.45 cal Sushi 0
With all the hubub about millions of Mexicans (illegals) in America at the moment, it strikes me as a bit funny that GR has the ghosts killing Mexicans. I mean really now. Thats so not PC that its got a few of us laughing. Sounds like a good reason to change locations and give a lil jungle in to the maps. A close friend in Texas who is Hispanic told me he was quite offended by the demo. Knowing I like to mod he asked me if I had plans for a 'border' map. I bout fell out my chair laughing. But I think he does have a point. He also pointed out that the in game ver of Mexico city is the cleanest he could ever imagine for the city, and the lack of civilians just is impossible. Having been there a few times I had to agree. There are millions there, but not one in sight. We had civi's in GR1 why not here? I told em it's just a demo, but I had to agree the lack of reality did post some doubts on the research team, not to mention the guy who decided to set this in Mexico. A bad move perhaps. O and just for the record I will not be making a 'border' map. Im sure someone will, just not me.
Rubleman 0
Lol, what do you think that brown/yellow effect in the game is, its the sun shining through the smog!

Bota:16 0
I'm sorry your friend is offended. But maybe you should reiterate that this is a video game. As for it being in mexico, well the middle east locale has been beaten to death by every other game out there. Actually is seems very reasonable that if any country asked for our help in a major hostage situation it would be mexico, plus it is our Commander in Chief that is being held hostage. As for the lack of civilians, well there was a big shootout prior to the ghosts getting there. I doubt the civs are going to hanging out do some tailgating. Anyways if your friend is that easily offended then all I can say is he/she has very little else to worry about in their life (lucky for them) or your just trying to stir up some controversy. Last time I checked video games didn't effect national policy so maybe your friend should step away from the computer for awhile and go for a walk or something. FA sear 0
Lets do a "study" here on the GR series. The original GR MUST have offended the Russians GRIT must have offended the Cubans DS must have offended Ethiopia JS must have offended some country in South America (don't remember which, as it was a PS2 only title) Then there is GR2 and Summit Strike Jeez people get a life! Take offense to something that is worthwhile being offended about.

silent_op 0
The lack of civilians was not a call made by GRIN. It was an all around move made for all of the platforms. Thank UBI for thisc . The lack of civilians is not due to the GR:AW engine not being able to handle it. This was an UBI call made by the actual conceptual creators of GR:AW most likely. I guess they want to be PC and not show any civilian casualties. The TEEN RATING may have something to do with this as well. silent_op
JASGripen 0
I do not see the Mexico setting as any worse than chasing people in the forests near the village Beslan were their school were bombed and children killed. If you don't want a totally fictional setting in Absurdistan then you have to deal with an amount of non-pc-ness. About civilans, maybe they can be modded into the game. But I do understand the issue. 1) Civilians are important in a mega-city setting 2) This is a game about war, it is not a SWAT-game 3) Given 2) you will be killing civilians to reach your goal. 4) You can't have civilians as 3) are not pc in any way. 5) You cant please all 1) or 4) one must give. DayGlow 0
The civies are there, it's why you cannot open any doors, they have them barred from the inside and are hiding
sui317 0
i think they (ubi or the one who decides) do not want to have screenshots of dead civies as marketing, it would bring bad press if in the demo there were civies, and we would have posted stranges poses with civies in them then some PC game hater would use that to say that this game was about killing people and civies, this would in turn hurt sales but would also bring folk here that would not understand GR / GRAW and spoil it for us i like to have civies because it makes for better awareness, then you would have to confirm/identify every encounter before opening fire and it makes for great mod variations for missions SP/COOP maybe it will come in addon or patch, maybe we just have to do without but i would like some civies just to be on my toes a little more *oops this was a bit off topic Edited May 1, 2006 by sui317
cobaka 0
I seem to remember a Stars and Stripes article about North Korea being pretty ticked off at GR2. Plus, they started building this game over a year ago. I doubt anyone had a premonition about illegal alien protests.

calius 0
it strikes me as a bit funny that GR has the ghosts killing Mexicans You dont spend most of your time in GRAW looking for "a mexican" and killing them do you? "killing mexicans" would suggest you just run around killing anyone who is mexican .. not even stating if they are armed or not which is taking it way out of context. Realisticly put its "american military fighting with mexican military". The point would make sense if you had civvies (maybe a reason they are not in me thinks) ... if you could spray civvies etc then maybe they might have a point but only to a point. We had this discussion some while back about GR2 and N.Korea ... people being offended etc. I feel you have to put it into context .. that basicly its a game & only focuses on the military side of things. There are similarities overlapping in story and whats happeneing in U.S granted, but for the point raised here the argument doesnt realy stand up to be honest.
Eyho 0
Having the 'element' civilians in-game keeps me concentrated to stay alert and not being trigger happy... So I dare to say that I really miss them (m/f). Remember how you did feel when you, suprised as you were, shot the fleeing civilians in the Embassy-GR mission?¿ Dunno about the technical (online) difficulties to create them, but I'm sure they will be there in a upcomming mod. P.S. I hope I don't offend anyone, but I 'feel Ghost' and not 'US citizen' when I'm clearing out the Mexican terrace plus surroundings.
