This isn't for use as texture but still a nice picture of the muzzle flame from the FN MAG 58 (desginated Ksp 58 by Swedish forces) just for fun. It's a picture from an exercise when simfire equipment is used and it's not live rounds fired, but they have the same load round and give the same amount of muzzle flame.

Maybe this should go into another forum..but..is FN MAG still in use by US Army? Just afew days ago I saw it twice on the news...once when US Troops was fighting near Umm Basr, and once more mounted on a chopper as a door-gunner's weapon...I thought FN MAG was replaced with FN MINIMI (M249)... <_<

You could never replace the FN MAG with the FN Minimi as they serve different functions. The Minimi is a squad support weapon while the MAG is a heavy support weapon that is mostly used in units that don't move as fast. I don't know about the US Army, but I know they replaced most M60 with MAG as they are more reliable.

Hopefully someone who has better insight in the US armed forces can give you a clear answer to you question. I just give you the international weapon tech view of it. ;)

I have an excellent large scale photo of the C6 (FN MAG) from my training. If you have AIM or MSN, I can send it to you.

I am not in the US Military, but Canada uses the Minimi (C9) and the MAG (C6). They do have different roles as Wolfsong stated; the C9 is a Light Machine Gun and is a section (squad in US) level weapon - there are 2 per section (usually standard is 8 men); the C6 is a Platoon level support weapon operated by either 2-3 soldiers. During section attacks, the C6 is usually placed by the Platoon WO or Platoon Cmdr to provide covering fire for the assaulting sections while the C9s are with the sections as they assault.
