CO-OP Wish list/Fix list

Recommended Posts

I just hosted a LAN Party on the weekend with 4 of my friends (ages 33-42)... our main game-to-play was GRAW. Of course, with the 4-person limit, we decided to run 2 servers, 1 2-man, 1 3-man. After trying to play through most of the maps, my friends and I found that correcting 3 things would completely turn around GRAW co-op from the console-disaster it is...

1. ADD MORE PLAYERS: This is the *PC* version, most LAN gamers have 8-port switches/hubs, so there should be at least that many slots. I know this doesn't fit with some of the mission set-ups/profiles/starts, but those could easily be overcome. It worked great for all the previous GR and pre-Lockdown RS games, so please try to carry it on here. Would also help with Clan-play.

2. GAME ENDS WHEN TEAM LEADER DIES: Well this was fun... I so enjoyed having to hang back and hide so my buddies could have a chance to play without the game ending. I know this is a direct result of console-port-itus (as evidenced by the TL being the only one able to perform mission critical actions like placing C4), but it is absolutely lame. How can you have a good team experience when the team spends most of it's time trying to protect the TL?

3. INFINITE RESPAWN: Since these missions are HUGE, and you have to replay from the beginning if failed (which considering points #1 and 2, can be quite often), we should at least have the option for infinite respawn so we can actually finish the mission without restarts ( a la GR1). I know this is not as realistic, but it's a helluva lot more fun!

If you do nothing else in the next patch, PLEASE fix these 3 items, I'm sure most would agree that this would be your best chance at saving this potentially great game. Thanks.

If this subject hasn't been discussed allready. I still see some restrictions on range of sight when Laying Down Prone. The angle of terrain your laying on can restrict you from pointing or obtaining certain angles of sight. Room for more improvement I think:

Ingame Voice Chat and the ability to click on other players and see what weapons they have.

Yrs i agree with u on all points, but if the TL is hosting the game as is the case, then once he is out then the session should end, after all he starts the game, and wants the team effort, but in most cases is left to do the prime mission while all others go too quick and all over the map on a chicken shoot, its just so damn annoying as u find ur self doing it alone after everyone is KIA :o= and it does need voice com' in the game too, someone needs to get it right...And i have got my game going stable now by going back to an earlier video driver 84.21.....its a whole lot better now

You should be able to change ghost leader before start. The host is always ghost leader, should be optionable.

I totally agree with all the above!

Since the host is the leader, the leader gets more points... Why should the host get the most points just because he's hosting?

Hello,

since this is my first post on GR.net, let me thank you for an amazing game. As a Co-op fan I see it has a huge potential. Anyway, here goes my wish list for Co-op (in order of importance):

1. Dedicated server files and decent server settings.

If hosting a game on a dedicated server, anybody could take the leadership of course.

In the server settings you should be able to disable Target Markers and markers for friendly units. (for realism fans :))

2. In-game voicechat

If there is no voicechat or in addition to it, at least bindkeys for some most useful words, such as "Contact!", "Sniper!", "Enemy behind!", etc.

3. No Game Over if Team Leader dies

If the TL dies, nr.2 should take command, then nr.3 and so on

4. Number of players should be raised to 8

The missions from SP are designed for 4 players and its ok, since with 8 players they would be way too easy. But considering there will be soon a lot of custom maps which could be designed for 8 people it would be nice. At this point I suppose the map editor which was released with the 1.16 update allows creating of Co-op mission as well (I havent checked it yet - the tutorial is for domination mode).

And two general remarks:

1. You shouldnt be able to shoot donw a chopper with 1 and half magazies when you shoot with an assault rifle.

2. The sniper and even a rifleman has his job too easy, because their hands are not shaking at all. Thats way too unrealistic. Also recoil of some weapons seems to be too little. I know there are 2 kinds of gamers: arcade gamers and realism fans. But you could add the realistic features in the Hard difficulty.

I hope the GRIN techs will make GRAW friendly for recon and stealth parts of COOP/ SP missions. GRAW should always give us the option of using stealth techniques on the current single play and COOP missions, if we should want to take the extra time for it. .. That would also include giving us settings for our own AI to move in stealth mode... We are depicting elite special forces, NOT general infantry... and moving in stealth is a BIG part of of all spec ops normal functions.

The current AI configurations ( both enemy and friendly) do not have enough limitations in their listening, and seeing definitions, to allow for stealth possiblilities to exist in any present or future missions.

