teammate of mine. The graphics on that game aren't as good as GRAW but they're not bad. Online play was an absolute blast in TDM(not to mention that I FINALLY got cable! LOL) As for the PS3, I'll probably never buy one or an Xbox. I don't really like console games. (some where too hard to handle) I'm not a gamer that buys much games, i have three children and they consume most of my time. Durling the week i have something to do allmost every evening, so playing is restricted to weekends, and only in the evening..... when the eldest is playing on my second pc i either am writing on forums, or I play something without much violence (Civ 3). I hope modders will catch up with this game also so it'll last its time. I wont buy a console, the kids will play all the time, and we have a beuatiful garden and nice weather at the moment so they should be outdoors....( My eldest kid plays at most 2 ouhrs in the weekend, and at school once a week for half an hour, that should do at the moment) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Me personally, i pick up a game, average around 2 months max play, (BF2 7-8 months, one off) on a new pc title, then move on, and usually wait the best part of a year waiting for official expansions. You could call it "crack on a CD", it's really that addictive I thought I would get addictive to BF2 but I stopped play that after... maybe a month. DisgruntledArchitect Posted June 14, 2006 Share Posted June 14, 2006 I played [GR] for 2 or 3 years; it outlasted RVS by a year, and currently I'm splitting time between GRAW, SWAT4 (which I've played since the beta) and Guild Wars (almost a year). [GR] is something of an anomaly, I think, and is due to the expansion packs, the breadth of replayable gametypes, and the sizeable amount of free mods; I don't imagine that I'll stick with any game longer than that simply on the base content, alone. MMORPG's usually last me for a good 8 months or more if they are good. Other than MMORPG's and the R6 series, a game usually lasts me around 1-2 months before I move on. The only other ones even coming close are mainly from the RTS genre (Age of Empies II and III, Medieval and Rome: Total War). Just says how great GR was that it is basically the only FPS I ever spent more than few hours playing on PC (I love me some Halo on the box). Suicide Commando Posted June 15, 2006 Share Posted June 15, 2006 Really depends on the quality of the game and if there are any other contemporaries that would push out the old to make way for the new. Been playing RSE's games since they released R6 all the way to GR, and am still playing it. Other games I still play include Jagged Alliance 2 which is also quite old. Prodeminantly though it seems that I'll play a game through once or twice and then shelve it. Not too many have the staying power of a true classic. I have a very small collection of games and try to play them all, even though some are 5 or more years old. I really need a new video card and some more memory though. This one is the big one, but all comes down to on how much mod support the game has to keep it fresh plus on how well MP online runs. With out mod support games are lucky to last a week to a month if that! With mod support depending on the game can last until something better comes along and since we talking about PC games it could be a year or more since only 1 to 2 good games come out a year! As for GR been playing it since day one and still have it on my system today becuase of the great MP and mods. If just one of the two where gone (MP/Mods) the game would never of lasted this long!
