Kamakazi 0
Okay, I was gone for a few days after I got my new computer, and my little sister used it to browse the internet one night for "school" work, she is in sixth grade, it was a very, very bad idea. Now I have this little piece of spyware called Surf Sidekick that I absolutely cannot get rid of, I have tried Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and trying to delete the registry entries manually by using what it prescribes to do on the symantec website, but everytime I delete an entry, when leave that registry "folder" and go back it has reinserted itself. Does anybody have any advice on how to get rid of this thing, I am quite desperate.
Dannik 43
Removal advice. As with most really bad mal/spyware, safe mode (F8 during boot) is your friend. Oh, and please, please keep lusers from your machine as much as you can, and barring that, either use limited profiles (Windows) or try VMWare's freeware virtual machine software to create an environment that cannot be affected in any way that will hose the box. Oh, and the same old: Switch to Firefox or Opera. This won't solve your current problem, but it may help down the road. Best of luck.
DonMiguel 11
use those antispyware programs in safemode, make sure to msconfig and remove it from there...dblcheck your add/remove programs for it as well and remove via that. It's a ###### to remove but I do it on a regular basis (I work in IT and deal frequently with residential computers). good luck...at least it wasn't something like spy sheriff or worse.
