Stinger 0
I have WS FTP Pro version 7.5. And you have to connect to another computer or site like ftp.ipswitch.com. And that works there are files there. But if just me and my buddy want to connect to eachother how do we do that? I mean what address do we type in? I tried ftp.(then insterted my ip here) but it wouldn't work and I doubt it would for him either then. Do you have to have a site or somethin? Thanks in advance! GP_Joltin_Joe 0
You have to be running an FTP server on your computers. Windows 2000 and Windows XP come with one, you just have to check the box in Add/Remove Programs->Windows Components. Then, you have to use Internet Services Manager in Administrative Tools to setup which directories to use with FTP. Make sure you setup a user on your computer that has rights to use your FTP directories. Then, just type the IP address of the other computer in WS FTP. You don't need ftp.anything, just the IP address. Don't forget to use the username and password of the user account you just setup. Lastly, if you have Windows XP Firewall enabled (or any other firewall), make sure TCP and UDP Port 21 is allowed inbound.
Stinger 0
Okay I dont think this is gonna happen. 1, I'm not sure if any firewalls are blocking certain ports cause some of them dont ask. I could proly find out but I have diff idea. It doesnt specifically label something in Add windows compnennts called FTP something. But lot sof network stuff. And it wants me to insert Disk with Service Pack 3 and well may or may not be a prob I dunno. I tried just going and having my computer connect to itself on FTP since friend is in bed. So with the million complcations I am being overwhelmed. Is there a better way to have people connect to your computer without paying money (besides software) and dload prgrms?
