Hatchetforce
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/703/703671p1.html April 28, 2006 - With Microsoft, the rumors are always true. The next iteration in Bungie Studios' Halo series will appear at E3 2006 in video form at its Tuesday, May 9 news conference, IGN learned today from independent sources who recently spoke with Microsoft executives. The video is allegedly two minutes long, although its contents weren't divulged. We're guessing a wild breathtaking battle on Earth. Knowing Microsoft, the publisher will want to show all real, in-game engine footage to counter Sony's fantastical CG videos from E3 2005. When Microsoft was contacted, the company issued its standard reply, "We don't comment on speculation and rumors." E3 is where console manufacturers, publishers, and developers lay down their best hand for hopes of creating buzz and interest leading into the fall season. And E3 2006 is perhaps one of the most crucial for Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, as each stakes their plot in the next-generation landscape. Diehard Halo fans shouldn't be too surprised. Bungie is notorious for taking its time, and the game is not likely to come out until 2007. Microsoft's most valuable franchise has been out of the limelight since last year's Map Pack, a set of additional multiplayer maps for 2004's Halo 2. Microsoft has edged away from talking about the next Halo all year long, except to acknowledge Founder Bill Gates' cautionary statements to Sony, claiming that when Sony readies PS3, Halo 3 will launch day and date with it. Microsoft since retracted the statement, claiming Halo 3 will be ready when Bungie is finished. Recently, however, the company has started to roll up its proverbial Halo sleeves again, acknowledging Halo 3's existence. Microsoft Game Studios' General Manager Shane Kim, in a conversation with New Zealand Website Stuff.co.nz, said: "You mean the mythical Halo 3? I mean, it's silly to deny its existence when the chairman of MS (Bill Gates) announced it, but I have nothing to announce now, but expect there to be a significant announcement at E3." cdnsniper
I can hardly wait until I can see that video. It'll be great, that's for sure.
FA sear
I thought the first Halo was good. I can't imagine what to expect with 3. I really hope that this series just keeps getting better and better. I was disappointed in the short campaign with Halo2. That was the one thing that disappointed me, otherwise it was clearly better than the first IMO. I really thought Halo2 would have a longer campaign than the first one. I hope that Halo3 has a good long campaign. The other thing that I would like to see is more gameplay like what you see in the Demo footage on the first Halo disc. Halo2 came close, but not quite what was depicted in the demo video. I still like Halo2 better than the first, but that demo video really caught my attention. I hope Halo3 will deliver THAT type of gameplay.

I thought the Halo 2 levels had a nice variety, although I prefer to play as Master Chief the whole game (no spoilers here ... ) and the ending was much too abrupt. cdnsniper
One thing I hope they do is removing the Flood. I've killed enough of them and am sick of it.

Hatchetforce
Most likely we will see it revealed that the Forerunners are actually Human. There is also the issue to look for that the CHief is not the last surviving Spartan. He is the last KNOWN survivor. Anyone that reads the books (Another is being written by Eric Nylund as we speak) know that several Spartans survived underground with Dr Halsey. I expect to see the Arbiter playable again as well. I don't know if we'll see all the Elites ready to welcome humans or not. Remember, as Cortana said, the Covenant came to Earth and were surprised to find humans. They were looking for the Forerunner homeworld...
Sup
They were looking for the Forerunner homeworld... ← Yeah, which (to my knowledge) was only firmly indicated in Ilovebees' text.

Remember, as Cortana said, the Covenant came to Earth and were surprised to find humans. They were looking for the Forerunner homeworld... ← Cool, thanks for the background info from the novels. I hardly have time to play the games let alone read the stories ... One thing I think is cool is that Bungie has a big say about what goes into the novels, as well as the upcoming movie, so you know it's not just one author's imagination and ideas that will be changed by the next book ... The Arbiter thing was a bit like MGS2's Raiden ... Bungie did a good job making us more sympathetic to the Elites, and it was way-cool to play as one in MP although they are equivalent to the Spartans. One other slight disappointment with Halo 2 was that I was expecting more scenarios on Earth, but I guess you could only do so much. Looks like thing's are headed back to Earth for Halo 3 anyway. Looks like thing's are headed back to Earth for Halo 3 anyway. ← A lot of that is due to Halo2's botched development. They restarted the project so many times they had to split their plot in half and give the clifhanger ending. It looks like the plot's set to really pick up with the fighting back on eartch that was initially to be the later parts of Halo2.
FA sear
It looks like the plot's set to really pick up with the fighting back on eartch that was initially to be the later parts of Halo2. ← Sounds good to me. One of my favorite levels was old city. I also liked the metropolis, but I didn't like chasing the scarab. I was really hoping to do some fighting on foot like in the demo video. I really like that footage. The biggest disappointment to me about Halo2 was not having the fighting on foot in the metropolis. Anyway, I'm sure the next one in the series will be every bit the improvement that Halo2 was over the first. Well, to be honest, half of Halo 1's campaign was playing through the earlier levels backwards. That was only Two Betrayals which back tracked through the Assult on The Control Towers map, then the second to the last level which used the same section of the Truth and Reconciliation theat the third mission used. That is only two maps that repeat, the other six are unique unto themselves.

I just remember that at the end I was going - this is deja vu all over again but this time with the Flood Definitely 8/10 levels were unique. This is all good considering Bungie had the game done and polished in time for the original Xbox launch. Don't get me wrong - I love Halo, and I own and played Halo on both Xbox 1 and PC, and finished the PC version. I bought Halo 2 when it came out and finished it in 3 days, and played MP Halo 2 at LAN parties. Can't wait for Halo 3!
FA sear
I just hope there is more fighting in an urban setting. Old City is one of my favorite levels in the entire series. Metropolis WOULD have been my favorite if it were more like the demo video. It would also be nice if some minimal squad controls would be added in with the used of the currently idle Dpad. Regardless, I'm sure the next iteration will be incredible.
