Deadpreacher 2
Sony's betting that the next generation of mega-hits won't be developed by huge, faceless corporations -- they'll be developed by YOU. Here's what Sony is doing to make the PlayStation 3 the platform of choice for indy developers. In a fascinating development, Sony appears to be loosening its notoriously vice-like control over its gaming platforms with the PlayStation 3. The PS3: the ultimate homebrew platform? In an interview with Japanese game website Impress Watch, translated by Shou Suzuki, Sony executive Izumi Kawanishi explained how the company would be more open to independent programmers making their own games via the Linux computer language, which is native to the PS3. In part, Kawanishi said that "we'd like to see various individuals participate in content creation for the PS3" in addition to large publishers. What form this will take is still unknown, but it seems likely that Sony will try to foster indy games development through its online service, but the way Microsoft promotes indy games through Xbox Live. The rationale is simple -- games like Counter-Strike went from being freely distributed mods to international sensations. And with Microsoft supporting the homebrew effort, it was only a matter of time for industry leaders like Sony to get on board. Is Nintendo next? Link All i got to say it great news for Sony!!! When Microsoft said they where going to allow user mods over x360 i said from there Sony now hold no cards over x360! Now that Sony is on board with users maken there own game plus mods they just might of taken the lead. Now i know microsoft has a much better online, but if they can match or even add in more support (Tools) for the user's to make mods on all games even old ones like GRAW i might be able to hold off on getting a PS3 until a price drop. I got more faith in Microsoft in this, but this sure does raise the stakes on getting both to play around with! Man it just keeps getting better being a console owner this time around! Foxtrot360 0
I sure hope they do this. Maybe people wont be such Microsoft fanboys then.
tangovictor 0
Maybe this will counter the negativity surrounding their clamp-down and ban on stores selling used games for PS3.
