Help determining targets

I've been playing GR for a couple weeks now and I finally feel like I'm starting to get the hang of it (both SP and MP). However, I still feel like I'm sorely lacking in one area of MP play and that is determining if my target is friend or foe. Now, I know that if my reticule turns blue, its a teammate. The problem is, if they're far away, you don't always get the sight on them, even when you think you do. Thus far, I have accidently killed a teammate twice. Both times were at far distances and both times it was a rather ironic and unfortunate situation.

The first one was one of my very first online games. ONE guy simply that knew I was new said, "please don't TK". And, of course, he was the guy I accidently TK'd. :( The second incident was, IMO, even more of a bad thing. :) I was basically trying out for a clan, seeing how I worked with the team. And, my first kill, on the first map, I accidently shot the clan leader who I had been talking to about joining. :(:blink::wall:

What I find the real effect of the problem to be is that I hesitate before shooting, which ultimately leads to my death. Played a bit last night and I know at least 3 of my deaths were because I was trying to make doublely sure that the guy I had my sights on was really an enemy.

So, my long winded question is, how do you determine friend or foe quickly? The uniforms are ridiculously similar and the sighting is not very reliable. What I've started doing is relying on my command map. I'll usually have it up constantly and always check to see if there are any friendlies in front of me and if there aren't, any movement I see gets shot. The down side of that is that I usually end up not paying close enough attention to the game and end up dying anyway. Any other suggestions or ideas?

hehehe,

It does take some getting used too, as TAW has advised situational awareness is a great help but even that can become unreliable at times in frantic moments of battle. Regular checks help but also try zooming ya sights more on a distant target too :)!

Generally if the reticule doesn't turn blue because of the distance you are from a target or freindly and you have no zoom at all, as long as you aren't stood bolt upright in the open or anything then it can often give you just enough time to zoom in a little more before firing or determining if the target you are looking at is freind or foe that way too :)!

Takes some getting used to but after a while you get more and more used to it lol :)!

usually on any multiplayer team theres one guy who carries most of the weight. just so long as u dont shoot him, its ok (i.e. dont shoot me).

ok, other than that, use zoom a whole lot... zoom out and back in every 10 sec or so to see the perfiary. and make the map key middle mouse click so you dont have to move your hands while looking at the map - look at the map every 5 sec or so... just pop it open to make sure u rnt looking at any of ur own guys... that way if u c someone, shoot em without thought.

i have pretty much had it with tking, people tk me and say "sorry my fault", now i get in the habit of, if you tk me, i take your entire life on that game until you have 0 lives, i will wait for you.

i do carry around alot of weight on my team depending on the map, embassy and other urbans (and rarely the vegetated map). i can take 18 kills and leave everyone else with 5 or 6 (and thats on my clan), and maps like island in IT i can get like 1 to 5 (but not always, only half and half am i bad on a vegetated map)

dudzcom you was saying you were playing for a year, have you gone any name changes since then, ive been playing since christmas 2k1

Must admitt I have the Thumb button on this Logitech Mouse mapped to the Command Map as well as the L-Shift! With it being right under ma thumb I certainly check the map a lot more with enemy close by than I did when having to reach for it a bit more with the keys hehehe :)!

hey gimp. nope no name changes, and i havnt been playing multiplayer for the last 4 months (decided to give it a rest). The odds are that we ran into eachother a few times. I used to host a server called AKRON T3 it was up quite a bit. Of course, most people play during a certain time of the day, and i know that people that play during (my hours) 2am to 2pm i will probably never see. That may be your case.

anyhoo, to the guy who started this thread, gl learning to use the command map. It is an invaluable asset, and i wasnt kidding with the 'every 5 sec' thing.
