chiles4
I think it would be helpful to people considering buying the game as well as those struggling for frames if we started to paint a picture of GRAW performance based on people's hardware, GRAW settings, driver version and framerate. People could get a better idea of the hardware needed, maybe what helps, what doesn't help etc. You can even cut and paste what I have listed below and enter your own values. And I've probably left some stuff out. CPU: XP2600+M @ 2310Mhz with 220FSB GPU: 6800GT (with Nvidia recommended overclock) RAM: 2GB SND: Audigy 2 (latest drivers) DRIVERS: XTREME-G 84.56 (www.tweaksrus.com) SETTINGS: Resolution: 1024x768 Texture Quality: MEDIUM Texture Filtering: AF4X Effects Quality: LOW Dynamic Shadows: LOW Dynamic Lighting: OFF Post Effects: LOW EAX: ENABLED Audio Quality: High TWEAKS: Texture Management (XML): All set to TRUE PEAK FRAMES: ~50 AVG FRAMES: ~35-40 MIN FRAMES: ~20-25 THOUGHTS: The Texture Management tweak didn't seem to help me - just makes load times longer. I can't comment on the drivers as I have not downgraded them to test. Changing my Max Frames to Render Ahead from 3 to 1 had no effect on my framerate. The only thing that helped my frames was overclocking my video card. Upping your cpu's FSB usually has a direct effect on frames but I can't attest to that in GRAW. Actually, I'm getting game crashes that I'm sure are related to my overclocking. SUMMARY: With the framerates I listed above, I consider the game to be borderline playable. I could handle dips to the low 30s but anything lower is pretty unplayable. Never thought my 6800GT would get obsolete so quickly. Am wondering if getting an Athlon 64 would help. chiles4
Sliprock, you seem to have pretty much the same setup and almost the same frame rate as me. You could probably add a few frames by overclocking your cpu - but would it be worth it? Alot of the rigs here and the framerates seem consistent. Doesn't seem that 2GB of ram (over 1GB) is making much of a difference. Maybe a bit of a boost with an Athlon 64 over the XPs - probably not as much as I had hoped. I did gain some frames by lowering alot of the settings and turning some off. It seems that the best way to improve performance is to sell your car and buy huge-###### video card. Not what I was hoping.

Some in-game setting also didn't seem to make much difference -- textures quality at "Low" or "Medium" performed the same, as did effects quality, post effects (except on "High", where it does decrease the FPS) and EAX on/off. Turning off dynamic shadows helped though, probably up to 5 FPS. As I said on another thread, disabling my onboard sound raised it by 10 FPS or more, so not having a dedicated sound card is probably what's bottlenecking it the most.
