MHJackal 0
Hmmm. I remember that mod. It was fun. Isn't that what its all about in the end. Perhaps for the sake of acceptance they might produce something clean and nice. The Modheads might just surprise you. Its a new game and a new time lets just get on with rippin some tangos till the mod tools are released. I expect my clanmate NGRU Crazy1 and I will mod some interesting coop mods. Tip of the Hat to Raven (A modding Yoda of GR1 for you new guys) Glad your still around. Your insight to the mod tools will surely be appreciated by all. ← Hi Puffy!! Nice to see that you are gonna mod some coop for us..
DonMiguel 11
sure glad there's going to be original thinkers like DA around to decode filesystems and help us stupid people with modding GRAW. I will give this to DA, he successfully stole and distributed content on a huge scale, managed to build an almost cult following, and can still to this day anger modders with the mere mention of his name. He might not have the integrity of a toad....but when two letters can start a world war, you must have done something right.
Waika 0
Good intentions of the Developer aside, and while I trust GRIN has every best intention -- after all what game Developer doesn't love games and an appreciative audience? The bottom line is it's the Publisher that calls the shots, and Ubisoft has repeatedly demonstrated they don't want durable, long shelf-life games, and aren't in the least interested in the approach to revenue generation that durable games require. CryTek was another ambitions, enthusiastic, very talented and in the end honorable Developer that promised an extensive SDK and mod support that apparently met with enormous resistance from Ubisoft... After a long and confusing process of conflicting communication that turned a lot of Fans off (Fans that might of ended up making/finising some really outstanding mods and Total Conversions) CryTek ended up offering Mod support for FarCry on their own site, according to some sources out of their own pocket, for a game engine and resources they no longer owned that were and are now copyright to Ubisoft. Today FarCry has an extensive SDK that includes source, rich LUA script support, and one of the most state-of-the-art consumer sand box level editors you can doink around with -- but it took nearly two years, and everything you make or mod is ultimately owned by Ubisoft... It's a reasonable bet the talent at RSE and GRIN love these games as much as we do, and want to give us everything we want, but, it's fairly obvious Ubisoft is not our friend, is neither interested nor cares about Tactical Realism games as anything other then a means to revenue. The fact that Ubisoft blatantly shirks this audience with anything but ridiculous canned sales-hype and word-bytes speaks volumes; the bizarre tantrums by company officials and that Ubisoft completely ignores proven durable marketing alternatives to the disposable 'media product' approach pretty much seals the deal. As far as what GRAW will offer for Mod support; the show's not over till the fat lady sings, but many of us are very jaded about Ubisoft -- as they repeatedly demonstrate a conspicuous trend and intention. I just hope when there is a Developer that manages to independently publish a game that offers what Ghost Recon Fans have been waiting for, but perhaps lacks some of the gloss, spit and polish that big Publishing spends on on superficial game aesthetics and slick marketing -- that everyone will jump on it like ducks on a bug, and give it the recognition it deserves from your wallets, Fan and Mod support sites... My fingers are still crossed for some capable mod support on GRAW... :'( Edited May 2, 2006 by Waika
Dimz 0
well anyways , back on topic ... graw content is located in a .rra file in the X:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter\Bundles directory folder , and the most official file extension referenceing library (www.filext.com) has no documentation on it ... so it will be initially up to the programmers to create a tool to extract/decompile/recompile the data from that package . all other tweaks can be done through the .xml files in notepad , but very little can be accomplished there . silent_op 0
This time around I'd like to learn how to mod/script CO-OP missions. Did any of you guys notice where the Tactical Map image files are (in the Demo)? One thing that I noticed, we need a serious command grid. In GR1 I rarely issue waypoints. I usually use the comand grid coordinates (like most of us here). I'm set to start designing a command grid. Well, I guess I would need the photoshop plugins from GRIN first. silent_op

Dimz 0
i have corrected info on the bundle package , which of course contains all the data in one neat and un-openable package , how nice ... the package while bing installed displays a .rra extension , until completed , then becomes a .bundle extension . also no info on filext.com on this type of file , other than a completely unrelated Apple iMovie 3 ( now iMovie HD 6 ) format file statement . so the status of a method to open/extract/recompile is still the same , though i assumed the install extension would remain the same . sorry for that . and for anyone wondering , yes i tried notepad and winrar to open both the .rra while being installed and the .bundle once completed . *also noteable , is that in the root install folder ( in which the GRAW.exe resides ) , there is a " context.xml " file , editable with notepad , that can enable xml compiling , scripts , mopps , and a texture_database ... none of which seem to do anything when set to true , except a " textures_db.bin " is now produced , and a log window opens while loading a mission telling you that your game crashed , and the stupid reason why . in addition , in the demo , the " classic crosshair " function was set to false by default in the " context.xml " file , and if enabled did nothing noticeable , is now absent in the retail . so if you of you 1337z 4/-\xx0|20|2z can do it , extracting and compiling this package ( or better yet , compile an entirely new , custom .bundle , which would be useable by the game ) , it would boost the game's value in alot of fan's eyes .
