Can GRAW be OGR ?

Recommended Posts

Honestly, I am unsure.

I am not sure even if GR was straight converted to this engine if it would still be [GR]. I think [GR] was just one of those special moments in life... Like a The Great One Gretzky, Micheal AIR Jordan, Jack The Bear Nicklaus. Ya sure other people come by that might break there records.. but they are still not that guy. Maybe we have built up GR to be the all powerful. Maybe no one can knock it off it's pedistal?

But I can tell you.. I still jumped in my seat last night playing.. I still kind of peak around corners slowly.. I think this game even with some of it's, so called downfalls (Jaggies, Predicitable tango location, hight graphics card requirments), can still be and will be a great game. The damn AI out lasted me in a stand off... the tango sat longer then I did and then spring and through two shots to my head. Very few games released these days get everything right.. I still remember the same sort of conversations when the [GR] came out. Be honest with yourselves.. it was not the end all be all right away for many, many of you... it grew on you as it did mean.. kind of like that first sip of beer... everyone I ever met had that first beer time face..

Anyway, until the final release comes out, a few weeks pass by I wil hold final judgement.. a demo is a demo... it's not the full game!!! I am not saying it's perfect..

I hope the release has more tango's on a map that are not predictable in location (HX5 was popular because)

I wish in the cross-coms guys mouth only moved when he spoke

But those things will all come.. you will see..

Here's my rig and it plays just fine for me...

AMD Athlon64 S939 3700+ (400) (90nm)

DDR Corsair 2GB (2*1GB) 400fsb TWINX VALUE C3

Asus A8N-SLI NF4 S939 PCIE Motherboard

Western Digital 250GB KS 7200RPM SATA 300 16MB Hard Drive

On Board Audio

XFX Geforce 7900GT PCI-E 256MB (standard)

Two things happend last night...

My wife, sitting on the couch, shouted out loud 'For Gods sake, Breath!!' at me and when she, later on, left for bed she scared the #### out of me by standing next to me and (after lifting my headphone) telling me that she called it a day... nism?¿

OMG, this is GR:AW game is gonna last as long as GR did :clapping: :clapping:

When I first launched into game I was shocked frankly, I thought what the hell is this. GR is not here, this is totally different.

However, I thought Id give it a fair go, and instead of switching it off after my first quick go, I thought Id play it for a couple of hours to give it the chance to prove itself.

I also did a search to find out if there were some optimizations around and utilized them.

Straight away, the lack of AA which was at first a glaring problem for me, faded away. Bare in mind, that I allowed the game to launch at 800x600 first and it was awful...lol.

Once I tweaked it however to 1280 x whateva, it improved dramatically in looks and feel, and then when I upped it again to my monitors capabilities it really started to look fantastic.

I turned down the settings to medium to compare the difference in looks, and didnt notice any difference really in graffix quality.

The crosscom will take some getting used to, if I was to stick with Single Player campaign which I wont, so it doesnt really matter. But, I think its quite effective, while retaining its GR feel.

Weapons are nice to use IMHO, and the physics too are a nice improvement on [GR]. The sound is a little screwy with them at the moment, but Im sure thats a Demo bug.

Thats a quick summary, but is really a lead into this next bit.

We will never get another exact copy of [GR] because of the way graffix and engines are moving and changing. However, to dismiss a game based on your first couple of hours of play, if you hate it, is a mistake I think.

This game has heaps of potential, and still retains a GR feel, its just going to take a week or two of playing it to develop that feel. The stealth and tactical element is as strong as ever I feel, with numerous ways to tackle the map, lots of cover, and speactacular firefights to follow.

At first I thought "nah, this sucks"....2 hours later, Im looking forward to receiving my copy in 3 days time.

btw, my rig now:

AMD 3200XP

ANTEC 480watt TruePower

2 gig DDR 400 (3200) ram

6800gts super 512 mb agp

20" wide LCD BENQ monitor @ 1680x1050

(seems to be running beautifully for me)

Lighty.

[GR]=original gr

As a fan of [GR] I've waited desperately for a game to replace it. I've even reinstalled [GR] and squeezed every last drop of blood from it I could before the graphics limitations made my eyes bleed. (Good for their day, but suffer nowadays). I found BF2 which filled my need for a tactical game that shone under clan warfare. As commander I got a kick out of the quasi-[GR] interface but still found the realism level lacking.

The demo got my blood running again and in so many ways I'm glad its here. The jaggies don't really bother me too much as I know my rig isn't the best out there and probably never will be. I'm squeezing 25-30-odd frames per second out of my machine and thats fine for me... after all its the gameplay not the graphics for me, which isn't to say that the game isn't a graphical treat. Explosions rock my world, gun physics feel right, tactical gameplay seems spot on.

My Rig:

- Antec SLK3700-BQE Case

- 350W SmartPower2.0 ATX12V v2.0 power supply

- AMD Athlon64 939 3000+

- MSI K8TNeo2 939 mobo

- 1gig Hynix DDR400 SDRAM

- Sparkle nVidia GeForce 6600GT AGP8x 128meg

- Odds and Sods HDDs

- 1.5mBit ADSL

- Philips 107S6 17" CRT

Running the game on:

- 1024x768(85Hz)

- Medium Textures

- Medium Effects

- No Dynamic Shadows

- Post Effects = False :grin1:

[GR] was not that special I'm sorry to say. It was nice at the time, but going back and playing it now the faults of it are quite obvious. I'm not sure why everyone is so in love with it and would not want another exactly like it. I think GR:AW is a huge improvement and I am excited that it is here. I wish people would stop complaining about how it's not like the [GR].

the community makes the game IMO (of course the game has to not suck ;))

We will never get an exact sequel of GR, nor would we want one. Doesn't feel the same? It feels more like [GR] than any other FPS I've played.

Also, this game is made for online MP Tvt. If you haven't done this yet, Just play this game and imagine it TvT. Seriously, launch the game, walk around, and imagine TvT deathmatch. It's freakin' perfect. GR:AW is a worthy sequel to Ghost Recon, and as long as we get our modding tools, this game will endure.

I reckon GRAW is great on MP. GR1 works great on MP. Have 20 people playing on 1 good map and you can have a real laugh. like 'de dust' with HX mod :P. I though playing FPS tatical games flanking never works, but it actually does.

Only thing i hate about GRAW is the tatical feel. RSE does a better job with tatical games. There is tatical feel in GRAW, but not as good as GR1 had.

An example of tatical control i want in GRAW

stop and

recon - fire when enemy is close

assault - fire when fired upon

suppress fire - fire when you see the enemy.

and so on for advance & advance at all cost.

If ANYONE can provide me with a link or give me pointers in controlling the rules of engagement and rules of movement? please tellme and enlighting me

Still trying to get use to the full version and enjoy it

PS - Anyone tellme how i tell a soldier to recon an area as they can tellme the strenght of the area better than humans. When your solider actually spots an enemy they have to stop and find cover too

  • 1 month later...

I dont think in its current state graw can be as gr1 was for the last 5 years in terms of having the same type of communities. I think GR1 pleased a much wider fan base from people who just wanted a fun shooter game to people looking for a tactical sim, to current and former soldiers and Marines. Gr1 the way i see it had a fan base that crossed the boundaries between ofp sim fans to more arcadish shooter games. In the end it just depended on how you chose to play it and gr1 was vary open to different types of gameplay depending on the settings mods players etc.

Graw so far doesn't seem to cater to the same fan base as gr1 and seems to be sharply dividing the fan base in a way cutting the community in half and from the number of people in the mp lobby shrinking the number of online play in the community which became the heart of gr1s longevity ( both coop or adversial).