I took a silencer on most of my missions and the ability of the enemy AI to immediately hone in on your position with amazingly accurate suppression fire is the most insane thing I have seen. Trying to get the AI to respond properly to incoming fire I think is impossible. I don't think you can script all the variables like shooting with a silencer and from behind a concealed position.

If I want to try to go stealthy and go prone or low crawl I have to leave the AI behind as they are all standing tall and proud, making excellent targets for the enemy.

Mmmm yes, I was just corrected of this by my buddy asrock. Ooops.

Ok, so you can coop over the internet. But its still through gamespy... which sucks!

your right it needs an option to host or join from a mulitplayer lobby by entering an IP Address, and not just GameSpy, i love that in [GR], and yes to all the modes of game play too

Just curious, have you ever gotten up close to a military helicopter?

Believe me, 45 rounds of 5.56mm at ranges of 50-150 meters is MORE than it would take to stop an Apache. In case you care, I fix those for a living. I know exactly where all the kevlar is in them, and all the aluminum, and what isn't going to last under small arms fire.

Those aircraft are survivable because of their ability to see the battlefield at a distance and fire from significant standoff ranges. You want to know what happens to helicopters in close quarters? Watch Blackhawk Down. But don't be fooled by BF2- it doean't take much at all to get a helo out of the sky, which is why if you're close enough to see the helicopter it's crew has already made a BIG mistake...

Sadly its not really a "silencer" in the fact they are obviously not using Sub-Sonic Ammo(how silencers are truly "silent")so its more a flash suppressor(tho it again really doesnt do a great job at that either)

I love all of the suggestions. The feature I believe is foremost is respawn in co-op gameplay. Sometimes it is fun to be realistic as possible, but mostly it's fun to just play the game. When die, I would like to be able to respawn like the original GR. Have server features like how many respawns from 1 to infinity. I did not play Rainbow Six for this reason. I will not play GR Advanced Warfighter even though I bought the game. Most of the fun of this game is removed without this feature.

Thank you for listening to us gamers.

I believe you are right as it is way to loud, but it would be a fix they could do. Program it so when the silencer is selected the proper ammo is used.

The "silencers" in game are sound suppressors and reduce the muzzle sound by around 25db and can actually improve muzzle velocity. They are not intended for use with sub-sonic ammo. This is way off topic, as usual.

Back on topic.

1. Put Direct IP hosting back in the game as per GR1

2. Get rid of the "TL is dead! Game over" stupidity

3. Allow up to 8 players to take part

4. Release an IGOR type clone so that missions can me made

These 4 really are the basic minimum required for Co-OP IMHO.

And, bizarrely, :g_withgrin:

My god this online experience is just backward!

After playing and dying in COOP - I can't do anything! I can't follow my remaning team-mates - nothing.

What other games have GRIN been looking at when designing their online gameplay/browsers? I'm absolutely staggered at the huge backward step that AW (I refuse to tag it with GR any longer) offers in terms of an online experience.

There are certain things that I have come to expect over the last few years with respect to online games, certain features which have in my opinion become the norm - such as a deathcam and the ability to switch between your teammates when you die. Yet, AW seems to have none of them! Grrrrr!

Amazing. A thread started in early May with "suggestions for Co-OP Wish List Fix List" and here in mid-July, after three major patches... and we're still wishing for the same stuff.

And no SP tools so far, either.

I must agree with the respawn thing. Missions are very long and the COOP experience might get pretty boring to whoever bites the bullet in beginning of a mission.

Alltough I still think that if you make a mistake (i.e. die) you should get somekind of penalty. Time usually does the trick (time to think what went wrong) but on this case waiting for 30mins+ is a bit too harsh. Spawning to the beginning of the map and running across the whole map does not make much sence and I think we can all agree on that. Instant respawns to teamleader or a location close by in my opinion would not be a very good idea either. It would also make COOP missions easier / duller mainly because you could just run and gun through the whole map respawning everytime after you die.

I don't know has this been suggested before but what if respawns would be controlled on the teams progress on the current mission. For example: there is a resupply helo in almost all of the missions. Now if resupply helos could bring reinforcements i.e. the players who have died prior to that point. This way if someone dies he'll be joining the action when, and if, the rest of the team reaches the resuply point.

I agree with pretty much everything that's been said in this thread.

Improved Co-op will come. We've got to trust GRiN...they listened to the TDM/TvT folk and they're going to get their gametypes. We know they're reading our posts and that they also want to support us as well.

(just trying to boost some morale as I slink back to the GR1 co-op servers still running)
