I RW, i hear perfectly, but i cant say a word, even when my mic is working properly. Any configuration tips? Shuuuuu! I gotta get myself a new sound board. PS: I got : Windows Me AMD Athlon 900Mhz 191, Mb of RAM Diamond Viper II video card Some crappy onboard soundboard. Do I need more memory??? What sound board should i get? From most opinions...teamspeak is better quality and takes up less bandwidth. As for it muting your speakers, does that mean you cant hear ANYTHING or just other people talking to you in Teamspeak? As for more memory, it can never hurt....though any improvement would more likely be felt in the time it takes things to load other than actual gameplay. How much memory in the video card? Also...I have the Soundblaster Live 5.1 video card and it's great. It's more personal preference though. nib Posted April 1, 2003 Share Posted April 1, 2003 I just recently tried to setup TS on my machine. This is just some FYI information, it may or may not help your problem. I found that using my normal setup of a normal cheap-o mic ($12 Labtec) and my regular speakers (nice set of Soundworks I think) and my soundcard (Sound Blaster Ensonique), it sounded terrible. Everyone was garbled and staticy, I came across very low and hard to hear and I had to lean real close to the mic for it to hear me. I did all the driver updates recommended at the site and it was still terrible. Even installed the Kx drivers they claim are the be-all end-all for sound drivers. Still not luck. I then went and bought this headset/mic combo for $30 and everything worked perfectly! I was shocked (and pleased). My teammates sound great, and the game sounds 10x better as well. I highly recommend something like this to anyone wanting to use TS (or RW I imgaine). Of course, now my wife thinks I'm an even bigger nerd but hey, she married me! Do I need more memory??? Depending on your motherboard's capacity, yes! Be sure you purchase the same brand and speed (i.e. PC 100 or PC 133). Can't mix and match. What sound board should i get? A new sound card will improve overall performance, especially in-game performance. Why? It will free up system resources that the CPU normally would use: On-board sound, thus improved gameplay, higher FPS, etc. I would get at least a SoundBlaster 5.1 Live! Digital. You can get em around $36 or so at NewEgg.com or GoogleGear.com. Actually, I think NewEgg.com is having a sale on the OEM version: $33 IIRC. If you're willing to spend the money, consider the Audigy Gamer or MP3+ cards. Those retail for around $84-88. 24Bit/96KHz instead of 16Bit/48KHz. Higher quality. The Audigy also has an on-board FireWire port. As for a GFX card upgrade, that is up to you. I could recommend a few resonably-priced cards for ya, but only if you plan to upgrade your card.
