snakebite1967 0
you hit on an age old topic almost up there with the chicken and the egg . intel versus AMD, nvidia versus ATI or SB versus turtle beach there realy isnt a single answer go to any game forum and youl see hundreds of posts on hardware issues how crappy the game runs on my uber pc and so on, ill tell ya AMD stinger will yell Intel (joke Stinger i enjoy your enthusiasm) . at the end of the day many of us here started playing this game with less than super computers the main trick for most of us is knowing your pc, keeping the maintenance up , checking for spyware and the usual software updates and so on. some of us also mess with windows tweaks and registery hacks we play with sound and video drivers we tweak the game ini file and so on, not having a hundred icons sitting on your task bar is another. ok ive finished waffling basicly a cpu over 1 gig is preferable a good mobo with plenty of support and good reviews 512 of a good ram or more a decent fast hard drive 40 gig or bigger, a good sound card with good drivers that have no obvious game or o/s issues same with the video card today you have more options for relativly cheap gaming cards with plenty of support, tho cruise the forums youd be amazed how many mobos are alergic to certain types and brands of video cards or are sensitive to irq sharing when combined with a high end sound and vid card, also cooling is very important i run a volcano 9 thermaltake on my AMD plus numerous case fans yes its noisy but as im half deaf anyway i just turn the surround up.. look thru the forum check some of the members sigs out youl get a general idea on what most ppl run ps i run marathon gaming sessions for various games online or offline and can honestl;y say im usualy crash free Edited March 28, 2003 by snakebite1967
ghost gamer 0
I run an hp which I got in august 2001. specs as follows: Windows ME 1 gig cpu 60 gig hard drive 512 mb ram 64 mb ram Geforce mx420 pci 512 sound card I upgraed the memory, video and sound cards. The only time I have a problem at all is when I try to run a very old mission, then it crashes do to GR version issues. I run all settings on high, no shadows, no bullet holes and 800x32 res. My frame rate is excellent, I never detect a lag or choppiness.I also run ms config and shut down all programs except core system stuff, which gets my resources 99% free. Of course I run defrag, scandisk and cleanmgr weekly. I also just bought Raven Shield, and Battlefield 1942. In addition I have RTCW, Medof of Honor, SOF II, NOLF2 among a host of others. All of these games run great on my pc. Even Battlefield 1942, which is a cpu/memory hog. I did have to cut down on how far I could see in that game. Raven Shield has everything set on high and it runs awesome. The reccomended specs for Raven Shield are fairly steep. The Geforce MX 420 card is running on drivers dated from July 2002, don't recall the specific driver #'s and the pci 512 card is running on the drivers it came with, dated from 2001. I never have updated THE BIOS or motherboard chip set. Depending on how much $$$ you wanna spend, I'd say you should be able to get a decent performing pc fairly "cheap". If it were me, I'd aim for a cpu at least in the 2.5 gig range, 512-1 gig ram, the latest geforce 128 mb card(I have always had good experiences with Geforce cards) and audigy 2 sound card and at least a 60 gig hard drive. Just my thoughts.
Urban_Tiger 0
I have a very very similar system to Snakebite (quite by accident as I built this before I used this forum lol) and so far (touch wood) I haven't had any instability problems at all with hardware or software. I do keep up on general maintanance like defregging etc and it does a make the difference. The only issue I have had was with the Logitech mouse which I posted about, that was mainly in GR too not everywhere. Basically the wheel was working but it wasn't smooth or at times moved involuntarily....I just swapped it over from the PS/2 port to USB instead and it's 100% again ! We all have our preferences as Snakebite also says such as the example of some swear by AMD and others by Intel lol. A little research and reviews of kit you are looking to buy never does any harm before you buy it to make sure there aren't any blatantly known compatability issues etc, but generally these days such issues are becoming less. In addition to that the rest really comes down to your budget, how much wad do you want to blow on all this new kit lol?? Take Snakebite's advise m8, he's pretty much covered it for you and how much more you go above his examples on specifications is obviously up to you !
